My Thought on female in wrestling

by Mike

I just wanted to say that i think the female in wrestling like the WWF or any where else that get spanked in the ring. Probably does Not min about it but we in my opion need to realzie How it is embrassing for them to be turn over and given a spanking to in front of people that is at the arena not to metion people watching at Home. I guess we should thank some of them for givng us the chance to see them get sapnked. But we need to understand that the female are only playing a role that force them to get spanked. i have never heard a female talk about it anywhere sometime i belive that up to the female if she is willing to get spanked by so and so that my opion what is Your. sometime i feel tha tit probalby the female idea too they probably ask to be spanked.

Female wrestling spankings?

by Dan Rivera

Well, I've been around the spanking scene for a lot of years now, and I'm certain that all those who participate in public spankings are completely "okay" with it. They kind of enjoy being in the public eye.

wrestling

by dudley dan

Wrestling is a great source of spanking. Trish stratus has been involved in several spanking incidents in 2001. She has been spanked by vince(off screen) stephanie and given stephanie spanking back and torrie wilson and jackie in spanking matches. Obviously she did not mind being involved in this or she would not have agreed to it. The wwf would have probably given the role to another woman. Lately Stacy has taken over from trish as spanking queen and recieved several from torrie and male wrestlers sgt slaughter and the big show for one. Hope this continues.

First learn to speak english so we can figure out what the hell your trying to say. And secondly you have the nerve to post this when you send emails and post on females wrestlers websites asking them to spank you. You give yourself away because no one could possibly write like you, if nothing else your style is unique. You know who I am talking about. If I were her, I'd press charges for harrassment.

Roller Derby Paddling

by John

Many years ago I was watching a roller derby match on late night TV. It seems the two top women skaters from each team challenged each other to a one on one contest to determine the best skater....I don`t remember the teams, names or exactly when this occured.

The girl that lost had to bend over in the infield and was paddled by the winner. The paddling was very fake looking and done with something that looked more like a boat oar.

Afterward they interviewed the girls. I remember the girl who was paddled saying it didn`t hurt very much since she "had callouses back there" from falling on the race track so many time.

maybe you should move to the USA if you don't live and second of all which female you are talking about. I know that me gettign spanked by the female i ask to spank me will never happen becasue 2 thing Number one i don't really know them they don't know me and 2 they probably will not like me. One last thing what i was saying is that we the fans do Not know if the female agree to be spanked in the ring or not.maybe they have a say as who does it and for How long the spanking last.

The Kiss Me Kate Study Guide

by Dev Warren

The Broadway revival of Kiss Me Kate published a "Field Guide for Teachers" who wanted to take their classes to see the show. This Guide can be accessed online. It does not flinch from dealing with the sensitive topic of the spanking. Marin Mazzie, who played Lili Vanessi, is quoted on the issue. Delightfully, she justifies the chastisement, pointing out that Lili has repeatedly mauled Fred, that he has repeatedly warned her to stop, and that she has repeatedly ignored his warnings. "She deserves to be spanked," Ms. Mazzie concludes.

I'm sure we'll all agree that this is a refreshingly just and impartial assessment of the situation.

Another Deva Who Justified her Spanking!

by Jindabyne

Good stuff, Dev. Thanks for letting us know how Marin Mazzie viewed her spanking scene. Such an attitude might explain why she happily returned to the role of Lilli Vanessi in the 'Old Dart' to be repeatedly spanked all over again? Must make for entertaining & informative reading for the youth of America! (If only in my school days!)
Below, you all may have been following discussions re ballet's answer to KMK, namely "La Fille Mal Gardee". (If you spot a performance somewhere, let word out here!) I mentioned that performers were interviewed for the edited version of the production shown on Australian TV (but excluded from the video, sadly). When the prima ballerina, Fiona Tonkin, was interviewed re her character, Lise, Fiona confidently commented, "She's a little brat, really!", with a wry smurk on her face. It tacitly suggested Fiona also felt Lise's spanking was more than justified & appropriate when she was once again caught playing with her friends when her Mother quite clearly had repeatedly told her to complete her choirs.
Still, I don't reckon many female artists have ever actually complained about their spanking scene & have seen a genuine purpose to their chastisement. Any other examples, I wonder?,
Forever Waffling,
Jinders.

My Dear Children

by js666

Back around 1939, John Barrymore did a play called "My Dear Children" with his last wife, Elaine Barrie, who was considerably younger. She played one of his daughters, and at the climax of the play he gave her a spanking. At some point, Elaine walked out of the show, and the story got out that she objected to how hard he had been spanking her. (In reality, their marriage was apparently in trouble, though she did come back after a while.)

