Hi Everyone,

This is a photo of an injected skin piece before being sent out. Quite a few have asked about thinskin on the forum and in email that have never worn them before. There are of course the pros and cons list between skin and lace, but this at least gives those that aren't familiar with skin an idea of how injection ventilation looks on a piece.

I parted it in the middle to show how the ventilation and scalp will show up when applied to your head, this is just set on my arm to mimic how it will look on a scalp:

Hi Twopee,

This was brought up in another thread a while back about how the skin hairlines lay "flatter" than lace. I only have photos of uncut skin hairlines before being sent out, which won't do any good. "Enrique" posted these photos of an old piece bought back before he became a customer of mine and switched to a lace piece. Again, this particular piece was not from me but he wanted to show what he was able to achieve with his skin hairline:

Thanks Eric.
Unfortuanatly it doesn't show the actual hairline too clearly.
I am more interested in how the actual skin blends and also the hairline itself.
Do any posters have good hairline skin shots they would wish to share?

It looks great!!! I think my next piece will be a thin skin, they are super easy to take care of, easy on,easy off..I used them for years without any issues, the hairline is not as great as a lace but it also depends on the ventilation and density. In my case I do not comb my hair straight back so a 100% natural looking hairline would not matter as much with the kind of hairstyles I wear. I have done a "mohawk" with a skin unit and it looked great!!!

A pic of a skin unit, not the best as the hairline is not in closeup...but you can have an idea on how a skin unit looks at the hairline, sorry about the strange hair style...

Thank you for sharing that photo Enrique, do you find that you have to use product to get the injection ventilation to stay back?

Here are a couple of close up photos of the v-loop ultra thinskin stocks before I sent them out. These are not cut in and the excess skin is still attached.

This is the .03 ultra thinskin, which is so thin it can only be v-loop ventilated because injection would tear it. The excess skin you see in the front (under my fingers) will give you an idea of how thin the base actually is.

V-looping allows the hair to go back much easier than injection, but it's personal preference like anything else...some love injection and some swear by v-looping.

Sorry the 2nd photo is black and white, but it was sitting on a plastic mold that caused the flash to reflect so bad that it was hard to view it in color:

Interesting to see, what is the best bond to use for skin? For a very firm hold..

Thanks for the photos!
The thin skin looks shiney with the flash, does it look that way when worn?

Hi Twopee,

No, not at all....like I was mentioning above the photo, it was sitting on a clear plastic mold (in the bottom picture) and it caused the flash to reflect brightly was all. That's why I had to change it to black and white. It's not a great example with it being on a plastic mold, but I wanted to try and get as many photo samples up as I could to help you see the hairline. If you look at Enrique's photo above, it does not reflect a flash against the skin...you can see right into his scalp.

Thanks,
Eric

I used Dermatex, some people swear they can wear it for more than 2 weeks...but I guess it depends on your body, not everyone is the same..I use to wear it for just a week at a time, I have oily skin so the oil breaks down the bond faster which i had no issue with...the skin units are easy to take care of and in a matter of minutes it was back on!!

In addition to Dermatex Enrique mentioned, some have mentioned that the Davlyn black glue works great. There is also a customer that told me he uses tape, but uses a scalp protector on the skin to form a barrier between the skin and the tape so that there is no damage at removal. Hopefully someone can comment on the tapes that they have used, I know you definitely want to use a lighter hold/non residue type of tape if at all because tapes can be tough to remove from skin.

Also, the Got 2 Be Glued freeze spray has been recommended for the shorter term holds.

I wore 2inch lace with a skin system for years , i used tape and with hole puncher put holes on tape so alcohol or pure could help release tape if needed, i just found skin pieces hair laying to flat for me.Regards LB

LB....Single hair knots will not lay flat. Or at least the one's I've been wearing. But you're right, some injected skins will . Been wearing them for years and I can style any ole which way, especially, small single knots with guaze reenforced polyurethane base.

Flat, pompadour, straight up vertically if I wanted to, would look a little weird tho :), especially at my age !

I have one of Eric's skin units, but been to busy to cut it in and give a quick report here, hopefully by the end of the week ? When I ordered it, I forgot to order my usual scalloped front ( senior moment ) :) So ordered a pair of serrated blade scissors out of China, so I could cut in my own scalloped front.....the scissors took for ever to get here, so thats the main reason why I have not cut this skin unit in.

Just like Enrique says.........Easy on Easy Off with a skin ! :)

Thanks for all this great info. everyone. Although I've never been a fan of combining bases for my own pieces, the other thing that can be done is a skin base w/ a lace front to get that good lift at the hairline.

These photos are from an ultra thinskin base (.03mm) stock piece w/ a 1" french lace front in a 90% density. The one thing that seems to make this join work is that it's a scalloped join so that there isn't that straight "edge" where the materials meet. The ventilation on the skin is v-looping. I parted it in the middle and put it on my hand to show the realistic scalp look:
