German Air Force pilots are being kitted out in protective clothing with the help of a company in Co Antrim.
Survitec Group, which makes equipment and clothing for the marine, defence and aerospace industries, won the multi-million euro deal with BWB, the procurement agency for the air force.
The group employs 252 people at RDF Beaufort in Dunmurry.
A spokeswoman for Survitec said component parts for the suits were being supplied by UK companies across Survitec, with the suits assembled by sister company DSB in Hanover, Germany.
The new ensemble for aircrew includes underwear and will offer protection in cold water, as well as thermal installation and protection from fire.
David Griffiths, vice president of defence sales at Survitec Group, said: "We are delighted to have been awarded this contract which demonstrates the appeal of our complete system approach and builds on our long standing relationships with BWB and the German Air Force.
"Developing the suits to meet the needs of the German Air Force has been an evolutionary process and the result is a unique system that will offer enhanced protection to all aircrew, enabling operations to be conducted in the most challenging and extreme environments.
"This contract is the largest DSB has secured in 20 years and forms a significant part of our development in Europe."
