Bonney Oveara! ........don't know about the guys back home but current MP is doing fine compared to past MPs. We don't really need a smart, outspoken person whom we can boast about to lead us but a wise servant who can really get down to business, get his hands dirty and make a difference for the district and the simple majority.....
Making assertions without justification is a very shallow way of making comparisons. If JKM can justify (list, discuss) Bonny Oveyara's achievement compared to past MPs and how Mr Oveyara can do better than what he is doing now will provide a better forum for duscussion.
Hello All Apos and fans of Goroka Secondary School
There has been some well orgainised awareness by ex students of Goroka Sec to build the fire ravaged science lab.
So far, we had a open day at Ela Beach Inter, a dance at Country Club and individual donations to a "trust' account.
Now i heard they'll be a dinner at the dynasty restaurent in POM. This fundraising activities are great however, there is no financial report out yet for the public especially the one's supporting the cause to see.
Can the committee headed by Mr.Edward Omenefa disclose how much has been raised so far?
You talk highly of this coward (sitting MP)who is a fool as you are cause you do not understand how he is misleading all the people of Okapa. We need vibrant & energetic leader who can really talk and move Okapa in the District, National and why not in the internation Level. We need people who can speak the same language as the other politicians and donors who can co ordinate with each other to bring tangible changes into our District. So whoever you maybe, can you stop leting the blind lead you? You might both fall and into the same ditch?
If you are educated, than understand and speak in a high profile way in which we all vote out the intending candidates who are not capable of leading us into the next mellenium cause we cannot forever carry our fellow politicians briefcase just because we cannot speak up for our selves therefore we are only obliged to say yes master.
Do away now with this recycled politicians and send someone new who is knowledgeable with intergrity and has no fear for anyone and can speak upright on the floor of paliament.
For far too long Okapian leaders (and EHP) that are mandated seem to be followers at the national political front. when will okapians elect leaders (who can can lead other leaders) that can open up and debate or be heard on the floor (parliament). Are we short of SAVEMAN that we everytime are electing community leadership. Support our educated elite!!!!
We need candidates who cannot become a cause for division among people, but at the same time are charismatic...
Look at pngscape's majority silent people if for some reason you think that educated elites are automatically leaders. The fact is, very few are. Look around at other highly educated MPs who haven't made a mark on parliament or their electorate. You're going up the wrong tree if you think that people automatically become leaders by way of education.
So can we list names of alternative member for Okapa besides Bonny Oveyara?
From what I heard;
1. Isacc Waigabara- Businessman and associate of Jeffery Nape from Ofafina village, who came third in the last election.
2. Tom Amukele-Former member and Moresby based businessman
3. William XX-from Yasubi village who also contested the last election. Don't know about his qualification/trade but heard that he is a businessman.
4. Wevin Hofa Seiyu-OIC at Nupuru Health Centre from Woyoepa village. He contested in 2002
Please add, and if you have your canditate tell me/us why I/we should vote for your candidate.
What? Nothing but corrupt businessmen? With all the people in that electorate, surely there are candidates whose first priority isn't to put money into their personal pockets?!?!!!!! That's what businessmen DO for a living - that's how they think.
They're the WORST to be effective leaders and the BEST candidates for corruption!!!!!
try some well educate people like Igitava Yoviga from purosa village,John Igitoi From Ivingoi,Apo Mathias and some more to be named.try those educated ones and see how they go.just a liklik napiena tasol.wari blo upla.pigoe
Whose been feeding you with dungs? Leadership is something that can be acquired thru learning and wealth too can make you become a leader. This has always been the case. If you use the knowledge to provide solutions to the peoples problems, they will look to you. Doesn't that make you are leader. Also with wealth, if you use your wealth to bring someone out of misery, they will look to you.
Alot of great leaders spend hours after hours practicing in front of mirrors - eg Hitler. Its not always true that leadership comes naturally.
It has been a dooms day for the last 10 years or so in Okapa!
Public service delivery and public funds for Okapa electorate has been missused for the last 25 years. There has been unequal distribution of services and favoritism has existed in our electorate for the last 25 years from elected parliamentarians. People have been left out totally,
more particularly on transport infrustructure, health and education services developments.
It seems Elected members of Okapa for the last 20 years or so, lack planning and management skills to properly and adequately sustain the basic services for the people.
To be honest, we have been electing uneducated MPs who do not know how to use the words; "HOW, WHY, WHEN, WHAT, and even IF" to make plans, manage, identify the problems and resought to avenues that provide resources to help aleviate existing issues.
Our former elected members (for the last 10 years) lack the understanding of how the bearucratic system flows and lack the knowledge on public management and administrative processes with the benefit of the current existing government reform processes and stratergies to address political issues in their electorates.
It seems that their operational cosst has been a liability on the expense of the people of Okapa.
Hope this time around, we have seen where we have gone wrong and are sending out best Okapian son/brother into parliament for 2012 - 2017 who can voice our concerns.
Should the government make legislation for entry requirements (minimum qualification requirements) for contesting political posts in parliamentary elections?
This should help by prevent coffee buyers and alike to contest Okapa Open seat which normally go to parliament and make up numbers to form unstable governments.
If so, potential Okapians will still qualify well above the minimum entry requirements!!
Another occasion has just come by and the people have had their say on who will lead them for the next 5 years. Whether it be fulfilling or empty, it will come to pass...no choice.
It is indeed sad to say that our people who actually provide the mandate often seem ignorant, lack the ability, are probably faced with cohesion and intimidation, are enticed into, or simply follow blood-line in their say to choose national representation. It's for any one or really for the combination of the possibilities said above that time and again, leadership akin to local community leadership is elected. These subjects without choice take back-stage at the national level; often loosing face-value come discussions on important national and local issues at that forum (National Parliament).
We need to start talking real Okapian patriotism (with respect to leadership quality) within our respective communities so that leaders that our people mandate are articulate, influential among their peer, amply educated to address both local as well as national issues....Enough of electing spectators at national level.
