The water supply on Saba is rain water collected from the roofs to the gutters that drain into large concrete cisterns. Water conservation is key on Saba. You do not let the water run while you shower. Instead you get wet, turn off, soap, turn on water, rinse quickly, and turn off. Similarly, you conserve water by flushing toilets only when necessary.
Bottled water for drinking is widely available as nobody wants to drink cistern water (the cisterns have guppies in them to prevent mosquitos from growing larvae and spreading dengue fever). It takes some getting used to, but is not really that bad.
