Come on! seller dwellers from the beginning of time.
Interesting because they had all the kids that were released from all the centres, realistically they could do this because they probably have a handfull of Niagara teens there loyal to and then may openings.

The thing working against SCTA teams is the GOJHL.

Kids who don't make OHL or Tier II can also play Junior B in all the centres (Stoney Creek, Welland, Guelph, Brantford, etc.) in the Golden Horsehoe, further diluting an already pretty weak pool.

Is it better to play Junior B, C, D rather than midget though?

Only so many 16 yr olds make these teams correct?
I guess it would make sence that there trying to make a good team because they have Welland and St.Cath but dont they have teams?

Is Buffalo in this age group as well?

I asked a buddy of mine and he says no, there just up to Minor Midget.

No, this is the only age group that Buffalo won't be joining.

From what I think I know many of these kids from the 3 Niagara teams know each other and the coach probably knows this and is trying to bring them together for one last/first horrah.

SCTA might not fair to well in the championships but they still put through many players.
Its about the guys playing the sport we love anyways, right. Without the SCTA our boys could be fathers by now, love being at the rink 4 times a week.

Finally some major midget chatter. It's true NF is trying to put together something. Parent told me on there last ice they had Riverhawks coach in attandance and both coaches have put together something to get major midgets some seasoning with them throughout the season.

I'm glad someone directed me to this thread, I'm a Brampton parent and coach who knows this guy. You couldn't ask for a better MINOR hockey coach. #1 he loves hockey #2 he's honourable #3 fair #4 family man #5 has no agenda. JN would never take $. Your comments are outrageous. JN has won as a player and as a coach and works with coaches all around Niagara and GTA to improve coaching. Have another donut ref.

Not sure which teams in SCTA will excel, would have to think the Oakville and Burlington teams will be up there. The Welland/Hamilton teams should be stripped apart with players going to play junior and the ohl.

If your not a AAA caliber player you wont develop in AAA. I'm just happy to live in a city that produces enough players to play at a AAA level. NF was last in most age groups last year and for many years before this. Your expectations are clouded. NF needs to drop to AA so future parents/kids can enjoy there hockey experience.

you're right - coaching is only part of the problem. not enough NF or NF zone players who are good enough to begin with...97 team has right idea trying out of towners, unfortunately no good ones want to come here

If your the Welland/Hamilton coaches then running a bench it might be difficult, the lesser talented teams you dont need bench management you need a coach that can get them through a year and keep working them hard and getting them to use every ounce of there AA, A frame. The Niagara based teams worked hard in the games last year, they made it close a lot of the time. Major Midget will be different for the minors coming up as there will be more players hanging around and needing a place to play come September. The Welland super team didnt look like they were organized, lot's of skill from all over the place. The Hamilton team brought in a pro and they retracted to a 500 team and network 54 has quite a bit on them. Dont get caught up with the team just make sure your kid enjoys the game. If he doesn't want to lose then play at a lower level and win.

Brampton will be great as GTA defectors come back for there final years after going no where down there.

Oakville this year will be top SCTA team, good base returning from last year, a few top 96 and 5 quality imports including a goalie will make this team one of the top 5 teams in ontario and a contender for the telus cup.

NF Midget AAA has a coach, 2 (if not 3) assistant coaches, a trainer and manager. The coach has been working with both the Jr. B and C coaches to create opportunities for kids to be AP'd. A large number of minor midget players are returning as well as some of the 95's from last year. They should have a great goaltending tandem and strong players.

STA has no coach yet, very few returning players as three or four 96's are signed to OHL teams (and will play), at least 4 (if not more) have been signed by local Jr. B teams. The players from out of town are not returning and some 96's who played have quit hockey altogether. Their one goalie has been roaming Ontario trying to get signed to a Jr A or B team. The Midget team last year was last in the league.

Tryouts start next week. So, tell me which team is folding?

As someone above said, NF is trying to be a part of the solution and should have a strong player base to build on.

There seems to be some that announce that they have signed their latest draft picks but when you check the 2012-2013 roster, they are not on the team. Signing is one thing but making the team this year is another.

Some teams are simply locking up players from potentially exploring NCAA? At the end of the day, if the player signs the school route doesn't seem to be a significant option....

Because I spoke with many parents on the team who told me him and his program are a joke, watched his team do a magnificent el foldo in the SCTA's and know how many of his players from last year have not returned, which speaks volumes!

Seen both sides of the bench, some years coaching some years not. Don't really give a crap what all of you think. Just thought I'd point out that a number of useless idiots are coaches, volunteer or not it just doesn't change the fact. Some are useless paid coaches as a matter of fact, in it to make as much money possible running training camps and off-ice conditioning clinics etc etc...

What I see is primarily these types of idiots blaming their failures on the kids.

I believe most systems can be taught to just about any kid and it's the coaches job to figure that out.

Too bad there are sooooo many useless coaches out there...many of you know who you are.

3:58pm My son is now midget aged AAA. In his time in hockey, he's had one good coach....one! This in the greatest hockey playing country in the world. Sad.

P.S. He's a pretty good hockey player, makes me wonder how good him and all those kids he has played with would be if they had had consistently good coaching all the way through the system.

define good coach. i hear ya with the ego coaches who run camps etc... most of them are in for themselves.

Let's see, I'll try and give you a synopsis of the good coach and then tidbits about the not so good....

Good coach:

- ran excellent well-planned, high-tempo practices which translated into a team that was not as skilled as opponents but had a great season, and was known to be relentess, extremely hard-working that played its positions well.
- cared about the kids. If he couldn't get through to the kids he would talk to parents to figure out what buttons to push to make them better.
- was firm in terms of discipline, but also patted the kids on the back when they earned it.
- always teaching, whether it was in games or practices.

Not so good coaches:
- yelling at the kinds.
- using inappropriate language depending on age group.
- poorly planned practices, lots of standing around, kids bored.
- never taught a breakout in minor atom AA. Kids won games in spite of the coach.
- always looknig for people to pat him on the back rather than recognizing it was about the kids.
- Lied when recruiting.

Makes sense. The recruiting thing is interesting.

Oakville finalized their roster last night after a 3-3 ties against Waterloo (6'D, 9F's and 1 rover). This team should win the SCTA and maybe even ETA. Strong defense (2 key D where missing last night) and a strong group of 95 up front-with a few key 96. Goaltending is the only question mark on this team, either of these goalies however could step it up and become gamers. Should be an interesting year-baring injuries.

Falls just started tryouts and look like they will need some help with players not goalies.
