Enga Regional Status

June 19 2012 at 1:37 PM
Enga Political Analyst

Few days away from the Polling now....and this is the analysis of Enga Regional Candidates.

1. Hon. Ipatas

He is no doubt POPULAR. he does not need introduction. all engans know him. whether knowing one is good or bad is a different issue. He still remains popular. But is it hard to tell where exactly he is collecting votes. He used to enjoy wide support, and in most cases he receives blocked votes. But in this election, it is hard to tell if this will reoccur. In Wapenamanda, Kandep,Laigaip/Porgera...he not that popular. He lost his votes in these areas when he worked against fellow Engas like R. Rimbao, P. Kakarya and D. Polye in other national issues.
In his own turf [Wabag district], he does not seem to do well. I wish he could, but sadly he does not seem to do well. there are two equally rich and powerful candidates cheap away his support in central and upper wabag. the vocal one amongst them is Minapi, and Lorma Korakan - both equally rich and influential. and in the lower wabag, a student candidate [Elvis wamir Toke] is choking Ipatas.

2. Talita/Minapi/Toke/Lorma

With Ipatas' wings being irreparably clipped - other candidates are having a field day. The four equally hot candidates are:

(a). Sandy Talita: a Leader in his own right, with many years of experience in the resource industry. He hails from the Lower Lai region of Wapenamanda. His base vote is along the lower-lai basin that stretches to Kompiam. Since is he endorsed by "the party" man [Polye], he is expected to collect more than 50% of the votes Polye collects in Kandep. With these areas being his support votes, he has a wide appeal.....even collecting votes from within IRELYA - Ipatas' own living room! and that should be worrying for anyone.
(b). Minapi seems to have a dual purpose in this election. One, to ensure that Ipatas looses. Two, to replace him. But i would n ot be wrong if i said, the former reason is becoming more apparent than the later. the other candidates a 'quite' but Minapi is pumping in resource left, right, and centered, all aimed at making sure that Gove Ipatas looses this time. As Wabag vote is divided, he is sure to collect as good as Ipatas, Toke and Lorma. But if someone really hits he pig on the know [Ipatas], it would be because Minapi actually "encroaching and litfing" up the pig!
(c). Although Toke is not as powerful and influential as the other 4 candidates, is seems to be doing quite well. He is blocking off the populous Yakan clan. Since the Yakan clan shares borders with Wapenamanda and Kombiam, there is a "waimir" fever in Enga. There is rumour that the Wapendamanda votes and R. RImbao's votes along minaba are courting the young student. If true, he might turn out to be the black horse. also, the Kandepens are divided cos Polye's own son is looting for his fellow student [against his dates endorsement of Talita]. along with Talita, he seems to be enjoying a wide support in Kompiam and Porgera.
(d). Lorma: Rich and powerful, yet a faithful church-goer and husband of one wife, Kenneth Korakali, is hot for many good reasons. He is rich, just as Minapi, Ipatas and Talita. But unlike them, he is the only one that seems to have a 'good name' - unstained by the political corruption of Enga/PNG. His candidacy is widely received and supported by many. Also, becaue of his abuntant resource, he is actually going into all pockets of Enga and campaigning. he is definitely collecting much of upper wabag votes, and he is dividing with Toke the Ambum votes.........and he is also collecting Kombiam votes. In Laigam along with Torato and Piari, is is collecting a good number of votes there. It is also rumoured that he is collecting a significant number of votes in Porgera, and Paiala area. In Paiyala country of Enga he is diving the votes with Toke. Althouh, Ipatas, Minapi and Talita are making "waves", only Lorma is the "still waters" that run deep.

Here is my conclusion:

****Enga loves money. they allow money to have a sway over their votes. and if they do this time again, It is Talita or Lorma's game.
****Also, in Enga most of the results have been due to malpratice at the counting room. If that repeats again, Ipatas may pull this thing off. [But to repeat this, the current Enga PPC might be a thorn in the Ipatas' flesh]
****If Enga says, we have had enough of the money thing, they may go for the the student [Yakan Toke].

Over to you guys out there......

Engans are leaders by default! Any body is capable of the governorship. Its not a birth right or private issue for this couple.

