not sure you guys discussed it here, but what do you think is going to happen to bb?

personally, after i got over the iphone games and hobby, i was happy to return to bb. i got myself one that has wifi and i downloaded the apps i would use often like weather, stocks, sporting news etc.

i think most are righting off BB too fast, i think they still have a strong base. of course delays in bb 10 will result a shrinkage of this base, but they will still have a fairly large one

If they don't come out with something truly innovative, very soon, I think they are going to go the way of NORTEL...

RIMs saving grace is it's security architecture, it is way more secure than either Android or iOS. Of course the problem is that most users don't really care about security...until of course they suffer some catastrophe due to their security practices then they quickly blame everyone except themselves.

From a business perspective RIM suffers from the same inefficiencies/ailments that plagued Nortel, way too much internal bureaucracy and virtually no engagement from the board. The rumors that I am hearing, seem to indicate that RIM is taking the exact same tact that Nortel took in it's layoffs, which is deciding who goes primarily based upon internal politics. Which means the cuts will take out primarily R&D and customer facing people (increasing the workload for those remaining in those departments) while leaving the hugely inefficient and often repetitive and overlapping internal processes and bureaucracy largely in place.

My current thinking is that RIM will totally implode within the next 2 to 3 years...sadly.

Wasn't it from a BB where some hacker got all of Paris Hiltons "private" photos and her whole contact list? wink.gif

i dont think u can equate bb to nortel

bb still has a strong customer base. i think if they dont come out with something good and innovative, the base will shrink signifcantly but there will still be a good base and market share

Nortel equipment is still in use today, in fact it is very likely that most telephone calls in Canada pass through Nortel switches even today.

The problem at most large Canadian companies is that there is a verl large and inefficient middle layer of bureaucracy full of individuals that sees change as a threat to their continued employment...and therefore those people do everything they can to stifle change and evolution in the organization. If an organization fails to adapt to changing conditions, it dies.
