Sophists must always present themselves as authorities of reason in order to refer subsequent rebuttals to their own rationality. Sophistry is hard to beat because a person must denounce the imposed system of rules and look directly at concrete reality. The sophist will then accuse the opponent of "cheating" (i.e., intimidation/humiliation).

Another note worthy of mention: One of the basic aspects of sophistry is that it takes more time to untangle it than most people have.