@nationalist
your are correct. but the issue is not about Enga's POTENTIAL to be the governor, but the reality on the ground. all who are putting their hands up are capable leaders who in their own right. and if elected, they all could make great governors. But sadly, the contenders appear to be the ones discussed by Mr. Analyst.

although, i have my own preferences, i generally agree with the above analysis.

Re: Enga Regional Status

good analysis, but there is one issue though;

the anit-ipatas feeling among engans is real, true and obvious. and even if he were to, lets say literally buy off Rimbao and other candidates, people would burn his money before his eyes. This reality leads us to wonder whether Engans are just against Ipatas and his money or "money" in general. Assuming, they are not only against Ipatas but also against the idea of "selling" their votes, then that restricts money's ability to influence the ballots. This might probably mean that Talita and Lorma's money might also be rejected along with Ipatas' $900,000,000! (that was his total asset in the last election. but he might be using only one million this time around...lol).

Such attitude might might work well for the Student candidate. His popularity is real. although he is not as rich, famous and popular as the other giants, the "waimir fever" is contagious. i also hear rumours of:

- Minapi having a meeting with Toke
- Not only Polye's son agressively campaigning for Toke, but Hon. Polye also bought a car and gave it to Toke. Thus, Polye seem to be wavering between Talita and Waimir Toke.
- Rimbao, Torato, and Balakau have been publicly heard making public statements in favor of Toke; and pledged their second votes to him.
- Apart from Pundari, nearly all Kombiam-Ambum candidates have invited Elvis Waimir Toke in their rallies.

If this is any indication, then it could be that Enga has had enough with Money, fame and riches. There seem to be a deeper yawning for real leadership. real change. Let us just wait and see if money wins this time.

Engan people too "emotional" and never think properly

June 25 2012, 8:31 PM

Thank you Enga Political Analyst for you analysis.I am very shocked at this emotional posting by so called engan intellectuals who lack substance in their analysis of a leader. Just because you cried at some young man's political rally doesn't mean that he is a leader. A leader is a person with proven track record of leadership. We would not want another Tom Olga in the highlands. Engans need to look carefully at the analysis made by engan political analyst and make our decisions. We have a leader Lorma. Vote the man and Enga will never regret.

Re: Engan people too "emotional" and never think properly

June 26 2012, 12:41 AM

logic and reason "eduate" the mind, which in turn forms the basis for a "decision" (a change of heart). But it is the "emotions" that eventually moves an educated and an informed individual to finally rally behind an agenda, philosophy, or, in this case, a candidate. So it is utterly foolish for one to assume that "emotions" have no role in a decision-making process.

So a candidate being being successful in a business adventure does not necessarily translate into a good leadership. Business management skills and political leaderships are two totally different enterprise. For instance, the aim of any business venture is to:

a. maximize profit, b. invest only in areas where you can reap benefit, c. avoid being generous, d. one is less interested 'other people's affiars.

But in politics, one must spent his life, resources and comforts in and towards the well-being of others. It looks out for the prosperity of those who supported and did not support you. Giving and sharing, not greed and selfishness is the platform on which politics operate.

And so fellow Engans you vote in a practising businessman (in this case Lorma, MM, and ST) - like what we have done with PI the last 17 years - and they will bring in their cultivated "enterprenual skills". They will go from being "millioniares" to "billioniares"! That is why at this time they are SPENDING money, busily buying votes, dashing out tens of thousands of kina. To them, this is their "investment", and once they get into parliament - they will reap benefits. Fellow engans we have learned enough. Vote in a fresh student. a student who obviously has the heart for the people, and obviously possess great leadership skills!

Anyway, either way is a risk we all must take: vote in a business man with proven greed and selfishness skills or a potential student with no experience. Its like voting in a devil you "know" or an "unknown" person who might become a devil. I can't speak for others, but i'd rather vote for a promising candidate!

All the regional candidates have spent millions but Lorma hasn't spent any money.I doubt if he really is a millionaire has mentioned by enga political analyst. People have gone to Sandy Talita's pig killing,Mathew Minapi's pig killing but i for one have never heard about the so called millionaire spending any of his money.

July 5 2012, 1:28 PM

I am not from Enga and I might not know the reason būt what kind of leader is Enga looking if Ipatas has done alot.

