Removing glue residue from lace - mirror slide revisited

One of the things I learned from reading old forum posts that I never would have thought of on my own is the "mirror slide" for removing glue residue from the lace base. To veteran wearers, this is probably very old news, but worth revisiting for any new wearers who may not have heard of this.

It works like this: after removing your piece, slide the base down a mirror (like the bathroom mirror) while pressing down lightly. As the base slides accross the mirror, much of the gummy residue will stick to the mirror. Keep repeating until most of the residue is removed from the base.

The first time I tried this I thought "this is great...it gets the glue off the lace base, but now my mirror is a freaking mess!!" So what I do now is tape a piece of saran wrap onto the mirror, and slide the piece across the saran wrap instead of the mirror. When done, just throw the saran wrap away.

I guess you could actually tape the saran wrap onto anything, not just a mirror....

Great stuff SpikeyMike...an "oldie but goodie" tip. I think most veterans are so used to this one that we forget to pass it on every so often. I haven't heard this tip talked about in a very long time!

I just use a page from an old magazine. 2 slides per page and just toss it out.

Back when I used glue, I would use my small hand held mirror that I check the back of my piece with...then I'd just use Pure adhesive remover to get rid of it.

These disposable ideas sound a lot less time consuming though...just use plastic or paper and throw it out.

another way is to use a micro fiber towel on the front
lace only as it graps the tape mess. then use mirror.
after mirror looks a total mess. try windex to
clean up the old glues with a micro fiber towel.
its so.fast and easy
