Since 50K won't cut it at the end of my life expectency, paying membership dues is a waste

Response to RICK'S SITUATION - cryonics insurance sad sad tale... don't do what I did.

I'll tell my tale in bits and pieces as I'm inspired and sort it out later... the first thought being that since I've realized that 50K won't get me a high tech neuro in 30-50 years... that I'll need 10X that amount-- given inflation and higher technology... not to mention transport, and standby... which are not covered by the fee itself.. then NOT having that amount makes contributing to the membership fee of Alcor over 30-50 years a waste of money-- I can't possibly get what I want for the nominal 50K amount.

Over 50 years, at rough $1000 to an increasing amount toward -- who knows -- $5000? -- a year... to remain a member... I would have laid out 50 X (avg amt) 2500 /year... $250K for membership... and insurance would have to be increased to about a million to be reasonably hopeful in covering my preservation in 30-50 years... raising my insurance to about $500/mo or at least 6000 a year -- over 50 years would be 300K... the total outly to "stay in the game" being about 600K total. That amount could easily destroy my late life income... I don't expect to be able to afford what "cryonics REALLY costs"...

And I'm so convinced of this point now that I can no longer suspend my disbelief in the financial side of cryonics for myself. Without the hope I once had, I find it difficult to pay Alcor dues anymore ... or even to sustain my current life insurance policy without transferring ownership back to myself... and giving up... or just cashing the policy in for it's cash value-- and simply putting the money in savings.

I feel like the little kid in Puff the Magic Dragon.

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee

Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff,
and brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff. Oh

Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout perched on Puff's gigantic tail,
Noble kings and princes would bow whene'er they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flags when Puff roared out his name. Oh

A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, Puff could not be brave,
So Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. Oh
