SCTA 97 AAA

August 2 2012 at 2:22 PM

Reading the posts, having watched a bunch of Spring Hockey, having seen the player movement, having a son that played in the G before, I think the SCTA is going to be much stronger this MM season, eclipsing the G as the better loop this year.

Ha! You have got to be joking, right! SCTA will never be a stronger loop than GTHL or even the Alliance for that matter.

There were only 2 SCTA teams in the top 20 last year and 96 was a much stronger year. You will probably only see Oakville in the top 20 but they are mostly imports, same as last year.

Re: SCTA 97 AAA

SCTA will be much stronger. Everybody expects Oakville, STA, Brampton to be at the top. That is proabably where it will land. Most improved should be Halton, based on all the GTHL alleged stars coming there way. However, chemistry will be a major problem. There will be some surprises in the league.

To 9:51 -
Is Buffalo playing out of Fort Erie? - Not in our age group as of now
What are their residency rules? - None, but they promised to play fair. SCTA/OMHA will be monitoring.
Are they eligible for the playoffs? - SCTA Tournament yes, OMHA Tournament no.
What does that do to the season schedule? - Now 40 games (10 opponents, 2 games each home & away) instead of 36.

STA has solid coaching, tough to beat at home, couple of solid new players and the addition of MD make this team a likely second place finisher and if they come up big at home they could challenge Oakville for first.

Hamilton has Oakville's tendy, that gives them someone solid between the pipes for the first time in a long time, that will give the rest of the team confidence and could make them the wildcard this season. If they get on an early roll watch for them to be top three.

Re: SCTA 97 AAA

August 12 2012, 2:00 PM

Halton will not finish second!!!

Oakville...no reason to fall after pickups for this season.
STA...A few pickups and the team was getting better as the year went on.
Brampton...The team has picked up additional scoring. Just hope you have a healthy goalie all season.
Hamilton...No coaching but tons of talent should carry them to 4th.
Grey Bruce...Hardest working team in the loop along with fairly good coaching.
Halton...Virtually new team, will take some time to come together. Coaching remains a concern.
Buffalo...???

The rest is a crap shoot an really non factor teams in the loop.

Good luck.

Re: SCTA 97 AAA

August 12 2012, 10:20 PM

Has the SCTA thought about setting this up for the rest of the teams. This Buffalo thing doesn't seem too well thought out.

July 19, 2012

Dear Buffalo Regal Parent:

As you know, in April 2012 Buffalo Regals Triple A Hockey was unanimously approved to join the South-Central Triple A Hockey League. This provides our players with the opportunity to complete against some of the best triple A teams in Southern Ontario. Of course this also means that travel to and from Canada for practice and league games will increase.

To assist our players and their families with cross border travel, the Buffalo Regals have teamed up with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the NEXUS Niagara initiative to expedite border processing through enrollment in the NEXUS program. NEXUS is a joint program between U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Canada Border Services to expedite the border clearance process for low-risk, pre-approved travelers.

The program allows pre-screened travelers expedited processing through dedicated NEXUS lanes resulting in considerable time savings when crossing the international bridges between Buffalo and Canada. The application fee is $50 for adults, however all children under 18 years of age can apply for free. Your NEXUS card is valid for 5 years.

The Buffalo Regals have worked with the NEXUS Niagara initiative to streamline the approval and interview process for the upcoming season for our players and their families who apply for NEXUS by August 1, 2012. Once you have submitted your application online, please send your names and PASS identification numbers to Mary Kompson [email protected] who will compile a list and coordinate expedited enrollment processing.

Information regarding NEXUS and the application process can be found in the attached brochure or by visiting www.NEXUSNiagara.com, a link to the NEXUS Niagara website can be found on www.buffaloregals.org .

Please consider taking advantage of this opportunity. We are looking forward to an exciting season. See you all on the ice!

Sincerely,

Michael Answeeney
President

HH will not compete with the big boys and the deal that your former goalie dad coach for these so called great imports are G throw aways. Nice homework kids. SCTA 97 AAA

September 20 2012, 12:31 PM

SEPT 19TH - GREY-BRUCE HIGHLANDERS V BRAMPTON 45S
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2012 AT 10:15PM
by Brandon Sudeyko (@intheoradio)