One of his biographers quoted a letter he had gotten from a "helpful" lady who suggested that he try spanking lower down on the buttocks, where it would hurt less.

Kiss Me Kate thoughts

by Dallas

In searching for items on Kiss Me Kate productions I've often come across critic reviews that generally give a glowing review to the show they saw, with the exception of one scene, you guessed it, the spanking.
More than once have I read where the critic voiced his/her displeasure that in this day and age the spanking scene is outdated and should be deleted or updated (just as well as deleted.) As this play is one of the few bones that is thrown to we enthusiasts this view is quite vexing, especially when I read other notes of a KMK production where the spanking is applied off-screen or the curtain drops in a panic when Kate is placed across the knee.

I recently acquired a KMK video where Kate is played by the lovely & talented Rachel York, avid fans of the sitcom Frasier might remember her as the policewoman-disguised stripper who gets handcuffed to Frasier and spends half the episode running around in her bra & panties.

I was concerned of a cop-out when the spanking scene arrived, but I was pleasantly surprised when Petruchio sat on the table, pulled Kate across his lap and lifted away her dress to apply 13 spanks to her pantalooned bottom. The lights went out for a split second, but they returned with adequate illumination to view just about all the swats. One charming aspect of the scene is that the curtain is dropping to end the scene about half way through the spanking, but stops and rises back up a bit to let the crowd view a few more spanks before it fulfills its purpose and closes the scene.

Hooray for theatre traditionalists.

Vague Memories from the 1960s

by Tiger

I faintly remember these two instances from sixties television:
Tony Franciosa threatening Jill St.John with a spanking if she repeats some transgression

An instance on the Bob Hope Show (I think he hosted a weekly drama show) where a young woman said at the end of an episode: "he spanked me, I haven't been spanked since I was a little girl".
I would appreciate it if anyone can fill in the details.
Cheers, Tiger

Tony Franciosa and Bob Hope

by

Tony Franciosa did spank a little girl, Julia Benjamin,
in an episode of his early 60's sitcom VALENBTINES DAY.
The episode is "Mama Loathes Papa". Bob Hope did give a spanking to one of his sons in the movie THE SEVEN LITTLE FOYS

Valentine's Day

by js666

I remember that episode well. The little girl, who was spoiled rotten, and her equally spoiled mother come to stay with Val after separating from the downtrodden man of the family. Val eventually gives the girl a "bop on the bottom." He then looks up the father and tells him to take back control of the family. (Hey, it was the 60's.) The father comes in at the end announcing, "I've come to get my pants back." He then drags his daughter off-screen for another spanking -- she tells Val that her father is much better at it than he is -- and then threatens his wife with the same thing if she doesn't come with him. (Hey, it was the 60's.) She challenges him but then thinks better of it and goes off to pack. (Too bad.)

I think the wife was played by Shirley Knight, but I'm not sure. (IMDB is no help.)

The Fifth Wheel

by

Pardon me if this is a rerun that you've already seen, but tonight's episode of The Fifth Wheel contains a delicious bottom-strapping of a luscious vixen named "Nicki." She bends over willingly, sticks out her gorgeous tush, and takes three visible swats from the belt of her date, a dude named Josh.

These dating shows have proliferated like rabbits on syndication TV of late, and so far I have managed to videotape spanking/paddling/strapping scenes from three (3) of them. God only knows how many more are out there. I've been told that the afternoon dating show "Shipmates" has a spanking scene as well, but so far I've not managed to captured it on videotape.

Anyway, while movies and mainstream TV have failed us as far as good spanking scenes go, syndication TV -- with its omnipresent wrestling shows, and now the dating shows, have presented us some pretty good gems. A renaissance? Dunno for sure. Let's just say, the 21st century so far is looking a bit better than the last one-fourth of the 20th.

Keep the Faith!

Cheers,
Dan

Shipmates

by Saoirse

If my brain hasn't failed me, I may have on tape the "spanking" from this show. When I saw it, it wasn't an afternoon show but at night on a Sacramento Fox station. (Perhaps a re-run?)

I missed some of the bottom smacks as I decided, after turning across it, to record it (did I? I must check that "leave it in the machine to catch the random scene" tape.) The spanking took place as she played a slot machine and he stood behind her. The slats were fairly light and multiple. All in good fun as she waved her bottom at him to encourge more.

