There were a lot of press stories in the US around August 1999 about a Texas school cheerleader named Amber Page, who was taken into an office at South Grand Prairie High School, near Dallas, bent over a desk and paddled on the bottom by a male administrator witnessed by a male assistant principal. She chose to be paddled instead of in-school suspension, and paddling is a normal student option in many US public and private schools. She was also removed from the cheerleader squad (she was captain) and fined $135.