It was the opening game of the season for both teams, as Grey-Bruce has not beaten Brampton in over a year. The pace to the game was very quick and very fast as both teams controlled the play in different fashions. GBH would stick to a strong side attack and the classic ‘dump and chase’ method to try and pin Brampton down low. The 45’s however would respond with their 1-2-2 coverage and utilize their speed and breakout passes to create chances. Both teams had several opportunities to tip the scale in their favour but it was GBH who struck first as the puck came out from behind the net to the stick of Van Ootenghem who was able to slide it by Blacker. Some controversy on the play as the net came off which allowed GBH to take the 1-0 lead in the first, Garrett McFadden with the assist on the play. The game continues on and you can see the speed versus system game begin to shape up. GBH could control the offensively play, pinning Brampton in their end and yet Brampton would seemingly have better breakouts and the better offensive chances. During the 2nd period, a scary moment as after the play was whistled off side, GBH Spencer Elder was carrying the puck and letting up while at the same time Brampton’s Austin Ferguson hit Elder high and he laid on the ice for several minutes. At the start of the third GBH lead 2-1 and quickly Ethan Skinner extended their lead. GBH would try to shutdown any and all Brampton rushes from that point on. Just like Brampton did near the end of the second period, Stevie Mariani from behind the net found Robbie Gisante and it was a one-goal game as GBH lead 3-2. The 45’s continued their pressure but in the end the Highlanders were able to hold off the speed and skill of Brampton to win the first game of the season and end their losing streak to Brampton.

Asses handed to them by the Marlies?????

It was 4-0 Dickwad...not 8-0 !

Marlies scored 15 seconds into the game on a bad giveaway infront of the STA net....
2nd Goal was a 2 on 1 and Strome sniped shelf...
3rd goal Stephens rolled off his check and sniped shelf in tight and they got the 4th on the PP late in the third...
Assess handed to them ? They were one of the better Teams to watch.

It was a very good game and the Marlie Goalie played very very well.

Oh, and the Marlies were done at 3:30 Sat afternoon and STA played a late one at 8:45 and that game ended late.... Not to make excuses for STA, but they looked tired.

STA should have beaten YSE had it not been for the horrific Ref who was continually behind the play and game YSE 5 PP in a row.... and yet they only beat STA 3-2.

STA played poorly in that game but the Marlies were not a Powerhouse...

Do not be an idiot. That should preclude having to read most of the following, but they follow, just in case.
No names. If you must reference players, parents or coaches, only use initials.
No disparaging kids in any way. Nothing nice to say? Say nothing.
Do not start threads intended to cut up people or organizations.
No player ranking threads.
Keep the signal to noise ratio high. Check if there is a thread on the front page that is on your topic before starting a new one. A few off topic threads will be tolerated, but if the signal to noise ratio on the front page gets too low, these threads will be the first to go.
Keep the pic / music / video threads for Friday. They will be locked on Mondays, and deleted if posted on other days.
Keep pictures posted in line with the N54 terms of service.
If you object to a thread, post a link to it in the moderation forum. Do not whine on a vanilla thread that I may not read.
No "these Organizations / Coaches / Teams / skating instructors / schools are shit" threads. Constructive criticism or review is fine. If you have an opinion state it, don't just malign.

It clearly states 'IF YOU MUST REFERENCE A PLAYER...'

Let me try again, the person who posted the message WAS NOT REFERENCING A PLAYER' he merely coped and pasted a published article readily available online for anyone to see. Hell, one might argue that altering a published work may infringe on a copyright work (which is inherent under the Laws of Canada. That means you don't have to file for a copyright - Dumbass)

1:47 it does not take 2-2.5hrs to get from miss to don mills, especially at 7pm at night, alsoyes things will change but your are implying that only Brampton will supposingly get better. Do you think maybe GB will also get better?

PV has done a poor job developing kids, ie JS, MS, MC and etc, and has to recuirt new kids every year to compete, which explains replacing 1/2 a team every year. Last night game clearly showed the NEW brampton kids are doing the heavy lifting while kids from past years a fading fast. The sad part of it is that by year end even the NEW brampton kids will have been deprived of development and get worse as the year goes on to a point you will be lucky to have 1-2 kids drafted. It hapened 3 years ago when PV and company coached the MM age group and it has hapened every year since this guy has been coach at he 97 age group. This will be all evident by the year end. Hopefully kids are getting a whole bunch of training on the side.

8.07 - Score did not reflect game. STA scored at least 5 goals that should have been stopped. Goalie had a bad night - it happens. Very discouraging to a team that tries hard and was in the game and should have scored a couple more of their own. Eagles more than held their own in the first and third period. STA won it by scoring 5 debatible goals in 5 minutes.

The first goal you scored to tie late in the first period was not a good goal. It came on a long shot that the goalie completely misjudged and was out of position.

As stated outside of 5 minutes when 5 goals were scored it was a close game. Most of your shots were not good quality chances.

You were outscored in the third period also when BE goalie was changed.

