I don't know why but their were many decent AA and A kids from various teams out at the SSYB skates, could be good recruiting. They will be closer to NT then the TC.

Re: 96AA east

July 10 2012, 9:00 AM

This is cut and pasted directly off the GTHL website.
With the split in the Midget "AA" and "A" age groups to offer a Midget Jr. Division you will now see that two age groups will play an Interlocking type of schedule.  Those two divisions are Midget "A" and Midget "AA" Jr..  Those divisions will still compete in a traditional East and West format but will also play some of their games against the other division.  The Interlock schedule was chosen as a way to ensure that small divisions would be able to see a wider field of opponents.  Currently the Midget "A" East has 6 teams while the Midget "A" West has 7 teams.  In the Midget "AA" Jr. the East has 7 teams and the West has 11 teams.

NT will be well coached this year ? Hey coach, don't post how great you are on here, not all people are stupid and believe everyone thinks you are the greatest coach ever. I will say hopefully you don't behave on the bench like the previous coaches did !

Didn't LF get their asses kicked in one of the summer tournaments they were in ?

Re: 96AA east

August 21 2012, 1:39 PM

I am not the coach. I am just assuming any coach who is not the same as the last group of idiots will be a better coach. NT won because they had the best talent upfront with a couple of kids scoring a lot. I don't think they had the best coaches. Those guys behaved worse than the players against us. Not once but several times. Not sure who the new coach is over there but I was told he is older and experienced.

Re: 96AA east

August 21 2012, 1:59 PM

NT lost a top F and picked up 2 top F's. New coach too. LF lost a few and picked up players who might be better team players. Also a new coach. With an an extra scorer and better goaltending, TC would have been fighting for 1st last year. Don't know if they solved those problems. SYB showed promise last year. Hopefully they will make it a competitive top 4. Knights are always tough. Aces - who knows? Islanders might have trouble icing a team. East and West will be pretty even this year.

LF - There are no West players on the team, aside from the boy from MHL (who played in the west before that)
They have not lost 2 players recently.
The lost in the finals of a Canlan spring tourn. to NT - both teams carrying AAA players not on their current rosters.

I agree that it won't be LF. We are not there yet but maybe by the end of the year we will be there but not first place. And if it is not LF then it will have to be NT. Don't know enough about the other teams yet to think they could challenge NT but maybe TC and SYB had a good recruiting year. Let's hope. This league has been watered down too much over the last few years.

In fact my kid is on NT and has been for 4 years. You definitely haven't seen LP since last season or you wouldn't be commenting the way you are. Midget Jr is a tough year for many teams as many boys go AAA or drop out of hockey all together, thus leaving some once top teams needing for players. LF is one of those teams.

I'm the NT parent, and I'm not bashing LF. I just commented that they will not be as strong as some people (you) think. LF is not weaker this year. Yes, they lost some good talent, especially on offence, from last year's team (none to AAA). But they picked up many good players from TRT and a AAA forward.
As for defence, they had the lowest GAA in the East last year. With the same goalies this year, you cannot say that one of them is not AA calibre. Their D will be at least as good as last year.

Being a "top" player as you put it in AA is one thing. Being a productive player in AAA is a completely different thing. Game is faster, less time to think, and unless you are CMD or JHS, the days of going end to end are over. The SYB player who went to MM last year is perfect proof of this. Top in AA means shit in AAA espcially in minor midget.

All this talk about two kids who didn't have the committment level or desire to work all summer long to stay in AAA. Maybe that's what the problem was with the Markham Majors this past year. Too many kids without the desire to bring their game to the next level. Oh well. Enjoy AA where its pace is more to your liking.

They SYB players who went to MM got a much higher bill and coaching far worse than in AA. And also some friends until you turn your back.

Re: 96AA east

September 7 2012, 3:06 PM

Everyone thinks they can play AAA, the OHL then NHL and some kids really give it a shot. Some excel and others do not. It's a competitive sport and some kids are prepared to invest the time and effort to try and get there. Good for them. But not every kid dreams of playing in the NHL after awhile. Now that they are 16 years old, they have a fairly good idea if their hockey career is going anywhere or not. If you're clinging to the assumption that these kids should have stayed in the gym and worked out all summer long just to play AAA, I think you are a bit obsessed and really mistaken. Some kids and parents really don't care after awhile. When my kid was 8 years old I cannot tell you the number of parents who were convinced their kid was going to the show or getting a scholarship to a US school from hockey. At 16 years old you pretty much stop hearing about it except for a very select few. For me, it is good to know that my kid wants to go to the rink and play with friends on his team who he really likes and that he welcomes a new kid from the Majors or Ted Reeve or Vaughan as much as he does his old teammates. Not many of us expect one kid to dominate or really care. We are just happy that our children are enjoying the sport. It's called growing up. You will probably call it giving up.

