no financial commitment by the AA players and a few key players from last year would not sign up even though the were given the option. I think the program is doomed

Here is the plan. Get $300 check from the 11-13 that have signed. Work on 2 more and have them sign and pay $300. Start fund raising. If 2 come back sign them as well. 17 players is perfect for this age.

Have AE tryouts. Tell kids who are good enough to AP for AA.

Done. Enjoy the season

MR here. We got the coach now so all we have to do is pick the AE team. Hoping to get ice next week. Once the team is picked we will have a game between LMs squad and CMs squad. The winner will play in the AE loop and the loser will play in the select loop.

I hope to see a good turnout and all country club members are encouraged to come out.

Don't worry, MR has it under total control and is watching the situation closely. If I was a 97AA parent I would be a little concerned that no commitments are being made until August. By the way, I was only kidding about MR. From what I hear he is doing sh*t.

Re: 95/96 Milton midget program

Realistically they've got 6 decent forwards and 3 decent defencemen (and some of them didn't play any of those spring tournament games). The other "signed" skaters will probably have a tough time at this level. There's still a few quality players possibly available come August to help fill out the roster (it depends on their AAA options).

I asked MR about the $60 and he said enough kids paid to cover the cost of the ice so he is not to worried about it. That is fair to the kids who paid $60 and got 2 skates. Imagine if they knew kids were signed who did not pay to tryout. Will everyone have to pay for the European extravaganza or will just a few have to pay. The honour system only works with people who have pride.

I have a dream

July 8 2012, 3:20 PM

I am hearing good things about the AE team this season. The former country club members are sitting on tons of cash that they saved on rep fees last year and want to plan a big European trip for the boys. When General McArthur was asked about this rumour he was quoted saying, “I am not much of a bull shitter but if that is what I need to do to coach rep hockey well then this is what I am planning”.

Our trip will begin in Czechoslovakia where we will be practicing with Jaromir Jagr. Jagr will show them the benefits of stickhandling through pylons. The boys will then sit down with Jagr and enjoy Jagr’s favourite meal, Jelita which is blood sausage, served fried.

We will then scoot over to East Germany where the boys will take on the Midget AE GMHA champions.

After the game, the team will take a bus and explore castles, museums & all the historic highlights in Berlin and will settle in for a good sleep in a 9 star hotel.

When General McArthur was asked how much this trip would cost, he laughed hysterically and said, “$699 per player, not a penny more, but we will have to do 35 meat drives and a Halloween party.

The rest of the trip will involve 9 games in 6 countries over 12 days. MR is concerned that kids may quit the AA team when they hear about this trip, but said, “ it is great that so many kids get to go on a dream vacation. Milton Minor hockey has come so far since I took over.”

Looks like a good season in the making.

Re: 95/96 Milton midget program

July 9 2012, 2:25 PM

The LM camp has come out with a statement stating that they may be able to add another game to the European trip without increasing costs to families. The Dollar has been appreciating against the Euro which will allow Canadians to buy more with their dollars. This news is welcomed as the team struggles to sell meat in a tough economy and only has 8 kids committed to the team. LM says this should not be an issue as many kids who get cut from junior are looking to play for a 5 and 23 AA club.

LM why didn't you warn us taht you were going to pick a "cast of select players" as your team? If the answer is because that is all that came out - let's ask ourselves why that might be. Some of us have been in Milton for awhile and did our homework about this coach. Can you say the same MR?

You can't do anything about the past but I just hope there is a plan to pick up the pieces when this goes down in September. Wait until LM makes his kid captain and has him on the ice for 80% of the game. Then kids will walk. At this age they start to see the shit their parents have seen all along.

The best we can hope for is that LM can buy his way on to another team in the GTHL.

7:00 I am not cutting up the select team. There are a few good kids playing there but none of them are on the "select group of kids" that LM has picked for his team. They knew better than to play for this clown and besides they want to skate through everyone and be superstars - select is where they can make that happen!

