working on my application

I am working on my application and would very much appreciate advise regarding recommendations. Physician (MD or DO) or prior instructor or other professional or nonprofessional.. I know what my preference catagory is but does anyone know if admissions actuallly favors one catagory over another or does it really make any difference at all? My thanks to anyone who responds to my question!
