| In Greece, in Aegean Macedonia, hundreds of village names were changed in 1926 from Macedonian into Greek. Also all the first and last names of the Macedonian people were changed, for example from Jovan Pachov to Ioannis Patsopulos. The original Macedonian names of the villages were changed from Negochani to Niki, from Banitsa to Vevi, from Gornichevo to Keli from Kukush to Kilkis plus many, many others. The farm names are still the original names in Macedonian as are the names of the mountains.
The Greeks use the old name Constantinople instead of Istanbul. It would be like using the old name of new Amsterdam for New York. Why not use again the old original Macedonian toponyms of the villages that the Greeks changed in 1926? |
