Open Seats of Morobe Province

February 25 2012 at 11:14 PM
Unity in Morobe

We have 8 Open Electorates in Morobe. If all the 8 open members plus the governer can pull together as one for the common good of the province, it is really good. Reality is hard. But the idea is, working together for the common good. There's alwaya positive in failures to learn from and do something useful. Success is only a step away if all the 9 MP can all unite. Can't go to Parliament divided. Maybe not. Any thoughts?

How to get Morobean leaders to cooperate (if we cared)

February 26 2012, 9:43 AM

Here is my thought. If the people put hard pressure on their MPs to work together, they would work together. But the people either don't care that our MPs work together or too lazy to do what it takes to pressure the MPs.

In any democratic government, elected officials only perform when they're put under pressure by the voters to perform. If they're not under pressure, most (not all) of them go slack, and that's true anywhere in the world.

The diffference between PNG and most countries is that in most countries the public, public advocacy NGOs, etc etc all combine to put pressure on their elected officials. In PNG, we let our elected officials run wild, moving to Moresby, pamuking around on Facebook (Beldon Namah), stealing money, partying, and God knows what else. We hear about these things and STILL the PNG public doesn't put pressure on these people to behave.

Yumi igat wanpela sik of not standing up and saying "enough" to our pollies, and forcing them to work honestly and cooperatively.

Agree! These leaders have no knowledge about what is the constitution rights and ethics law that are instituted to govern the country. All they do is do what you described. I felt sorry for our leaders that are not well educated enough to understand the broader perspectives in terms of international bilateral talks. This is showing a lack of education or approaches this ministers and representative have taken. My friend what else we will get out of them? They are becoming puppet players when making decision. They are not following every order (Supreme Court) and other concern regulations that established to abide by. When you analyze every process these elected leaders make, you sometimes easily pointed out certain leaders make this decision are not qualify or aware of the consequences of the decisions they made. Yes, we are living in the (21st century) were the technology has influenced world significantly, and yet our leaders are not advance in some of the thoughts that can really define character and morale as a genuine leader. The conviction and fear of breaking Law is not for them. PNG laws and order became grassroots people’s law to comply with, not for the leaders of the parliament. Lives and future of a bright nation seems to getting dime because every procedures and how things process in the higher offices has corrupted which have its impact on the street. Many people on the streets will vote because of (lus cigarette’s money or lus lunch money) but not for MPs they think would provide the service. In the past, leaders like Iambeki Okuk have type of a vision to put PNG WELFARE as number one priority? Today, you cannot find this type of leader again…because corruption has influenced both side of an aisle. PNG leaders will face this problem until them willing to give it up and ready to change, then people will see the meaning of the transparency rather than that it’s all about dysfunction leadership that defiled every potential service people should get.

I think your verdict is worth only 2 toea (maybe less) cuz you haven't given any support evidence to back up your statements.

Please, if you're a college student or graduate, write and debate like a professional.

Why smaller countries are economically stagnant has to do with the lack of proper stability which each government body is not delivering the services and infrastructure accordingly to empower its economic growth. The leadership is not compliant by the standard in terms of accountability, integrity, and stabilizing stronger relationships within the community.

Smaller countries are economically stagnant? Huh??? I guess by your definition Singapore, Sri Lanka, and dozens of other good growth economy nations aren't 'small'..... even though the entire country of Singapore is about the size of the NCDC.

Check your facts b4 you mauswara next time, ok?

I think you missed the point. The onus is on the PEOPLE, not the leaders, to pressure the leaders to behave. It's the people of PNG who are ignorant of the constitution, etc.

Leaders of Australia, America, Japan, etc would all go corrupt if the citizens of those countries let them run wild the way we let our PNG pollies run wild.

I am yet to see a true Morobean Leaders. Hon Sam Basi has set some standards. I would prefer a Morobe MP that mobilises the province's human resources through frequent consultations or networking as well as local wisdom to deliver tangilbe benefits. All elites of the province need to be utilised in the development of every electorate.

Re: Open Seats of Morobe Province

Get your facts right my friend, Morobe has 9 open electorates and the regional seat makes 10 altogether. Imagine if all our MPs unite together as a political block, Morobe will always be represented in every new government and they will always be the power brokers when it comes to formation of governments. This will never happen unless in a special case whereby Bob Sinclair and Kelly Naru coming together with their millions of kina and forming a rich home grown political party in Morobe and maybe then with their combined resources their party might win all the seats in the province. That's when we can have all our MPs standing together as a unit in a single party and fighting for our rights and the development of our province. The other option is for us to vote in young vibrant and logical thinking individuals as independant MPs then they can come together collectively and form a political block that can push for Morobe's interest on the national scene. Come on Morobeans, we can be smart can't we? The coming election is the best time to try out these options.Otherwise Morobe will continue to be a recruiting ground for major players in the political game. Over to you analysists!