Cheers! (and straight-backed, armless Chairs!)

Cindy!

by Jindabyne

Howdy,
Australia has only just started getting screenings of "The Cindy Margolis Show". Cindy's main claim to fame is to be allegedly the world's most 'down loaded' lady, i.e. she's pretty 'easy on the eyes'! (And a bubbly personality to match). Tonight we saw the episode in which Gerry Springer pays a visit to her party scene.
During the show, they show where Cindy goes out dancing with a cast member, Lance. During it, they show a scene where Cindy is dancing with Lance wearing a bright turquoise dress. Suddenly they cut to where Cindy is facing away from Lance nicely bent to receive a few swats. Lance was obliging landing 7 swats to her right cheek in rhythm with the music. (Half his luck!!) With the editting, more may well have been landed. It was a great playful moment. The only shame was the cameraperson was filming a little low so you couldn't see how Cindy was reacting but she was obviously more than happy to maintain position so I won't complain too much!!
Later in the show a 2 female dance team repeated the effort in their dance routine. Looks like it's catching on?! As long as the U.S. keeps puting out 'quality work' like this, there is always hope with the demonstration a little light spanking can be fun!,
Enjoy,
Jindabyne.

T.V.Spanking

by Scottish Surfer

I have no memory of the Jimmy Jewel spanking, but i wonder if Smack has any knowledge of a spanking on a
British Police Series(ZCars???).I was told that a 15 year old girl had her skirt lifted and was given a spanking. However,a man who sold me spanking compilation tapes years ago rubbished that(Not Dan).
Recently,i visited a BBC Forum and was surprised when
i saw some of the posts on their Message Board.Rather
politically incorrect, not typical of the BBC.I often hear people complain of their posts disappearing from
certain Message Boards.I have moaned about it myself.
To be fair, our moans are not always valid.Owing to the Computer Age,they get so many e-mails as well as letters arriving that Newspaper Editors and the people who monitor these Message Boards can pick and choose what will go on public display.

Cinema Swats tapes

by

Hi... Couldn't help but "overhear" you asking about my Cinema Swats videos. For those who still haven't seen them, there are now five (5) VHS videos in the series -- numbered 1 to 5 -- and each of them features dozens of great spanking scenes from TV and the movies.

It gives me a great deal of pleasure to collect rare scenes, then put them onto a videotape and make them available to the public. If you think that's a self-serving statement, let me add that I never intended to turn out so many videos. But after I launched the first one in 1991, people kept asking for more. So I came up with a sequel, then another, then another. Not only that, but I've dropped the price by ten bucks per tape since the old days, so that many more folks can enjoy these tapes now.

Arild has been kind enough to create a section in his Movie Spanking List for the Cinema Swats series, and I am forever grateful. If you think you'd be interested in seeing these, why not stop in on the site and learn more?

If you buy even one of these tapes, I'm pretty sure you will see spanking scenes you've never viewed before. There are more than 200 of them in the series now, and with good luck there may be yet another sequel coming.

Cheers,
Dan

Re; Cinema Swats. Don't worry us Mr Riviera!

by Sir John

My Dear chap. Please do not worry myself, and your many other fans by saying things like Cinema Swats No.6 "...may with luck.." be issued. For many of us in will be THE video release of 2002! Keep up the superb work.

May I also use this forum to say how much more enjoyable I find spanking scenes from mainstream and semi-mainstream films as opposed to those produced ,somewhat woodenly (and relatively inexpensively) for the mass market, where the amount of pubic hair revealed by the female recipients is often considered to be one of the crucial elements of the content.Having been loosely associated with such productions in the past, I feel totally justified in making such a comment and am sure I am not alone in my preferences.

Best wishes

Is that pubic or public?

by

Sir John... I couldn't agree more. Far too many of the independent spanking videos focus on sex instead of what should be the main attraction, the spanking itself and its lead-in and follow-up.

This is an old debate, of course. There are many sincere spankophiles who insist that the appropriate response to a hot, steamy spanking is hot, steamy sex. There are just as many who prefer to keep spankings and sex separate, and I am among their number. I can't tell you how many scenes I have rejected for the Cinema Swats videos, simply because they are inextricably entwined with explicit sexual acts. One that comes to mind is "Ring of Desire," but there are many others.

At present I have 29 scenes collected for the possible Cinema Swats #6. I will need at least eleven (11) more to fill a videocassette. My spies and I are on the job, night and day, trying to ferret out the best spanking scenes that still exist. We'll keep trying.

