Aihi’s switch irks Kairuku- Hiri people
THE decision by Kairuku Hiri MP Paru Aihi to move to the Government and align with the People’s National Congress suddenly has caused anxiety among the simple people of the Kairuku Hiri electorate.
But most affected are the councillors and ward members of whom 50 have written a letter to the Prime Minister and Parliamentary Leader of the People’s National Congress to endorse a local man whom they claim to be the leader who will represent them in the next five years. Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and his People’s National Congress Party executives’ decision to accept Mr Aihi as one of their Government MPs has also angered more the local councillors who signed and sent a letter to the PM and PNC Party Parliamentary Leader to endorse a candidate they have worked on for many years.
LLG councillors of Hiri, Mekeo, Koiari, Tubusereia, or specific wards from Bereina, Yule islands or specific Wards have detested to the PM’s choice of accepting Mr Aihi. PNC Party last night advised they will response in due course.
Aihi moves to O’Neill’s party to deliver services
By CALDRON LAEPA
Southern region leader of the Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare-led National Alliance party, Paru Aihi has left the party to join Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s People’s National Congress party.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill announced this on Wednesday.
Mr Aihi confirmed his defection from the National Alliance Party, saying it was something he had to do because of his people.
“Let me say that I have defected not for my personal gain but for the people of Kairuku-Hiri,” Mr Aihi said.
Mr Aihi won the Kairuku-Hiri seat in the 2007 election, defeating former MP Sir Moi Avei who held the office for three terms as a PNG Party candidate.
He was one of the outspoken stalwart opposition MPs under the leadership of State Enterprise Minister Sir Mekere Morauta.
He later joined the National Alliance Government led by Sir Michael Somare and was shortly made Minister for Higher Education Science Research and Technology last March and lost the ministry after August 2, 2011 political coup on the floor of Parliament.
Following that event, Mr Aihi was elevated to the position of deputy Party leader (Southern Region), and Minister for Higher Education Science, Research and Technology and Foreign Affairs and Trade in Somare- led Cabinet.
Mr Aihi thanked Sir Michael and the National Alliance Government for their confidence in him by elevating him through various portfolios.
His defection now leaves the National Alliance Party without any Southern Region MPs.
He said his electorate was a very big electorate that had been neglected by former leaders, thus much of the infrastructure service had deteriorated.
He said he was concerned about delivering goods and services to the people of his electorate therefore had decided to align himself with the Government of the day to deliver to his people.

Congrats Mr Aihi. You are representing the whole of Kairuku Hiri not the ones that voted you in. Please do not be bias in service delivery. We need better roads, schools and clinics. We Motuans need basic services just as Mekeos and Kairukus. Over to you |

giving special people chance to get rich!

Why should he do any work delivering any services. You've given him the once in a lifetime opportunity to become a multimillionaire and I'm sure he's already gotten to work figuring out how he's going to be come rich for life.
Services for the people? Don't be silly. If he uses this 5 years wisely, it doesn't matter if you vote him back again or not. He'll be set for life. |

The reason why this awful stuff continues is that the voters never put pressure on their MPs to NOT live in POM and NOT run off all the time doing secret deals.
It will happen over and over again unless we start following our responsibilities as citizens of a democratic country.
Who's to blame for this "good fella gone bad"? We can all look in the mirror!!!! |

Some information on Hon Paru Aihi.
Hon Paru Aihi was a businessman before he stood for election and becaome an MP.
He owns the Delstar Security company plus other small ventures in Pt Moresby.
So he did not stand for election to become a millionaire.
Who knows he may already be a millionaire before he became an MP.
He is a deacon of the Hisiu United Church so he goes home every weekend to attend church service.
This does not make him a saint you are looking for but hopefully gives you more grounds to critique more.

How many more times does it have to be said on pngscape: Some of the worst thieves are PNG businessmen who are already rich. They have a hunger for making money, more money is never enough money, and once they get into the new environment where its very easy to steael money THEY FOLLOW THEIR OLD TENDENCIES and just apply the old ways of making money to new opportunities.
Julius Chan and Peter Yama were already rich when they became pollies but look what they did anyway?
Please stop using this tired old logic because there is heaps of evidence to show that you're WRONG! |
