Illyrian and Thracian, ancient Macedonian was not recorded in writing. And the Hellenes were using the Phoenician alphabet.

...that's why the ancient Greek writer Euripides spent years at the Macedonian court and wrote some of his most famous plays there. They obviously spoke the same language, otherwise he would have left immediately. Ancient Macedonians spread out all over the Middle East, western Asia and northern Africa. Their writings that remain with us are ALL in Greek. The Jews clearly called them Greeks over and over again. It is an indisputable fact that ancient Greeks of all kinds (Athenian, Theban, Ionian, Macedonian) used the same alphabet -- the Greek one.
