Here's a real spanking story from the 1890's that you seafaring New Englander's will like.
Its a true tale taken from a letter written by a young woman named Marian Smith I found in Joan Druett's, "Hen Frigates" published in 1998 by Schuster and Schuster. The book based on persoanl diaries and letters tells the story New England women who sailed the world with there seafaring husbands in the 1800's.
Here's the exert, pg. 75, "Hen Frigate".....
....Marian Smith, who accompanied her husband, Horace, on whaling voyages toward the end of the century wrote to her father in May, 1895, "Oh I quite forgot to tell you that yesterday Horace took me over his knee and spanked me. Wholly without provocation too, for all I did was was to flirt my mittens in his face"
Her giggle is almost audible, and at the end of the letter there is a note written by her husband. "Pop, she was so sassy I just had to take her over my knees"
In 1891 on board the J.F. Chapman, Albert Thompson indulged in similar frolics with his bride of five months. "I fooled with Albert until he got mad," wrote his wife, Kate....
