Given these harsh economic conditions, it should not come as no surprise that there was some animosity towards the refugees. Easy targets for ridicule were the unusual clothing some of the Asia Minor Greeks wore , and the unfamiliar dialects or the Turkish they spoke (C.A.M.S. 1992;133); a common insuilt was to call a refugee a "son of a Turk" (tourkosporos), an insuilt that carries with itimplications of contamination (cf5)