Police Series Spanking

by Sir John

I think I may Know to what you are refering .I'm not sure if it was an episode of Z cars but I recollect that the script was by Ted Lewis who wrote scripts for many of the TV Police series of that era. There was no spanking actually shown but it was clearly heard; Throughout its duration the TV camera was focused on the very unhappy face of the girls younger step brother who is sitting on a chair in the same room at the time. As I remember the plot (and I'm sure Smack will take me to task if I've got it wrong) this was a sub-plot in the episode relating to the physical abuse of a young teenage girl by her stepfather who is a loving caring father to his younger son.He takes him to watch Rugby etc. The father finds fault with the girl at every opportunity and despite some protests from the Mother disciplines her(the daughter} frequently .I am sorry he would say to his wife but she needs discipline. When the girl is medically examined-I can't be absolutely sure why but I think she was hit (not seriously) by a car and the police called- her buttocks and upper legs are found to be very badly bruised. The police make enquiries but cannot prosecute because of the wife's (slightly reluctant) support. However the episode ends with him being arrested and the twist in the tale is that the son with whom the man thought he had a wonderful relationship is revealed as the witness that enables the case to proceed.

The sounds of the spanking previously refered are realisticly brutal with sharp gasps from the girl and grimances on the boys face on screen. I think I recollect some of the dialog but won't say too much because I'm sure it will attract adverse comment! However the skirt lifting to which you refer may arise from the stepfather being clearly heard to say at the end of "punishment"- You may now get up and get dressed.

Police Series Spanking

by Scottish Surfer

Thanks for the information.Since it was about
child abuse,i have lost interest.I only enjoy
seeing stroppy females getting a good spanking.
If they get a smack on the mouth, the guy gets arrested. They are not so keen on reporting to the Police that they got spanked.Tonight,on British T.V.,
there is a strapping. This is not my scene but,as it
is rather off-screen,i can just about tolerate it.
Donald Sutherland(the son),former fiance of Julia Roberts, witnesses ths strapping.(Bay Boy)
Sir John, you sound about the same age as me.Do you remember the Spanish chef spanking his wife in
"Crossroads"in the 1960s.This is another one the P.C.
Brigade appear to have relegated to the Recycle Bin.
Then they turn around and show a particularly nasty rape.My sister was in the room and i didn't know where to look. When John Wayne spanked both Maureen O'Hara and
Elizabeth Allen in 1963,the only comment that came from
the female members of the family was "Big John always
wins".

Crosroads Action??

by Jindabyne

Hi Scottish Surfer,
Great to have your valuable input once again lately. With you, now we have us a chat forum! Plenty of quality input these days from many others to make it worth your while!
Speaking of "Crossroads", I remember a fun Swedish birching scene years ago from what I guess was the late 1960's (or maybe later) in a light-hearted British sitcom. (Yeh, I am a big fan of the hand but it was fun & a rare 'drought breaking' moment back then). I remember the show's name as Crossroads but I could well be wrong.
What I recall was the English family in question was enjoying a Continental holiday, departing from the usual home setting for the show. They must have been visiting Sweden when they opted for a relaxing massage, (1 of my personal specialities). The 'cheary' natured wife found herself stripped off face down on the massage table awaiting a very relaxing experience.
In comes the female masseuse armed with the birch in question. The wife can't see what is to come as yet. Suddenly her tranqility is a little disrupted when the masseuse in true Swedish tradition starts applying the birch to what we imagine is her bared bottom. Each swat got a delightful & comical, "Ouch", from our leading lady accompanied each time by 'canned' laughter. She was stunned & didn't know how to react but 'ride it out'! Between strokes, the masseuse in a thick (possibly fake) Swedish accent commented things like, "It is good, yah?!", &, "It is good for circulation, yah?!"
The whole scene was filmed from head on & angled upwards slightly so much was, of course, left to the imagination. The slightly off-screen swats probably totalled 4 or 5 prior to the scene fading out.
Does anyone remember this 1? do I have the right show? Who was the lucky recipient I wonder?
BTW, is it genuine the Swedes regularly or occasionally birch backsides in the name of massage? I wonder what lovely ladies have been on the receiving end of this in real life?!
Love to see the Spanish cook's wife's spanking!, hey!,
Jindabyne.

It was a light-hearted fully-clothed spanking.I do remember another one-swatter and, funnily enough, the woman who got that one-swatter was the only one who
survived from the original cast. They went down in the ratings and went off the air. They started up again and the woman who got the one-swat and had survived from the early days was killed off quite early in this latest series.I mentioned this a while back and Smack
said that the episode i remembered with the spanking
was dumped.