One of my kids has played AAA for seven years and the other has always played AA. The kids are different with different interests. The compete level at AAA can get out of hand at times and the money is nuts and the time commitment is off the charts. AA is competitive too but it's at a very different level. I enjoy both games, but never let anyone tell you the nutty parents are all in AAA. There are some real crazy-ass parents in AA too.

Typical comments from parents who's kids just don't have it. If that was the case why did you bring your kid to triple A to start with anyway? This is bullshit. Both parents thought their boy was a star who would go places. The SYB boy and the one who went to LF. Now they don't have it any longer so they make up social babble bullshit. By the way the other SYB boy who went to the Majors was drafted and will be playing Jr A this year. Different commitment I would say

Re: 96AA east

PW who took over the Majors after JC was let go is a player killer. The guy has the personality of a stop sign. Good coaches have to be tough but also be able to relate to the players. They have to enjoy coming to the rink and working for their coach. PW has always been a player killer and still MM let him now coach another group of players he will berate with his 60's way of doing things. As for the boy from the SYB who played there last year who got drafted and is playing Jr. A this year PW desires no credit. Yet the MM will get a development fee when there was no development of this player by him. As for the other SYB player who is now back in AA in his Bantam year it could be said he was the top player in AA in the GTHL easy. PW took him off a good line when he arrived and stuck him with players with no hockey IQ. It is well know by the parents of this team what happen to this player. I was there and saw it. If I could give a piece of advise to parent stay away from MM. They could not give a rats ass about their players only $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ they bring in. Joke organization which should have their AAA charter taken away based on the record of their teams.

Couldn't agree anymore. RJ BS and PW not only destroyed that kid but all the kids on that team. Previous seasons top goal and point getter DC was reduced to a bit player as PW couldn't see his potential. Players placed in positions they could only fail with. And throughout all of it PW kept playing the same line over and over even though team couldn't win or score. PP and all important minutes played by 3 kids who couldn't score or lead the team. PW. You're an idiot

To many kids on this damn link who don't know what the hell they are talking about. SYB beat the colts sunday morning in the semi's of the Aces tournament. They kicked the snot out of them 4 - 0. It wasn't a nothing game. SYB then played Duffield in the finals!! Not sure who won and nobody really cares. There were 4 teams at this brutal tourney. None of them were in shape and the hockey was terrible. That's why they call it a pre-season tourney.

Re: 96AA east

Wrong. it was a 4 game round robin with reseeding after the first three games. Colts were already in the final and because SYB did not win any of their previous 3 round robin games they had no chance of advancing. Colts were playing a nothing game, and played like it losing 4-0. When it counted Colts beat SYB 4-1 and SYB maybe had 5 shots on the Colts goal all game.
Get your fact straight.

Nt will be OK with their new players but they didn't cut anybody and that might hurt them. They could have upgraded in a few spots but instead have kept the entire team I was told. For some reason, they didn't have a full team at Aces tourney. Only 11 or 12 skaters for the semi-final game and they only dressed one goalie for some games. Hard to judge on that basis.

They did well last year but anyone who watched them could see there are at least three or four players that are way below the standard of the rest of the team. Could have upgraded I think but chose not to. Tough call. Might work out for them.

Looks like the East are not going to win too many games in the interlock. Flames flame out in MEB, Colts can't run with the big boys in the MEB, NT barely beats a mid to lower level west team. Going to be a long season for the East teams. Luckily they have themselves to play against to rack up some easy points.

LF did not flame out in MEB. They lost the tie-breaker to the Jets through a coin toss and the Jets lost the final game in OT.

They beat an A team who played there #2 goalie and beat the under manned ranger team (who is winless in 2 tournaments). Lost to the 7th place west team. Not impressive especially after playing in the Richmond hill tournament the week before.

Re: 96AA east

September 17 2012, 4:56 PM

LF beat the A team 8-1. The same A team that lost to the Braves 2-1 and to the Jets 3-0. Could have been 12-1 but the goalie made many great saves, only let in one softie.

