Sister-in-law woes

My sister-in-law (here-to-for SIL) and her husband move into their first house; my neighborhood. I'm very happy for them and help them with the 'move' thing (I didn't even try to make excuses to get out of it).

For context, let me add that they are not spring chickens: He's 56, she's 52. Nor am I so springly chickeny at 48.

So for a whole long weekend (Fri-Sat-Sun) I help them move from their apartment on the east side of town to their new house on the west side of town. We got all of it done; everything moved hither to yon; just not put away properly: that's a Monday job and they'd love my help if I can manage. I reluctantly agreed (reluctant because all the heavy upstairs stuff was still downstairs).

So taking a day off from the job on Monday (an off-day well-due but not, I thought, too likely to be well-spent, I show up at their new place early Monday only to find SIL alone; hubby had an emergency and had to take off from his pseudo house-move vacation.

"He's not here?"

"His boss called him. There's a problem with something that he has to fix. He said to tell you he's sorry and he'll make other arrangements with the furniture."

"Oh...okay," I responded, trying to hide my dichotomy of pissed-off and relieved. "But is there anything I can help with, since I'm already here?"

"I don't think I'd be much help getting this stuff upstairs. How about I make you breakfast instead. I feel bad about wasting your time."

Okay, I'm a big breakfast lover and she's a good cook, so..., "Coffee would be fine, unless you're going to cook something for yourself anyway."

"Well, yes I was. I was about to make bacon, eggs, grits, toast. All for myself. I'm glad you're here to help me eat it. I just have to run upstairs for a shower first. Would you like to help me?"

"Help with the breakfast?" I asked?

"No, with the shower."