Another Family Show

by Jindabyne

No worries, SS, the programme I recall was also very much a family show, i.e. a regular sitcom. Hence, the scene in question was highly discrete. (The set-up something akin to the hairbrush spanking Piper Something-or-other got from her washer-ladies in "The Prince Who Was a Thief"(?) with Tony Curtis the male lead). Over the years, I guess many family sitcoms would have portrayed massage scenes. The recipient I recall was your usual 'cutesy' sitcom lady, perhaps remoniscent of Wendy Craig, say. As I recall, it was a British programme called "Crossroads" but I could be very wrong as I was quite young @ the time. It did happen, though. The comedy of the spanking imminated from the fact she went for a relaxing time on holidys but instead found herself on the receiving end of a Swedish birch via a strong female masseusse that though she was giving her client just what she wanted.
I can't be certain of its usual setting of the show as the episode with the comical birching was when they were on holidays away from their usual environment. Perhaps it was "Crossroads"?!
I guess it's another one lost to the annals of time.
Thanks for all the info, SS. Much Appreciated,
Jin Sling!

police series

by spankmanuk

Forgive if I regress the board but am catching up on old letters as I have just returned from the wilderness. This sounds very familiar to a story line in Dr Findlay's Case Book back in the 60s. As I re-call the good doctor calls in police after discovering a girl's thighs/legs bruised.

Good Memory Indeed!

by Jindabyne

I wanted to thank you, Sir John, for the outstanding quality of your recount. It was so much more fun than the 'A' spanked 'B' bare bones comments we often get. They are useful but it is so much more interesting & entertaining when people like yourself put so much 'colour' into your vivid recollections. I really hope others follow your lead.
It sounded like a fun scene, especially the way Miss Rex carried on oblivious to her spanking. I'll bet she found it a real 'stir'!,
Well done,
Jindabyne.

Exceptionally Good Memory.........

by Smack

I'd just like to run through a few points about Thicker Than Water. The series was shown in Britain in February and March 1969, at 7.30 p.m. on Monday evenings. As far as I know it was never repeated. The master tape was wiped by the BBC in the 1970s and, as I said myself in November, no copies are known to exist. It will not therefore be coming out on DVD in the near future.

To say the least, Sir John's detailed account of the spanking scene reveals a very, very good memory indeed, in more ways than one.

When Spankmanuk first drew the series to our attention, he told us that Jimmy Jewel's character was always threatening his daughter, and that after some time he made good his threats, put her across his knee and spanked her with a hairbrush.

Sir John tells us, in very enjoyable detail, that the spanking scene happens right at the start of the second episode of the series, that Roberta Rex lies across his knee herself for other purposes (rather than being put there for a spanking), and that Jewel seizes the opportunity to spank her with his hand.

I hope I summarize both accounts accurately. It seems to me that they don't match up perfectly, and that (unless there were two spanking scenes, which seems unlikely) either Sir John or Spankmanuk must be mistaken. I don't know which of them is mistaken, just that it must be one or the other. When I have the time and can spare the cash for the search fee, I could get the script out and check. For the time being I'm just going to have to think forensically.

Forgive me, Sir John. Please understand that, when it's so easy for someone to go on the internet and (in effect) write fiction, honest witnesses sometimes get suspected unjustly. I do in fact have some evidence which seems to support your account in general terms. (I hope everyone will understand why I'm going to keep it to myself for the time being.) But there are other things which don't quite seem to ring true.

One of the things that makes me uncertain is the deliberateness with which Jewel's character seems to be acting in your account of the scene. We know that in those glorious days of the micro-mini-skirt there were many instances where girls accidentally (or 'accidentally') showed their panties on television, and we know that one of these was in the context of a spanking scene in Please Sir. But it's a very different thing for Roberta Rex to have her skirt lifted by Jimmy Jewel with the obvious sole intention of showing her panties. You say that Jewel then actually touched her knickers and apparently started to pull them down, exposing an inch or so of bare bottom. That is getting very risqué indeed, on a programme that was shown, as I said, at 7.30 in the evening. What's more, it was made at a time in the BBC's history when pressure from the top was making its programming less daring than it had been a few years earlier: one of the first things Lord Hill did when he became Chairman of the BBC in 1967 was, famously, to order the removal of a reference to knickers from the Beatles film Magical Mystery Tour. Crass, stupid and puritanical he may have been, but he was also in charge. Would the scene as you describe it have been made for 'family viewing time' eighteen months later, with Hill still at the top? I'm not saying it's impossible, but it is a legitimate cause for doubt.