Ipatas has built Enga's human resource through free education and now Engan got more intellectuals in the country than any other Provincēs in all sector.

You talk about investment, Enga Provincial Government owns many of those skyscrapers in down town Port Moresby. This will contribute money back to develop Enga.

Look at Enga Mioks, they don't look for sponsorship like we other highlands provinces. Mioks have everything players and officials would look for.

Election is all about choosing a right leader and its hard to find a quality leader. If Ipatas can do all this things, what kind of a leader than is Enga looking for?

Don't be like other highlands provinces.

Theres nothing so significant

July 6 2012, 11:58 AM

Free edcuation is not a political tool that politicians can use it to lure the minds and hearts of people.

Just imagine if all Papua New Guineans are edcuated well to the level where we understand the importance of leadership and the roles the leaders should play.

And also most of the Papua New Guineans are still living in the stone age and have never exposed to government basic goods and services.

Because of the poor status and the lack of education of the people, our aspiring leaders continue to convince and manipulate our uneducated people of something that is unrealistic and also something, for instance like basic subsidised education which is a must for any government. They continue to take advantage of poor governance to tell the people that they have done something the government can not do.

The government has the capacity to provide all the basic goods, services and infrastructural developments to all the provinces so that all population can benefit. However, because PNG with its lack of quality and descern education continue to be prone to corrupt money and elect in the wrong people who are foolish and have no vision to develop the nation.

Lets think outside of the box, meaning in a broader sense. Should Enga and PNG to talk about the same old things over and over??????????????

I don't think so...

By the way what is so special about Ipatas education???

Please someone explain in a more precise and concrete terms please??????????

Where've all these so called riches and big men been when Tindiwi Danly led Enga into the ditch back in 1990s???? Where they still in their mothers womb or in any leadership training aiming for this election? I am certain Peter Ipatas made Enga proud in many aspects.Peter's Vision is that in 10 years time Enga will control this nation. Such vision these rich men don't have.

Guys leadership is not defined and measured with riches and wealths. Leadership is defined as 'someone who has an HEART for his people' and that's Peter Ipatas only. There's no one in ENGA who is like Peter Ipatas.

Come on guys..swallow your pride & jealousy and leave this Action Governor alone.

Bro, you are defending because there's a candidate condesting for this seat that you are supporting. The vision that I meant was in 'investment in education.' This is the fact. You cannot deny this. Even the people from other provinces or nations will admit that what Peter Ipatas doing is in the best interest of the people he represent.

In May when Peter Ipatas went to pay school fee for UPNG, the VC admitted by saying 'Inorder for a country to prosper, investment in education is the way'

Probably you are currently obsorbed in Engan politics and can't understand now but will understand later that what Ipatas was doing is correct.

Bro, don't be over jealous and hatred. Preserve some brain cells to understand and positively evaluate and appreciate where is due. Eradicate this Engan mentality of trying to destroy the good things Peter Ipatas has done. ENGA WILL NEVER PROSPER SHOULD WE AS INTERLECTUALS CONTINUE TO SUBDUE AND DISCREDIT OUR LEADERS EFFORT TO CHANGE ENGA.

A Leader is God Appointed

July 10 2012, 7:19 PM

I always appreciate the sons of Enga. Engans should be proud of our leaders.
Like Don Polye, he is a leader by default who is a successive government former/shifter ( The pivot of the Parliament).
Honorable Peter Ipatas is the only role model and the action governor ranked among others in the country who speaks with action.
Sam Abal, John Pundari, and Philiph Kiakala are also well-known leaders in the country whose decisions change the country's courses and direction in one way or the other in their rights.
But the Wapenamanda MP, Miki Kaiok was very very silent for the last 10 years of being in the parliament.
Apart from parliamentarians, we have highly respected and renowned persons like Sir Salamo Injia the CJ, and Fred Yakasa. Their successful decisions have brought stability into the nation until to this very time were the polling and the counting of the votes is successful.
All these are proud Engan sons. Why are we Engans complaining then appreciating them for their rightful tasks?
Please as Engans we must appreciate them for they are God appointed leaders wether they do wrong.
They have impact in the country. Now the country is looking for an proud Engan Son.

Prominent leaders and politicians of Enga need to educate your peoples stupidity.
