Shenanigans:

At 16:33 of the second period, Shawn Parnell slashed Jim Moss hard on the leg. Moss had a few words with Parnell. Moss appeared to be reluctant to take up Parnell’s challenge for a fight as Moss’s hand were taped, however it escalated into a wrestling match and then some punches were thrown. Now we will see why Moss did not want to fight. Penalties assessed Parnell – 5 mins for slashing, 5 mins for fighting, game misconduct for second major; Moss – 5 mins for fighting and a match penalty under Rule 30 for fighting with tape on his hands. A match penalty incurs game suspensions to be determined later. As both Parnell and Moss went to the penalty box a Minister (man of the cloth) appeared behind the sin bin. Did he tell them to go to the locker game because their playing time was finished?

At 12:16 of the third Tim Burke tried to dance with Dan Dawson who turned him down. Burke received 2 mins for roughing, Dawson nothing.

At 19:34 of the third period with Peterborough shorthanded and Brampton ragging the ball to kill the clock, Peterborough’s frustrations showed. Nick Johnston crossed checked a Brampton player high and was assessed a 5 min major for slashing and a game misconduct. Back behind the play Kyle Laverty was assessed a 5 min major for excessive roughness.

Notes:

Peterborough needed to get a fast start and build a lead. They did get the first goal and Collins came up with six big saves before Brampton scored and then took the lead and held it until the end.

Peterborough appeared to run out of gas. When Peterborough’s plays worked, they either shot high or wide or Watson made the save. That happened in the three games that I saw.

Brad Self received his award for rookie of the year between periods.

Amazing how Shawn Evans can play with the big boys. Good on the draw, quick, and has the Evans’s nastiness.

Mann Cup starts in Victoria on Friday, September 5, 2003.

Till next year.
