Akron, Ohio, March 11.--James Brown paid $5 and costs today for spanking his wife.
He said he had spent a half hour or more trying to get her out of bed. It was getting time to start for work and there was no breakfast in sight.
According to the testimony Brown finally dragged her from bed, but she went back again. He pulled her out and put her across his knees.
She says that he used a hair brush. He denies this, claiming that it was his bare hand, but did admit pushing her nightgown out of the way so he could spank her in the old fashion way.
She said she brought the proceedings as a test case.

Chicago, May 2.--The courts of Milwaukee must decide whether or not the fact of a husbnd taking his wife across his knees and spanking her as he would an unruly child constitutes grounds for divorce.
Mrs. Hans Berg has filed a petition for divorce, making this her complaint.
