Blushes suffused the pretty face of Kathryn Yakers, a blond haired, blue eyed parlor maid of the Clarendon Hotel, Brooklyn, as she told the complaint clerk in the Adams Street Police Court today how her mother, Mrs Adele Yakers had placed her across her lap and spanked her for declaring her intention to marry Herman Schmidt.
He is the stalwart stewart of the Empire Hotel, Manhattan. It was with difficulty he restrained his indignation as his sweetheart told her story to the police clerk.
Miss Yakers said she was twenty years old, but didn't look more than sixteen. It was while securing a summons for her mother's appearance before Magistrate Brenner in the Adams Street Court tomorrow morning to answer for retaining the daughters clothing, that the spanking incident was diplomatically drawn from the blushing bride-elect.
"I had gone home from my job at the Clarendon and told my mother that Herman and I had set the day for our wedding", said Miss Yakers. "She was furious". "I'll fix you if you dare to marry without my consent!, she yelled, and she grabbed me and threw me across her lap, and-well she spanked me terribly".
When she told Schmidt of the alleged outrage he wanted to spank the mother, but his sweetheart induced him not to take the law in his own hands.
