Schools to get K200m before polls PM

By KOLOPU WAIMA

Prime Minister Peter O'Neill announced that the second phase of the K700 trillion fee-free education will be released before PNG goes for polls.

He made the announcement at Hood Lagoon, Kaepara, Rigo District in Central Province last Saturday.
He said the Government will be releasing K200 million soon.

Mr O'Neill said the O'Namah government has made education its priority and introduced fee-free education this year and will continue to do so in years to come.

He said the government has budgeted K1 billion for this year where K100 million has already been released with K900 million to be released soon to ensure smooth running of schools.

Mr O'Neill said education is the only area where it will change the mindset of people to develop the country as well as to influence local and international leaders.

He said he had travelled to all remote areas of the provinces in the country where no one had travelled and the story remains the same - services not reaching every corner of the country.

Mr O'Neill said the main reason why services are not reaching the rural areas was mismanagement, theft, and government money being set aside to buy votes in the upcoming election, all of which drags service delivery.

He thanked the people of Keapara and their local MP and Foreign Affairs Minister Ano Pala for opening five double classrooms (ten classrooms) at the same time and promised them K1 billion if he comes back as PM after the election.

He said Hood Lagoon has done what many provinces have not.

The Prime Minister gave his assurance on continuing fee-free education so that students are not denied their rights to education and projected that over K100 trillion would be spent by his government on education the first yeaer after he is returned as PM following the elections.
