Here is the second article about a spanking that appeared in the New york Times during the early 1900's. This article appeared in the October 15, 1903 issue.
*********************************** SPANKING LED TO WEDDING Failure of Mrs. Bailey's Drastic Method of Persuading Her Daughter Not To Marry.
Special to the New York Times, Hartford, Conn., Oct. 14, 1903-- Charles F. Halsted, aged twenty-two years, employed at Pratt & Whitney's, in this city, and Miss Estelle V. Bailey of Middletown, aged sixten, were married last night under peculiar circumstances. They had been looking forward to the time when they would become man and wife, after both had added a few more years to their life. But opposition to their plans had developed in the girl's home.
Her mother insisted that she was still a child and also that Halsted's health was not such as would admit of an engagement. Halsted's father died recently of consumption. Last Sunday night Mrs. Bailey sought to show Estelle that she was still a child by giving her a sound spanking with a slipper.
This so infuriated the young couple that they resolved to establish their independence at once. By dint of persuasion they secured the consent of Mr. Bailey, the father, and, provided with a marriage license, presented themselves last evening to the Rev. Dr. Hasen of Middletown at his parsonage.
After the ceremony the bride went to her aunt's, her only possessions being the clothes she had on her back, for her mother would allow her to take nothing from her home, or at least so she believed. Halsted returned to work to-day, with expectation of soon making a home here for his wife. _______________________________

Estelle says, "she was already in bed and about to go to sleep Sunday night when her mother entered her bedroom looking very angry and holding the thick slipper she uses for spanking in hand"
"she very quickly crossed the room and taking me by the ear, forcibily pulled me out of the bed, sat on the edge of it and bent me over her knees" "mother then pushed my night shirt to the side and began spanking me with the slipper"
Estelle said, "she couldn't help from crying like a baby because it was a very long spanking, it was the worst she'd ever recieved from her mother"
Mrs. Bailey does not deny giving her daughter the spanking of her life.
Mrs. Bailey says, "she spanked Estelle Sunday evening because she talked back to her and was rude"
Mrs. Bailey said, "Estelle can have her belongs and all will be forgiven if she apoligizes for her behavior on Sunday.