My other cause for doubt is relatively straightforward. You give a very vivid account of the scene, in the present tense, right down to details of how the studio audience was reacting. This is a programme which, to the best of my knowledge, has been unavailable for anyone to view since the 1970s. I assume that you saw it 33 years ago when it was shown in 1969. I further assume that you saw it just once, on its sole British showing. Obviously you were concentrating on the spanking: everyone on this site would be. But the studio audience?

Please, Sir John, take my scepticism in the spirit intended. I would dearly love for my doubts to be proven wrong, and for you to establish your bona fides. If by some miracle you own a copy of the episode, please return it to the BBC archives (having first made it available on the internet for all to enjoy): you will get your property back, and they will be able to restore it, preserve it, maybe even repeat it or release it commercially! (Unlikely, but you never know.) But if you are indeed basing your account on a 33-year-old memory, could you please give us some more information that may corroborate it? Can you, for example, remember what the story of that episode was about? Or indeed what any of the other episodes' stories were?

Also, Spankmanuk, can you shed any light on the discrepancy between your memory of the spanking scene and Sir John's?

To sum up, I have no reason to doubt Spankmanuk's account. I have some cause to believe Sir John's (which I haven't gone into) and some reasons to doubt it (which I have specified). I want to believe it and I don't want to cause offence. I know that it can be irritating when genuine information, offered in a spirit of helpful collaboration, seems to be questioned by someone who doesn't actually know one way or the other. But I also want to be sure, and if possible I don't want to have to shell out to check the script for myself!

My response to Smack

by Sir John

Whilst I accept that memories do fade with time, this is definitely how I remember the episode in question. If you doubt my resume there is not much more I can say except that I find your puzzlement relating to my references to the audience laughter odd. One of the significant features of the scene was the absence of dialog and I don't think init would have worked as television without the almost continual audience laughter. I don't know whether this particular show was recorded before a live audience and its responses edited or whether the laughter was just "canned".In my youth I did manage to get the occasional freebie ticket ftom the BBC for radio concerts and the odd pilot TV show so I know this did happen.

By the way I was influenced in my decision to contrbute by two things. Firstly the fact that this scene had really stuck in my mind and secondly the apparent lack of accurate detail in the post ; there was no hairbrush and the actress who played Vicky (I'm almost certain it was Roberta Rex) had dark hair ,cut as I recollect, in a Page Boy type style.

In any event I suspect you will not be satisfied until you have access to the original stage directions(therebeing mo dialog for the scene in question!).I didn't know such things were available ! Does one just write to the BBC or is there some sort of 'vault" you can visit?

Regards

Sir John

Thanks, Sir John

by Smack

I very much respect Sir John's reply to my message of last week. I think you're right that I won't be completely satisfied in my own mind until I've seen the script. (Perhaps not even then: BBC scripts of that period often have gaps where routines were worked out by the artists.) But your comments have the stamp of calm, rational honesty that goes a long way to help establish his credibility. I wish you'd started off by drawing attention to the discrepancies between the scene as you remembered it and the scene as Spankmanuk did, but I do understand why you didn't include that in what was, in effect, your first post. It would still be interesting to hear from Spankmanuk about this. I suppose it's possible that his memory was, quite innocently, at fault: if we're lucky, maybe he got his shows mixed up and there is another late 1960s television spanking to be sought, featuring a mini-skirted girl with long blonde hair. If we're even luckier, maybe this time it might even be from a programme that still exists!

In due course I shall be looking at the script for Thicker than Water programme 2 to confirm Sir John's report. (In answer to your question, Sir John, it's not an archive accessible by the general public.) I can't say for certain when this will be; don't hold your breath. In the meantime, I can put on record that the episode title was The Licence and it was shown on 24th February 1969. The producer/director was Douglas Argent, and the script was by Peter Robinson, who was towards the beginning of his career as a scriptwriter in which he wrote mainly for sketch shows; he was still in the business twenty years later for Russ Abbott and Les Dennis. Thicker than Water (and its 1968 pilot, The Family of Fred) was his first sitcom; he later co-wrote the first two series of And Mother Makes Three.

