Marlies didn't win any tournaments last year, hardly making it out of the prelims in most cases. This year they are even weaker. No chance of them winning this tournament. Sorry LS, that ship has sailed.

Re: Minor Midget Prospects Tournament -Toronto Titans

Fact is, a lot of good talent has been redistributed from traditional powerhouse teams and that just makes for good hockey at tournaments like this. I don't think we can go to tournaments any more and assume Marlies/Rebels/Rangers/Kings or whoever will just automatically win. Yes, most of those teams are still strong, just not automatic any more.

Minor Midget Prospects Tournament -Toronto Titans

August 20 2012, 11:05 PM

What a Joke... The Titans should be embarrassed....They Play the Guelph storm 1st game of the Tourney,

They Put the weakest Team in the Whole Tournament as their opponent in the 1st Game... Guelph Storm... They won 4 out of 36 games last year,

60 GF 141 AGN

http://www.omha.net/standings/display_standings.asp?lid=101&did=1510

Then they Put themselves against another weak SCTA team Niagara North Stars who finished 6th... and lost their Best player MD to another Team.

The North Central Predators.... Sorry who are they.....

And South Central Coyotes... Well they are sub par... So basically its their tournament and they have ensured they are playing shit Teams so they can advance, Wow..... Unreal

Every team who runs a tournament structures their divisions to ensure that they advance out of the RR. In this case, the Titans must not think very highly of their own team given how truly weak their division is.

Stupidity are people that think the scouts go out to these RR games, most scouts dont come out til later in the tournament when all the better players and teams are left. You parents are still living a dream. Keep your kid in school, they will need the education, because they have not been getting their intelligents from you.

People: forget about the scouts and all of the associated speculation. Let the boys play and enjoy what will be the
most exciting season of hockey yet! My kid is pumped about getting back at it with his teammates and competing. Yeah, a bunch of kids will get drafted, but REALLY, unless your kid is outstanding, being drafted gives you nothing more than so
something to brag about to those who don't understand the process.

Firstly its `` intelligence``...... I guess your parents failed keep you in school...

So wrong....

Some kids are om the Radar come Bantam... The others get heavily looked at this Tournament, and from their it begins.
There are Role Players and Diamonds in the Rough, Kids that play well but are on a bad team, The D-man that only Racks up 3-4 goals a year with a few assists but is so dependable in crucial situations... The scouts are pretty much there all weekend as there are lots of games to cover and players are not only drafted from strong Teams they are drafted from all teams.
Kids get hurt & suspended over the weekend and a Scout is not going to miss an opportunity to see a kid play and if they are interested they will meet the coaches after and ask questions about whether the kid prepared in the off season and what his habits are like and start to build a portfolio about the player.

So just the RR.... No ...thats incorrect.

See for yourself....... watch some games...

The advance scouts see something and will in turn report to the Head Scout who may also send someone done to look at the kid or he may even come down himself to see for himself if they think they have a diamond in the Rough. There are lots of 6 & 7th round players playing in the OHL and NCAAA... 4,5,6...most of them drop off..so its important for the Scouts to ensure even the weak Teams get scouted on Thursday ,Friday and Saturday.

Dont believe me....Just ask a scout whose there...

Take it from someone who just went through it. Unless your kid is one of the top 20 players in Ontario he better be big. Scouts love size (goes for goalies as well). Many very talented players were over-looked because they were on the small side. Many players who lacked skill were drafted because they were big. In the end it doesnt really matter. A lot of the kids that were drafted are realizing that they have to play midget hockey this year anyways. Some of them are having a tough time finding a team.

It's not a big deal, trust me. My son was not drafted last April and sun still came up the next day. Minor Midget is not the end of hockey, it is actually the beginning.

The best thing you can do for your son in minor midget is ensure there is as little pressure as possible and help him along the way understand that if he still loves the game, regardless of the draft he can continue to play at a high level.

It would be interesting to hear from the parents of drafted kids, the ones drafted in round 3 and after. How did their summer go, how many of them made their O team or a Jr A/B team? are they having real chance to make it to a Jr C? Are they trying to get a spot on a Midget team?
Is anyone there willing to share the after draft experience?

Midget tryouts go on in September, so as junior teams make their cuts the two age groups drift back to the Midget teams. The schedule doesn't start until late September so no-one is assured of making their respective midget team until at least mid-September at the earliest.

All those deals everyone has become so accustomed to in the past? Gonzo!

"Oakville, BB, Marlies and Rebels are the only teams stacked with talent"

Take a look at the TRW line up- they will be extremely competitive. Picked up CK from TM, 3 VK's, goalie from OR, a Russian kid that's supposed to be able to score and a couple of others still in the works. Big D with speed as well as lots of speed and skill up front. All in all, a far cry from the bruising crash and bang style they opted for last year only to have the rule changes come in after the team was picked. Should be right up there with TM MR and JRC. Titans Tournament should offer a good glimpse.

7th place finish a year before. Roster looks good and they will do well at the beginning, but will start falling as other teams get coached. In the end, they will be in the same scenario as the past years. TRW always had a decent roster. The end results never matched up though.