Just for the nay-sayers/trouble-makers:
1) The top 6 forwards and the top 3 defencemen have indicated that they are not jumping ship (it's called "class" and honouring your word).
2) LM has set up weekly Crossfit sessions throughout the summer for those boys able to attend.
3) LM has also set up a pre-season tournament in September.
With all that it doesn't look like he or his son is going anywhere either.

It's about the Coach and his kid, not the kids! If you are posting web updates like the one today and the season isn't underway.....not a good sign! This is just the tip of the iceberg! Waiting for kids from Jr camps? What Miltonians are coming back from Jr to play for Milton? Maybe the G kid from AAA, that's it. Wake up people.

One thing for sure - MR hit the nail on the head with respect to the pettiness of some parents who choose to cause trouble with malicious gossip and who also brainwash their kids against any coach they don't like. The true Rep boys just want to play at the highest level possible (and if it's with some of their buddies so much the better). Unfortunately, these parents are unlikely to admit their errant ways, but I imagine their boys will one day realize what they were deprived of. I say "shame on you".

Listen, there are no free riders - each player will have to come up with a specific $ amount to run the team. What's the calculation??? If you live in Milton in a Mattamy or anywhere for that matter, spending 2K on hockey should not be an issue. agree with 10:26.

MMHA should give the same 5 or 6 AA kids a financial break that keep these teams afloat.
core group keeps playing regardless of other "superstars" coming...haha.
ps: a couple still arent on team but should be....they dont miss practices
and are committed, not like other fly-by nighters.

without their commitment every year, you would not have anyone playing, except houseleague, guaranteed.

The last few entries here make sense. Not saying its ok but if the coach wants kids or more specific, certain kids, someone else will have to cover it within the team budget.

4:35 - you weren't even in to begin with so you're talking BS. Nothing's changed since the previous month - the top players are still committed and LM still has 5 extras to sign to get the 18 player roster; if anyone's jumping ship they're not "top-half" guys.

Heard the Coaches kid was trying out for the Ottawa 67's Midget AAA team, does he have a place there?

Europe trip

August 6 2012, 5:48 PM

My name is Bob Loblaw and my son plays for Sudbury Midget AA. We are planning a trip to Europe and are having a hard time with the cost. A good friend of mine from Milton told me about the Milton Midget AA and its Europe trip. I was hoping to get some advice on how your team is able to offer such an amazing trip for $1,200? Did you do a lot of fund raising? Are all your parents a part of a country club? Do you have extra players on your roster?

Any advice you can give me is greatly appreciated. We have raised $4000 this summer but the best we can offer is $2,500 a player.

Thank you

Yes this is in regards to your team going on the trip to Europe. Are you guys OMHA champions, or an elite team? I coach in the G and we have just enough money to go to Ottawa this year, with all the guys working, or school.
I was looking at the standings for you at Hockey rankings and your team is ranked like 84th..PS: Save the money. Gotta be a self-serving parent in there somewhere. Insane. Think about it.

Bob, As a team we have carefully consulted with each other and have determined that the best way to keep the cost of the European trip down is to keep our numbers down. To date we have rostered 10 players and are trying to get that number down a bit before September. Another thing we have done to save money is to not pay our fees to MMHA. We have cancelled our bus for the OMHA finals and some of our more prominant members are doing odd jobs at the coach's house to make some extra money.

An unexpected cost for this trip has been the travel expenses for a MMHA Executive. Fortunately for us, the 97AA team have graciously offerred to send him on a one way ticket to Hellstinki

Hope this helps. See you in Sweden!

Bob. The key is to put a coach in place who is so full of shit that everyone thinks it's a big joke and goes along with it. By doing this some people who are not knowledgeable will actually start to believe it.

Bob the key is Karma, the Country Club twosome who had last years Coach kicked out of the running this year, will now be stars of an even bigger Carnival this year! What's even better, this years coach thinks the Clubbers kids are bottom 3 forwards on this team. No A for one of their kids, will result in the first email thesis to the coach! No tight t-shirts or video will be available rink side for many of the games!

Guys stop this stuff, it's hurtful to me and I don't wanna tell the Coach what's on here. His system will have the team play superior hockey! As far the 1200.00 Euro trip, he says we are taking a bus there, that's why the price is so good. Keep the peace! BF/PRep