Last time I played devil's advocate for the sceptical response to Sir John's report, so now I'll say a few things on the other side of the argument. Roberta Rex did indeed play Vicki, the youngest of the teenage daughters (and so the one most likely to be spanked), and Sir John is right: she did have dark hair, not blonde. Moreover, Jimmy Jewel and Roberta Rex were the first actors to appear in the first scene of the episode in question, as Sir John reports; I know this because Radio Times of this period printed the cast lists in order of appearance, and for this episode (and only this episode) their names are at the top. (For non-British readers, the Radio Times is the BBC's radio and television listings magazine.)

As Sir John describes it, the spanking scene reads as a fairly specific late '60s joke about young people. It's poking fun at youth culture, which is easy to do in any period, but also at the micro-skirt. As Jindabyne pointed out here recently, the fashion meant there were more girls showing their panties than ever before or since: it was widespread by 1969 but some people still considered it to be relatively new and shocking. Obviously this didn't include micro-skirt wearers, and that's half of the first part of the joke in the spanking scene: Vicki just doesn't care what she shows off. The other half of the joke is about how preoccupied Vicki is with her music. She's unaware of the irritation she's causing Jimmy Jewel, she's unaware that she's showing her knickers, and she's even unaware that she's being spanked: the music has her total attention to the exclusion of everything else!

I can think of at least two other examples of a spanking scene shown on British television where the girl had her skirt deliberately raised to be spanked on her panties. They were both transmissions of the ballet La Fille Mal Gardée, where the heroine's pantomime dame mother (played by a man) puts her across 'her' knee, turns up her skirt and petticoats and, in some performances, gets a few slaps in before the punishment is interrupted. This was broadcast in 1962 with the original cast of Stanley Holden and Nadia Nerina, and another version with Ronald Emblen and Lesley Collier was shown in 1981; the latter is currently available in Britain on video and DVD. Of course, this was high culture rather than 7.30 lowbrow sitcom, but it does show that panties spankings were not completely unbroadcastable!

As a supplement to this discussion, I'll share a recollection of a letter from the TV Times (the other British TV listings magazine) from 1969. There was a correspondence going on about the mini-skirt (versus the maxi and midi), and at about the same time the journal published an article by Ted Willis supporting corporal punishment. In response to this they printed a letter from (if I recall correctly) a 17-year-old girl who said that her mother still believed 'a good spanking' was the best deterrent, then drew in the other hot topic by quoting Mum as saying: 'There is one thing about the mini-skirt: a naughty girl is self-prepared for a spanking when it is necessary.' The clear implication being that it should be administered to the seat of her panties.

"La Fille Mal Gardee". Halleluya!!

by Jindabyne

Hiya,
Very interesting Smack & co. The young ladies of those English sitcoms were so much fun & so 'obliging'! (I remember how entertaining Miss Brahms of "Are You Being Served" was when she finally yielded, too!)
In particular, I am 'wrapped' to know the spanking in "La Fille Mal Gardee" is a regular feature. Now we have ballet's answer to KMK to seek & enjoy! Excellent!
I have in the past often reported on the "Australian Ballet" production of LFMG in which the delicious Fiona Tonkin took 5 fun pats on her glistening white panties with her arms & legs comically flailing. I once asked this group if other LFMG productions featured the spanking. At last, thanks to you, Smack, I @ last have an answer! So there you are group, get 'cultured' & track it down!
I bought a French version in which the spanking was omitted. Useful! Later I bought a copy complete with the Tonkin spanking from the "ABC Shop", where ABC = "Australian Broadcasting Commission". I still have it & may still be available. Perhaps in "Cinema Swats 6", Dan could string together a short series of LFMG & KMK spankings including professional & college productions?!
I had a look @ pictures of Nadia Nerida. She is very pretty & would have made a wonderful spankee. I remember watching a documentary series on English male ballet dancers. As they drove up to the school @ which he learned his trade, he pointed out "Spanker's Wood". He went on to explain, "And it's called that for good reason!" There must be some fun tales re the spanked tales of some of England's finest young ballerinas there to be found!
And let's face it, what could more delightful than seeing some snooty, spoilt & refined prima ballerina get up-ended & spanked there in public for all to see!!??,
Go to it, team!,
A Very Cultured Jindabyne.

