Shenanigans –
A clean played game until near the end of regulation and in overtime. At 19:43 of the third period, D.J. Cox was displeased with Justin Laverty. While tussling about 40 feet in front of the net, Rick Heffernan scored Ennismore’s six goal to tie the game. To make matters worse, D.J. Cox received 2 mins for roughing and Laverty nothing, not only to give Ennismore possession of the ball but also to put Ennismore on the powerplay for the remainder of the period and to start overtime.
With 1:14 left in overtime, Mike Temple caught Jay Preece wandering out of his net. This is a no-no and guess who was on the floor during this incident – Frank Littlejohn and Kevin Taylor. Littlejohn’s speed beat Taylor’s to go to assist Preece. Combatants to square off were Frank Littlejohn and Jamie Delaney, and Kevin Taylor and Jake Mackle. Littlejohn’s and Delaney’s battle turned into a wrestling match and Delaney thought discretion was the better part of valour and stayed on the floor. No punches were thrown as Littlejohn could not entice Delaney to get up.
No major blows were landed between Kevin Taylor and Jake Mackle. However, Taylor took exception to advice from referee Paul Ravary and received a more serious game misconduct rather than a 10-min misconduct.
Penalties were Littlejohn – 5 mins fighting and 10-min misconduct; Taylor – 5 mins fighting and a game misconduct; Delaney – 5 mins fighting and 10-min misconduct; Mackle – 5 mins fighting.
Notes:
A fairly rare penalty shot in overtime was called on Ennismore at the 0:56 mark of overtime when Bill McLean was impeded from behind while trying to score. He did convert the penalty shot.
The passions of the game by both players and fans were in evidence after the late shenanigans. A fan of mature age had a heated discussion with Kevin Taylor after his battle and dispute with referee Paul Ravary.
The Goddess of Lacrosse was present and she and the Wamper continued their debate on the relative merits of the Brooklin Redmen and Brampton Excelsiors. A decision may be decided tomorrow night.
