Confirmed election deferred to 6 months

April 5 2012, 7:59 PM

Papua New Guinea has been from time to time experienced unexpected turbulence, natural disasters, economic downfalls, leadership tribunals, political scandals, just to name a few. Today's parliament sitting has turn the eyes of PNG citizens and the Commonwealth Nations that it has unfolded another proof to the so called 'land of the unexpected'. In PNG politics, you expect the same treatment you give to your rival politicans. The O'neil's Government is no different and has paid back it debt in due course by postponding the National Election by another six months. This is another strategy to remain on the throne inorder to grow bigger in terms of cronies and wealth. It has took the parliament chamber by surprise but many would say it has gone down well as payback. Since the O'neil regime has rulled for only 8 months, its tummy is far yet to be satisfied with the PNG 'het blo papa'. The reasons are clear and soon or later Electrol Commissioner ASTrawen will face the consequence. He is just a simple man working hard to earn his bread and butter, however in PNG politics, you expect the unexpected. Eventually the bug will pass on the Commissioner. O'neil, as seen by many from a neutral perspective, is playing a game to dust the seat off Trawen. He could have done that earlier like any other changes to departmental heads, however he has to prove his innocence to the people of Ialibu Pangia and the rest of PNG that let time alone decides. Hence, today's decision has sent a clear signall that A.S.Trawen has lost his attributes. It will be again in the best interest of the NEC to quickly act in the gap to appoint a like minded Comissioner to do the dirty laundry of the so called O'neil regime. Salute Mr. A Trawen for a job well done! To the wider community, PNG will be again rated corrupt in Politics and the Democracy of the people have been sold to the minority (MP's) who voted for today's decision. It was a slap in the face not only of the Australian Government who have funded heavily for PNG in this years election, but also to the commonwealth nations for its failure to meet deadlines. Locally, it has shattered the dreams of those intending candidates who resigned from their different works of life as required by the Law to qualify for the battle. Would they sue the Minister assisting the Prime Minister (Hon. Wake Goi) for misleading the Nation? Would they sue the Government for flat lies? As the saying goes as far as the highest mountain and the deepest ocean, PNG is truely the Land of the unexpected.

Nope, you're in the wrong country. Majority does NOT rule in PNG. Instead, it is the corrupt minority who now runs the show.

Well, they're not the same person because I only wrote 1 of those postings. Your reply doesn't even try to debate reasonably. Instead, you "decide"' that posters who share the same opinion are the same. Stop imagining things without evidence and stop writing about the messnger. Worry instead about the message and debating that.

Well mate, I've been 'standing by' (as you suggest) for more than a year to hear critical debates on pngscape and I have hardly found one yet!

We're too isolated from the rest of the world - what we think are high standard critical debates are ranked as 'rubbish' in other lands. We're the ones who wanted to join the outside world so we've gotta start lifting ourselves up so we can compete with the outside world.

Right now our standards of writing, reasoning, learning, etc are horribly low. Really, really low. There is no such thing as 'educated elite' in PNG!

I think you have gone too far. I partially agree to your very last phrases. But this is not the point. The idea is; if someone has something to bring forward in this forum, they have to think a little more than the first thought that normally comes up in the mind everytime they see a challenge. I sometimes feel angry when I see people express their frustrations in a way that is unacceptabe. May be better you put yourself in the place of the opponent and figure out how it would affect him. This would make you write something sensible rather than things like 'yu go holim blong **** by 'anon'. Another thing is not to feel down by comparing yourself with the rest of the world. If you start doing this, I tell you wont make it to be in the world of competition. And as PN Guinean we must be proud of ourselves because we are advancing forward in terms of Education & Technology. There is absolutely more educated elites in PNG then you can imagine. You are an educated elite, dont you?. Critical debates are not very difficult; you dont need very expensive english; its about telling the forum why you support an idea or a candidate of your choice and argument with concrete evidence to disperse negativities that may arise in your debate. In other words you may need to know more about a candidate's credentials prior to raising your hand here instead of a single sentence and off you go.

PNG Political System is Corrupt

April 8 2012, 11:02 AM

Many analysts say Papua New Guinea is in danger of political and economic collapse. The country's political system is unstable, the crime rate has soared, corruption is rampant, and essential services including health care and education continue to decline. It is estimated that still 70% of the Population is living in poverty. What does this tell the Commonwealth of Nations? PNG's rich Natural Resources has put the country into the economic boom basket. Many potential investors are eyeing into PNG as their number one preference. However, politically it is very sad to see that corruption is rampant. Parliament had recently removed the Powers of the Judical arm of Government. This has not gone down well in the minds of Papua New Guinean citizens as their last hope of democracy has been shattered. And while the issue was still on intense debate in PNG by different organizations and groups, yet Parliament has passed another vote in favour of Post -ponding the 2012 National Election by another six months. The government has once again ignored the civil socisty rights to stand up against the Judical Bill. The students from different tertiary institutions have spoken against the Bill, yet it turned a blind eye on them. Instead, the 'sugar daddy' reiterated that the Bill is before the Law Reform Commission for delibaration. This would take nine months. During the course of meditating on the outcome, Chief Justic Sir Salamo Injia and his like-minded Justic Nicholas Kirriwom were held against their positions to the come controversal court due to be rulled in favour of Sir Michael Somare. However, it is understood that the Judicery Arm of the Government have stood in unision and have received support from all over the world to stand firm and uphold the Integrity of Law for the betterment of PNG. Meanwhile, Trade Union Congress have organized a Nation Wide Protest to be staged on Tuesday 10th April to petition the government to rescind its decision to post-pone the election. It is also assumed that Candidates wishing to contest the 2012 election are organizing a meeting straight after the march to seek legal advice on how to go about suing the state for its 'lying tongue'.

All that you have written is even more evidence that our judiciary system is as biased and corrupt as parliament. So why are you supporting one over the other?

You must live overseas. The economy isn't even close to collapsing, it's booming. Or are you blind?

Stop being rhetorical like O'Neill and start sticking to the facts. Otherwise you sound as bad as O'Neill does.

Pastor Tommy, good to see you come up with such a topic. You labelled PNG as the 'most corrupt country'. This is a very interesting topic for discussion but does not meet the purpose of Network 54. However, you can still argue here provided that your opinion is a reason for the delay of National Election by six months. If so can you provide evidence as to support your judgement? Inorder to provide a concrete evidence, I suggest you provide facts and figures.

Observer, he doesn't provide evidence for anything he says because he has no evidence. His brain is essentially as empty as a Waigani flat where the tenant has been kicked out and the place completely cleaned out of furniture, curtains, fridge, everything.

That is what the inside of Pastor Tommy's mind looks like. Empty from wall to wall.

Just use him as a source of entertainment like I do because it has become obvious that the only real replies he ever gets to his postings are him using a different pen name and replying to himself.
