Before I continue, I will tell you that I do believe the Bible and have submitted to the only authority I consider trustworthy: Jesus Christ. That being said...
The problem with "Christianity is that the "Church" got a hold of it.
An example: In the time of Copernicus, the Church threatened anyone with excommunication who would consider the fact that the Earth revolves around the sun. We all know now that Copernicus was right.
Science tells us that the rocks which make up the Terra Firma we call earth, are millions of years old. The "Church" says this is not so and point to the chronology of one Bishop Usher who calculated that the earth was created in or around 4004 b.c. These calculations were taken from the point in creation where God said "Let there be light". (Genesis 1:3)
What the good bishop did not consider (and most "Christians" along with him) is that we are not told what amount of time had transpired between the events of Genesis 1:3 and the events of the previous two verses.
It is highly possible that not only had earth been created long before our present day sun, but that there may have been other generations of humanoids prior to our own. This would account for such discoveries as the Neanderthal man, dinosaurs and other items know as the fossil record.
The problem is that the "Church" demands submission to their self perceived authority. They cannot state the obvious that they (like we all) do not know everything. Instead of being honest, contrite and humble, they simply make it up as they go along.
When the secular world examines the record of organized Christianity and compares it to what is written in the Bible, it is apparent that Christians are not willing to question their "authorities" and instead, accept the most ludicrous doctrines without so much as a single question or doubt. Jesus Christ did not come to send us to church, he came to save us from it.
