Response to Parallel Layers
Another most interesting post from you.
Personal Trivia: Years ago while digging into a mountain of shale (2500 feet above sea level) many trilobites found (saved them too). Then a little higher just around the bend (perhaps up around 2600 feet) and about 500 feet North while getting some gravel - down rolls this chunk of cemented rock about the size of a softball with what was clearly the carving of a little blackened foot exposed on one side of it. Worked on it off and on for about week - got most of the gravel chipped off (very carefully!) and found it was a clay flute in the shape of a frog (only had two holes ..and still played!). Still got it in a drawer in the cabin wrapped in cloth. Surely flutes were not around when those trilobites were laid in ..but both were a nice find.
