Response to Major Brooklin Redmen 9 St. Catharines Athletics 6

SOLID WIN FOR BROOKLIN

by thistles forever - Game #21

PORT WHITBY - They were never really able to solve the goaltending of Anthony Cosmos, however that was the only chink in the armour of the Brooklin Redmen Wednesday night. They dominated St.Catharines from start to finish for a 9-6 victory.

Defence set the tone in this one. The home side threw a blanket over the A's offence for practically the entire opening period. It took the Double Blues 11 minutes just to register a shot on goal. They didn't hit the scoresheet until Wayne Burke beat Gee Nash with 1 second left in the session. That cut Brooklin's lead to 3-1. Among the three goals was Bill Greer's first in Senior A lacrosse. He was one of the most energetic players on the floor all evening. The Redmen took a two goal advantage to the intermission despite outshooting St.Catharines 20-6.

The Athletics came into the game during the second period. Brad MacArthur earned a penalty shot and scored on it to begin the session. Mark Cotton came right back, scoring on the Double Blues' first shot of the period. They went toe to toe with the home side the rest of the frame. It was 5-4 late when Gary Rosyski scored with a power play point rocket. Rosyski had switched to #8 because his regular #9 had blood on it after a first period fight(not Rosyski's blood). Period shots favoured Brooklin 20-13.

The Redmen defence was again dominant the closing 20 minutes. They held their guests scoreless for 11 minutes and extended their lead to 7-4. Credit to Cosmos for keeping his team in it. Marc Landriault got the A's on the board with a nice shot. #8 continued to suit Rosyski as he got that goal back immediately. With under 5 minutes remaining, Landriault struck again - a wicked blast which cut the lead to 8-6. Peter Lough settled matters 41 seconds later with Brooklin's ninth marker. The Redmen had a period shot edge of 17-9. Overall they more than doubled St.Catharines, 57-28.