Are you back? BORING. Which coach isnt a recruiter? All I know is we've been to the OMHA's every season hes had the team. I can tell you one thing for certain, the first two years had zero talent save for 1 line and a couple D and a goalie. If anything hes a miracle worker or whichever player runs the bench as you say is.

So if hes a good recruiter then I would assume he would thank you for the compliment.

Re: SCTA 97 AAA

So we have complaints that he shortens the bench too much, then he lets the players run the bench. Which one is it? Doesnt this contradict?

Then we have complaints that he recruits players. Which coach doesnt?

Is this all you got? Why waste your time and my time reading this? I will never get back that 4 seconds of my life.

All I see is improvement every year and OMHA's every year along with Oakville. Maybe the other 9 SCTA teams should start following his model.

And maybe you should have put your son in privates all along with the rest of them at this level.

I think BE are much improved from last year. Game was uncomfortably close in the 1st. BE goalie had a lapse and STA capitalized. If it wasn't for that lapse the game would have been closer unfortunately. BE will not be push overs this year at all.

Did anyone else notice MD the one man show. He will not share the biscuit unless he knows he can get it back. Very disappointing. Heard a scout mention he was a selfish player. If he continues to play like this he will hurt his team, hurt his image and may even get less ice. He's going about impressing the wrong way. Hope he becomes a team player for the team's and his sake.

1:59 - I know there is not a lot of honest talk on this thread and you can take this for what it's worth, but I am a goalie parent and GH was interested in taking my boy. He pleaded with the board when they were making their decision about imports and to his credit, he had some solid arguments/reasons for taking imports. When they came down with the final decision of 2 imports but NO GOALIES, it was clearly because of the '97 goalie parent on the board (for the record, it was his boy that took the shelling last night vs STA). For those that are questioning this, look to see who the "Goalie Mentor" is on the board website:

http://burlingtoneagles.com/about.html

Again, I know how this website operates (95% BS, 5% truth), so take this for what it's worth. But I'm hoping because I provided some facts, you can take some solace that this is the legitimate answer to your question.

Re: SCTA 97 AAA

September 26 2012, 5:00 PM

@SCTAFAN has it right. There are other kids who deserve looks but don't get them because they haven't been pimped over the years by their dads like a certain few in the league, don't have agents who are pimping them now, aren't rich or over 6 feet or have relatives who have played high level hockey and all their connections. But these kids are good and get overlooked. I'm tired of hearing about BB from B45s, MD and CW from STA, Spencer from OR, MS from TM etc. If you read some of the "scouting" reports on players so far I'm sure you had some chukles like me. These guys regurgitate what they've heard over the years and continue to spew it out like its Gospel. Well it isn't. Some of the players do not skate as well as you say, others do not back check or are huge puck hogs, others are bad teammates. But all we hear are the same names and comments since Novice. I think it's time for everyone to actually watch the games and ALL the players not just the chosen ones. These scouting reports are from nerds who live in their mother's basements and most likely never played hockey before. Do some real scouting and find some positives in the other 98% of the players and report on them, not just the 2% we keep hearing about. Anyone can see the positives in the top 2%. No skill or hockey eye is needed for that. But can you actually make up your own minds on the other good players? I say no. It seems like a very closed world for a select few only. So disappointing. i hope you prove me wrong over the season.

From @sctafan...

These guys are real good but may not be on your radar because not pimped, no agent, not 6', not rich, not related to past pro players...

HBD – Saigeon, Smith, Kelly, Fletcher
OR – Kohler, Barwell, Craievich, Capobianco
B45 – Smith, Hill, Mariani
STA – Baird, Celebre, Schoeman, DiFelice
GBH – McFadden, Turnbull, Elder

Responding to 5:oo pm Sept 26th above:

HBD – Saigeon, Smith, Kelly, Fletcher
Saigeon as a 98 is the Real deal...Next year
Smith-Small but a good player & Skates very well at Both ends of the Ice
Kelly - doesnt see the Ice or manage the puck well, poor skater,
Fletcher - Kid crashes and bangs but has very little ability to create

Perhaps...St.Pierre & Staios

OR – Kohler, Barwell, Craievich, Capobianco

All of the Above....

