SCTA 97 AAA

Seems that many teams have gotten way stronger for MM.
A few sadly won't do well at all.
Could be an exciting season for the SCTA - especially if Buffalo ices a team.

The Chances of “Making It” in Pro Hockey

http://www.omha.net/flash.asp?page_id=242

The “1975” group of players was considered by many NHL Scouts as the strongest group of players the province has ever produced.

Out of those 232 players drafted to the OHL, only 105 ever played one game in the OHL.
Out of those 105 players, only 90 finished their full 3 or 4 years of eligibility in the OHL.
Of those 30,000 players, only 42 played NCAA Division I hockey! Remember too that U.S.scholarships are not the large educational packages that have been offered by NCAA schools in the past (see more information below). The following “1975” players had either full or partial NCAA scholarships.
There were 56 players from the “1975” age group that were either drafted or signed by a National Hockey League team (by far the most of any birth year Ontariohas experienced!). Fourty-eight (48) of those 56 players were drafted by NHL teams!
Of the 48 drafted players only 39 signed contracts with NHL teams. Eight players signed as free agents after going un-drafted as NCAA or major junior players.
Of the 48 signed players, only 32 have seen action to date in an NHL game.
Of the 32 players with NHL experience, only 15 have played more than one (1) full NHL season!
Of these 32 players, only 21 were active in the NHL as of April 1, 2002.
Of those 32 who have played an NHL game to date, only 18-20 will earn a second contract with an NHL team. About half of those players earning second contracts will see them finish that second contract with an NHL team. The remainder of the 56 players will toil in the minor pros in the IHL, AHL, ECHL or Europe.
Of the 32 players who have seen action in an NHL game, only six (6) have qualified for the NHL’s Player Pension (minimum 400 games in the NHL!).

Reality check time folks, enjoy the game but get an education.

Typical Canadians. We like you and all, but show us the respect we deserve. Maybe you haven't checked lately but on the international level we are more than holding our own. Sooner or later it will be our game. So stop chirping and be ready for some really good hockey from us this year.

Re: SCTA 97 AAA

I think that's a fair statement.

I'm a big fan of the USA Hockey Development program. They've invested a lot of money in the last two decades into player and coach development and it's showing. In 2010, there were 11 Americans drafted in the first round.

I'm as patriotic as the next Canadian, but it's foolish to think we're the only ones who can play the game. No one's saying we're not the deepest talent pool of anywhere in the world, but other places can produce talent too.

Hear they are using Fort Erie, but no confirmation.
Hear they don't have any US residency rules so they can take anyone from anywhere in the US, hear they are loading up and my guess is they are easily going to challenge for first ... if what I'm hearing is true.

The can come in first, win the SCTA's and they still can't advance to the OMHA's. OMHA won't let a US team play. So they can load up all they want for nothing.

STA, They were already solid, added a couple of solid core pieces and the best pure scorer in 97 age group anywhere in the proving, less CMD who is now in the O. That's what makes them so much better this year. Along with maybe the best coaching in the loop and well, figure it out.

"Hey but one of the dads owns Georgtown OJHL now so they will all find spots in another year or two."

Yep, this seems to be the way to ensure your kids get to play for a Jr. A team. Older son is already been put on the team for next year and the younger one will definitely be there after MM. And then there will be the friends. But the dummy coach let the kid go who's dad owns part of the Montreal Canadiens and the Hamilton Bulldogs. Don't the Eagles know that the kid will be drafted just on the fact of who his dad knows. This kid has his whole way paved out for the next 10 years.

MA gone to Halton is the best thing that could have happened to the kid. The kid has good talent and can finally use it on a good team where other players will make him play harder and push more. Bad move by GH

Re: SCTA 97 AAA

July 4 2012, 10:27 AM

Great move by GH. The family is not committed to hockey. They take a few trips a year and the kid misses tournaments and important games. For a guy who owns an NHL and AHL team you'd think he would understand committment. But he doesn't have to to. His kid will get drafted regardless of not being a good skater or player. He's tall and wobbly, thinks he's a tough guy and really not a very good player. But his daddy's name will get him drafted.

CP receives his release from the Eagles this weekend. Burlington continues to go on the decline. GH what have you done to this team? Way too many cuts and filling them in with a couple AAA imports (mid-pack players) and AA (hometown players). You released or lost from last year's team: KC, MA, DV, AP, CP. With all of that you have won "last place status" IN THE scta. You might as well let ZA and AC go now too and let them have a chance to get drafted with a reasonable team.

Things are real quiet about Brampton. What's going on there? have they played yet? Are they still capable of holding on to the second spot?

7 new players...seems the 45's have tried to retool. And they've stayed off the radar .

Dont worry, the ohf has been advised and the investigation is under way

The things I noticed on their new roster was a 98 goalie and NO CB from the Oakville AA team. Finally, LC from any team that what have him.

Changes are needed when you want to improve. This team has improved over the last few years. Did you get rid of the big mouth mom in the fur jacket? Screaming like a fool in the SCTA's in Guelph sure was impressive.

Halton has two holdouts who will lose their appeal from Hockey Canada and will be playing in the Titan Tournament. AR and MM will be seen at this tournament wearing the double blue. Not sure about injuries on this team, but not sure about the picks made either.

having watched brampton and oakville in action, it looks like brampton is in really good shape with huge gains during the offseason, oakville doesnt live up to the chatter, especially after losing to buffalo, that means buffalo is going to make some noise, what else are people seeing? Is welland as strong as suggested, halton, will they compete for top spot or does that depend on who gets signed?

So STA beats BE 7-3, 4 goal difference. STA calls this an ass kicking. They lose 4-0 to Marlies and STA says it was closer then the score indicates?

Biggest concern STA should have is giving up 3 goals to BE, what gives?

when this team STA plays three periods of hockey its doubtfull which team will be able to compete with them. they mailed the game in against the BE and still won 7 3 they stay out of the box and play the way they can and with the coaching they got believe me this team has the potiential to be untouchable from the goalie through the defence and scoring pop up front and a physical game if need be ALL teams should be scared of this team watch and see its a long season everyone have fun

Interesting about B45s goalie. If that is the case only one goalie will dress. AA goalie was sat for three weeks in a row and chose never to play for PV. All that stuff comes back to bite you right in the a$$.

Brampton goalie is solid. No arguing that, but now that he may be out for an extended period of time, and with the underager as the only option, the coaches decision to commit 90% of the games to one goalie looks a little bit short sighted, doesn't it.

Re: SCTA 97 AAA

Why is it that when anyone says anything about the Brampton goalie, people start going crazy, are his parents and family that uptight they have to go way overboard. Every comment or opinion, and people can state those freely without slamming are treated as being made by a "stalker". Family needs to grow up, if this young man does indeed go on the comments good and bad will only become more frequent. Time to grow up goalie family.