Yes, they played poorly against the Vaughan Panthers, can't have a bad game in a tournament. Still, they were tied in GF/GA ratio with the Jets and lost the next tie-breaker, the coin toss.

Funny how some are quick to point out that last year's 2nd place east team lost to last year's 7th place west team, but no mention of last year's 4th place west team losing all their games, and last year's 11th place west team only losing in the finals in OT. Last year is over, it has very little to do with this year.

Don't be so quick to judge. Flames picked up a bunch of kids from across the East and improved a whole lot. Give them a few games and they will start to gel and likely finish first in the East and win it all in the spring. They should be that good. And Nt beat the Aves 4-2 but it was only close on the scoreboard. Aves only had the puck on the odd powerplay and couldn't even get out of their own end in the last five minutes. Couldn't even get a chance to pull the goalie for an extra attacker. It was 4-2 but the teams were not evenly matched.

When are the refs going to catch on to #19 AL of the NT team? This guy is a diver and last night in our game was personally responsible for drawing 6 or more penalties. He parks in the goal crease and then when pushed away dives like an Olympic Swimmer drawing a penalty every time. Then every so often he does that little head shake and it turns into a 4 min checking to the head penalty. Come on bud your turning 16 now, time to play hockey and stop the bullshit. You are a good player and it make you look stupid.

Re: 96AA east

19 OF NT is a disgrace to the game, constantly whining about hits and refs get sucked in. If a team has a good PK it is worth hammering the kid hard he will disappear like a fart in the wind. His mom and dad will be whining like cats.

#19's father runs up and down the boards at rink level yelling and banging on the glass encouraging the ref to make the calls against his son and the ref gets sucked in almost all the time.

Yeah and the coffee tastes bad at the rink. And you don't like paying $6 to the GTHL. And you miss your Mommy. And shouldn't every day be a holiday?

Is this all you guys got? Some kid gets your undies in a twist and it's the worst thing to happen to you since you lost your hair? I just checked the score. You lost 7-2. Think you have other problems than some kid on the other team.

Re: 96AA east

September 25 2012, 8:44 AM

You're missing the point. #19 is constantly crying wolf and the refs are buying it. This has nothing to do with one team losing a game. You would think a team that is able to dominate most games wouldn't put up with a player feigning injuries to try and get other players suspended. The fact that his parents watch this and continue to let it happen amazes me. If that was my son pulling that stunt game after game year after year I wouldn't be able to show my face in the rink. But given what a handful of the NT kids have been doing with their big mouths and unnecessary celebrating nothing surprises me anymore (except that the other families continue to support them by staying with the team)...I'll never be able to understand that.

Re: 96AA east

agree...sad to watch and ya, would never let my kid behave like that. Diving is always embarrassing, and NT certainly doesn't need the extra power plays to win most nights. A few games where the refs don't call the penalty and maybe it would stop.

Re: 96AA east

September 25 2012, 11:51 PM

Actually, compared to some other teams/players, I think NT's pretty well behaved. Especially MI, pot calling kettle there. Cocky I don't mind, if you can back it up. Chirpy, well you guys need to get out more. The only thing that gets me riled are teams/players that are dirty and play the game intending to injure. Fortunately, that is almost non-existent in this loop. The NHL is littered with players who are cocky, dirty and feign injuries to draw penalties. If you think these traits are frowned upon think again. People pay big money to see these guys in action, so don't ask how people can tolerate it.

Re: 96AA east

1:45 YOU think the other parents at NT should leave the team because YOU don't like the way a kid plays? Or, YOU don't like the way his parents act (which YOU absolutely have no clue about anyway because his parents are really great people? Or YOU think the parents should speak up because YOU find the behaviour so reprehensible?

YOU don't get this NT team. The kids love playing together and the parents are happy the kids enjoy hockey. None of these kids are going to the show. They enjoy the game and they play it well. They even won the East which was completely unexpected last year. The new coach will address the unfortunate issues of the previous coach. It will take a few weeks to work its way through the system. We even have some new players who are really great kids and they and their families seem to enjoy the team too. All is happy in NT land. Good luck to YOU and your wonderfully decent, fair and classy team. Maybe one day we will be as nice and polite as your wonderful group of players and parents. Which team is that anyway? We obviously haven't played that team in a few years.

Yes, this one kid on a midget jr AA team in the East that nobody cares about and nobody wants to play for because they are too small and chirp too much and win when they shouldn't Is an embarrassment and disgrace to the integrity of hockey in Canada.