Perhaps Spencer - Plus Mackenzie

B45 – Smith, Hill, Mariani

Smith -Like the HBD..is Just too small..but gifted
Hill - needs to fine tune his defensive game
Mariani - will get looks needs to put on some Muscle

STA – Baird, Celebre, Schoeman, DiFelice

Baird - HE IS 6ft -Poor skater, Ltd ability, hard hitter, needs to develop Self discipline,
Celebre - Small frail, Great skater, makes poor decisions in crucial areas of the Ice
Schoeman - Great Lateral Movement, Has the ability to climb to next level if he grows
DiFelice - Small Player,Good skater & Playmaker, Size and Puck distibution hurt this player

Perhaps - Fox, Bianchi,Cranwell

GBH – McFadden, Turnbull, Elder

Mcfadden - Has been carrying Team last 2 years,If he would only grow to 6'2..Has what it takes
Turnbull - Needs to develop Def side of his game, good skater
Elder - Hard worker but Ltd in ability

No Much else in GB

Well if anyone watched the Brampton VS Halton game last night, I'm sure you would agree that MM of Halton was the difference in the game. This is no slight to BB of B45s. MM played awesome and showed he was better then his counterpart at the other end. Many scouts at the game last night. My kid is not on anyones radar, but it was easy to see what kids came to play. Good luck the rest of the way MM, you showed everyone last night that your ready for the next level.

STA won a close one? I guess the coach was smart & didn't play "III" in net then. He'll be lucky to start 15 games this year.

Looks like HBD are the real deal this year. See what happens when you get goalies that can actually stop a puck. Their goalies are the difference makers this year for sure. I feel sorry for STA picking up Thurston Howell III. They will not get as many wins as expected because of it.

Anyone see MD on the ice? He was a non factor. Other than his open net goal he did nothing but tried to hog the puck and get nowhere. What a waste of skill trying to play by yourself.

The difference between the two teams last night really is the following:

HBD - played full bench
STA - played 3/4 of the bench

The 1/4 that did not play were HBD cast-offs. Sad to see already as it was our home opener: Long season ahead for: CE, RL, PM, BC, JB, TE (none will make the draft due to the fact that scouts will not get to watch them perform. Why they came here is beyond me but I enjoy watching our local players get over played.

SB STA Coach has an agenda to get certain kids drafted and it was evident last night as HBD used their entire Bench and STA players sat and were cold. Its Sept and hes already reducing Ice time???????????
Develop all your players ....not just your Favorites.

SCTA 97 AAA

September 28 2012, 8:15 AM

Yes he shortens the Bench in the 1st Period.... but his Team won 3-1... He will do whatever he has to do to WIN as it will get his Stars more Ice time...and it will Elevate him as a Coach because he wants to coach other Hockey in the next year or so and with a great winning record he will do that and unfortunately SB isnt mature enough as a Coach or person yet to understand that part of coaching is not going to a short Bench right off the Hop and not penalizing kids for a mistake by reducing Ice time but by " Coaching"..taking the time to instruct and show errors and make corrections and use the "Positive negative Positive Approach" and do the proper thing..." COACH" . Unfortunately he is a Coach who wins at all costs.... and doesnt think of the Big picture of development.
When he finally matures and realizes his Job is to Coach & Develop his full compliment of players he has on his roster...then his team will be even more successful.

So lets get this straight, Oakville, Brampton, STA, Hamilton and Halton have no coaching. But not to worry, the bottom end teams do. Alot of experts on this site or should I say alot of hurt feelings from snip snip.

The point was that Welland only plays local players consistently. Again this year the ex-HBD players are getting the short end of the stick being on STA by keeping the bench warm. Enjoy saying you’re a top team but your what did you do to help this team. I guess it was worth the money to have a team picture with MD and his crew. Dollars well spent. What a mistake and no one to blame except yourself on placing winning over your child playing and having a real look at living his dream. Beat the chest concepts by saying look at well my son’s team is doing but really what should be said is that you ex-HBD parents did not do your homework...

"The difference between the two teams last night really is the following:

So you are admitting that because you played everyone you lost. Which means that some players on the HBD bench are not that good and caused you to lose. We agree ,FL picked the wrong players. He could have had 15 really good players but instead has only 10. Thanks for admitting that guys like BG, BD, ASP, BF, MJ drag your team down. Finally a breakthrough!

SB is limiting the ice of some players yes, but that will change over time. He just out coached FL to get the win. I'm ok with that.

Re: SCTA 97 AAA

Stating Facts:

STA:
Upside - Good coaching in place
Downside - Only cycles his local talented players (core group)
Result - team will separate as the season goes and if kids on bench are needed they will check out and play for themselves versus SB (allowing the possible teams of Oakville/Brampton/Halton/Grey-Bruce to get through)
Players In Draft - 2-3 dmen, 4 forwards, no goalies

HJB:
Upside - all players are given a chance to compete and will play every night
Downside - the full coaching staff is clueless
Result - close but no cigar in OMHA advancement (FL and his crew drop ball once again)
Players In Draft - 2 dmen, 3-4 forwards, 1 goalie
- Best player is underage – no exception will happen