A guy who can skate who is six two? Listen lazy scout, you have to go to the games! You have to do your own leg work. This is the reason those great players always seem to get away from you. If they tell you on here, you are the only one who doesn't know and ten advisors have already approached these kids. You are too late.
PS You could also be a parent looking for someone to pimp your kid.

yes it is. The first 2 rounds of the draft are devoted to total skill. Rounds 3-6 are devoted to players that may be less skilled now but show an upside through smarts / vision / size etc. After round 6....Best of luck ( not that there aren't exceptions of course )

Any 6 ft 2 + kids in this tournament who can skate? I guess not from responses. I have heard from many this is weak year and trying to determine if even worth going to this tournament. Saw Allstate game and it had a couple very very good players in Barz and McD and many bad players. My underastading and limited game action leads me to think this draft will be more about size and speed and a few goalies.

Of the 97's in the GTHL, 3 of these talented "elite" will play for a living in the NHL (we already know who they are)- so, approximately 45 of them will have to look at OHL as a fun pasttime for 50-100$ a week and work hard at school to achieve plan B

I do not see 3 kids from 97 AAA who will play in nhl. I have seen 20 to 30 playoff and tournament games and allstate. The best bet I see is 27 TM as 3rd line power centre. TK likely if he mixes it up more. Thats it max.

3:59, the point is not late round O drafts that made the NHL. there are more of these than most people are aware of.

the point I made to 1:33 is that it's a moving target, and that a point in time during the minor midget year/O draft does not equate to an NHL regular.

even being drafted in the 1st round of the NHL draft doesn't assure this. your Stajan example, while in reverse, is the same point.

How many truly non-biased people go watch minor hockey games and then take the time to come to N54 to post about it? None. Ever. Maybe not dad, but definitely an interested party. So grandpa, family advisor, former coach, or whatever, please just keep it to yourself. No one on N54 cares.

I'm calling bullshit. What scout would possibly bring attention to another player that he might want his team to take a look at. And if you are a "scout", you're not a true paid scout, but one of countless unpaid "scouts" that submits lists of players to the real team scouts. But if you truly are a paid OHL team scout, then you're a complete fucking idiot for coming on N54 to gauge what's going on in the minor hockey world. Either way you look at it, you're a fucking tool.

Jr Sabres actually do not play in the midwest league. And, the team is not all that great! Your 96s are that whole team. The 97s are new to the league and will get absolutely demolished when they play the Elite teams and furthermore, the 97 goalie that just made the team is too little to even be on the team, the other teams will run him like a bunch of bulls! Good luck though!

Regals played in some Spring tourneys this year and were pretty good, BUT they did so under the "U16" level meaning they had 97's and 96's. Can't say for sure what the split was but there was a significant # of 96's. They will probably be OK.
However, anyone on here saying they are A++ or B- doesn’t know shite because they haven’t played against OMHA or GTHL teams yet.

And no they didn’t play Oakville yet. Just some sh-t disturber. The same guy who wants to malign everything that is Oakville. Same sh-t for brains that says that OR have impending coaching changes, infighting, withdrawals from tournaments etc. ad nauseum.

I guess OR must be good if this dude feels compelled to gossip like a 14 year old girl (apologies to all 14 year old girls…you can’t be this bad).

re 11:32

Something to think about...

Your kid has less than 1 in 200,000 chance of making a real career in the NHL out of this recreational sport. Even if your kid is a AAA superstar, he will in all likelihood end up in the junior pro leagues at best. There he will toil for $40k per year from 19 - 27, never playing a game in the NHL, only to be let go as he approaches his thirties with no education and no chance at a real job.

It is the quintessential dead end career path!

So all you parents on N54 busy plotting out juniors next career move, take a step back and ask yourself where are you going with all this? who you are doing this for and why?

Reality check time folks, enjoy the game but get an education.

After day 1, the cores reflect that the OMHA (ETA and SCTA) teams have out performed the mighty GTHL. The tournament season is going to be interesting with lots of teams that no one seems to think much of upsetting others. We will need to wait and see what tomorrow brings.

Well done TRW, Marlies and NATS for representing.

I am new here. In the next days ,i hope we can share more thing about our life or experience in our hockey life .
Brandon has up to now worn a new pair of skates, you don't say, I also remember:
The first pair of skates: a pair of grafs, bottom is very thin;
Second pais of skates: a pair of vapours, bottom is also very thin, very convenient to wear, this pair of skates for a long time;
Third pairs of skates: neighbor gave skates, a pair of black stiff leather bauer, son Doug likes to wear, is also very comfortable, until finally almost more broken;
Fourth pairs of skates: purchased in Buffalo, now you everybody on the opposite side of a buying in USA, I and my hustband don't care, we buy each pair of skates very seriously, carefully selected, since put on the skates, no well you rest. As a result of new skates Brandon skates not well, weird, not tight edges, the skates will be last time worn;
Fast forward to September 08, the cooler weather, seems to make feet smaller, grandma buys Vector now skating worse, this time tournament terrible.
He prefer trendy skates but cannot skate, cannot wear; now I think I just goto Wal-Mart, so what cheap; hate skates.