How does one determine who is "logical thinking" amongst the candidates?

People with logical thinking will see sense in what I have written but for those who can not, logical thinking in political context would apply to how well a leader can set his goals and priorities right from the start and smartly work thru them using effective and sensible means available at his or her disposal. It is not about getting things done but how best things can get done within limited time and resources to the full satisfaction of the electorate he or she represents. That's what I mean by logical thinking and don't ask me to give an example because then you are becoming like a school kid and not fit to be commenting on this topic.

Logical thinking is defined as "A learned Process" to be able to use the lessons of the past and come up with a solution in any any given situation. It means sensible response in a logical manner. Say for instance, in algebra, before you do fraction you must know how to do division and multiplication but before one could do that he must understand how to do addition and subtraction so so on and so forth.

Hope that helps.

The country is into rapid disentigrated and no doubt it will require unity in Morobe to the Province from further disarray. All "D9" have to come together as one to serve. Let us look at all our intellectuals from our 9 districts who are contesting and tell our them this is what we want if they has to have your vote. We need to build a block it will be called the "D9 Block" with each candidate being equal in every aspect of leadership to maintainand the long term sustainibility of the block. This will give us muscle to be broker and serve our province. The province is bound to benefit immensely from the current economic boom and going forward in the next 30 years and future should the "D9 Block" is formed. Others can restle for PM, DPM, etc... who cares as long as we are the power brokers so we can dictate.

You are dreaming about perfect world that does not exist .

How can you control the behavious of entire voters of Morobe province to make them vote for want you like ?

It's beyond your or anyone's control.

Deal with issues which are controllable to save your energy

Can you you control rainfall ? you can't , Its beyong your control, but you can control the rainwater run-off by constructing proper dranages to manage flood and disasters.

Same thing, suggest ideas on how we can create unity by what we have and can control.

Baing for Morobe Regional

March 30 2012, 4:03 PM

Baing to run for governor seat

By EVAH KUAMIN - Post Courier

FORMER Markham MP Andrew Baing yesterday made known his intention to contest the Morobe Regional Seat.
Mr Baing, who served for two consecutive terms as a member of Parliament will be contesting the governor’s seat under the People’s Progress Party (PPP) banner.
Speaking yesterday during a press conference, Mr Baing said his observations of how Morobe has been in the last five years has depicted the need for good effective leadership in the province.
Mr Baing said he has been with PPP since 1972 and had never at one time switched political parties.
He said he had great beliefs in the political party systems of the country, which he said was better than contesting as an independent candidate.
Political stability, he said was very important and switching from party to party only potrayed instability.
Mr Baing said it was pleasing to also see elites like Sir John Kaputin contesting the East New Britain Regional seat.
He said during this time Parliament was full of “cowboys” who were unsure of their stand in the government.
He added that the recent passing of the Judicial Conduct Law was a clear potrayal of these “cowboys” hijacking the Constitution.
Mr Baing said the coming elections were very crucial and vital for the preservation of the country’s Constitution.
He said he was concerned about the current view that the Government was trying to control the judicial system.
He explained that if the Consitution were to be amended, it required three separate Parliament sittings, however, the current new law was not passed through three sittings – all done in one day.
Mr Baing said the Government’s motive in passing the new law has been questionable and should be repealed.

Just goes to show you that pollies know we have very short term memories.

Andrew Baing reckons that everyone's forgotten that he got kicked out of office a few years back for corruption.

Once you've been a corrupt MP, you ALWAYS wanna be a corrupt MP.

Welcome back, Andrew Baing. I'm sure the stupid people of Markham valley will re-elect you!

Andrew Baing and John Kaputin have run outta money, that's why they're both contesting after so many years out of power.

In our own country, all the former corrupt pollies take one look at the comeback success of Julius Chan, and they reckon that they too might get a new opportunity to steal.

LAE CITY HALL- A SHAME

April 5 2012, 2:42 PM

How come Lae City Council has come that low to borrow K200,000 soft loan from a Construction Company

Is it because Bart Philimon can not affort to spare K200,000 for Lord Major James Khay and his councellors or was that a plot to take money from private company for their own use?

No wonder the same construction company has been given easy access to purchase a prime land in the heart of city - What a Corruption !

LAE City , watch out for Bart and James and don't give any votes They don't deserve even your second and third preference votes

United we stand, divided we fall, the saying goes. If you don't believe in this we are day dreaming. Let's get our interlectuals in as a block and see what happens. My belief is that if they can all work collectively we are sure in for success. Divided we will fail miserably to a point where anarchy be the rule. We have to make the sacrifice now for a change. Nothing changes if we cling onto the past. Change is what we want.