La Fille Mal Gardée: A Brief History

by Smack

The thing to remember about La Fille Mal Gardée is that there is more than one version. The ballet was originally written in the late 18th century by Jean Dauberval, and this version is still performed today; it is the basis of a version by the Basel Ballet that was recorded for German TV in the 1980s, and is currently available on video in Britain. This version has no spanking in it. The spanking has not been cut out: it was never there in the first place. In 1960 Fille was revived for the London Royal Ballet with new choreography by Sir Frederick Ashton, and this is the version which includes the spanking scene. It is part of the standard repertory of the Royal Ballet and has been produced in various other countries, including Denmark and Canada, but other versions are still around too. There are two different recordings available on DVD in Britain (the 1981 performance with Lesley Collier and the 2000 Australian Ballet one with Fiona Tonkin) but, if in doubt, the key thing is to ensure that you're buying the version with the Ashton choreography.

The basic story of the ballet is familiar enough. Lise (the naughty daughter of the title) and her mother have different ideas about her love-life: Lise wants to marry an attractive young man, but Widow Simone favours a rich, stupid one. Widow Simone throws out Lise's boyfriend and sets her to churning milk, but Lise disobeys and plays with her friends. Widow Simone returns, and Lise's attempts to hide are to no avail: she's caught, and her mother shoos away her friends. The Lesley Collier version is very good at this point, because Widow Simone basically gets hold of her by the skirt, so that Lise's attempts to get free result in a nice display of frilly-knickered bottom. Once the yard is clear, Lise is picked up bodily, carried across the stage horizontal with her legs waving attractively in the air, set on her feet and then turned across her mother's knee. The music builds up, the skirt is raised to reveal her panties. And then...

This is the moment to say that, for what it's worth, there's some evidence that the choreography has changed slightly over the years. It's at this point, with Lise over her mother's knee, that the Widow's preferred suitor and his wealthy father choose to arrive. What seems to change is whether the spanking has actually started by then. When the Widow sees her unexpected visitors, her arm is raised to smack Lise (and her open spanking hand promptly folds down and gives a comical little wave). But has she already struck by the time she is interrupted? In the earliest performances, apparently not: I have read a summary of the plot which says that she is 'about to administer a good spanking', and one eye-witness confirms that no smack landed. Not so in the Collier and Tonkin performances, though: there are two or three slaps for Collier and five for Tonkin before the other characters enter! But glad as I am of that, it's clear from the Tonkin performance in particular that this wasn't the effect that was originally intended. The phrasing of the music as Lise is put across the Widow's knee is building up to a climax: it's basically saying 'This is it, she's about to get the ultimate deterrent!' And then there's an immediate change of key as the visitors arrive, with no score covering the spanking itself: the climax doesn't happen, and Lise is fortuitously saved in the nick of time. The Tonkin performance gets in a relatively extended spanking before the interruption only by mismatching it with music that is (as I read it) building up to the spanking rather than scoring it.

The point of the scene, I think, is more the discomfiture of the Widow than the spanking of Lise as an end in itself. She's out to present Lise as an eligible fiancée for her rich neighbour's son, but she is also typically puritanical about youthful sexuality (which is why she chases Lise's boyfriend away). This is why it's important that Lise's skirt is raised for the spanking: Widow Simone is not just caught out as she's about to do (or actually doing) an undignified maternal duty, she also unwittingly shows off Lise's semi-clothed legs and bottom to male eyes. As the scene is blocked, it's always the back end of Lise that is facing towards the yard entrance when she's over her mother's knee, and the Widow's next action after the wave is to quickly pull down Lise's skirts and cover her up. In other words, it's a scene which wrong-foots the Widow's sense of propriety, and it's certainly not about embarrassing Lise, who is facing the wrong way to be able to see what is going on; Lesley Collier has an engaging 'What's happening now?' puzzled look on her face as she is allowed to get up from her spanking position.

I might add that the skirt is always raised. As well as the two recordings, there are at least two photographs of the spanking scene in existence, both with the skirt up. One of these shows Nerina in the first performance. Lise's exposed panties are actually part of the choreography!

"La Fille". Some Thoughts + There's Pics!!

by Jindabyne

Excellent, Smack, very informative! Such a vast grasp of the picture as always! You are amazing. Wow!
Just a couple of points you may be interested in. The recording I have of "The Australain Ballet" was live from the Victorian Arts Centre on 20th. June, 1989. However, the copy I have was released in 1994. Perhaps it was re-released in 2000 for your enjoyment?
Infact, I originally saw it performed on TV not knowing there was a spanking in it. (Yes, I have a cultured side!) Interviewed performers referred to the fact their performance was celebrating the 150th. anniversary of "La Fille Mal Gardee". (I wonder what that translates to in English?) It is ironical, then, that the Aussie ballet didn't adhere more closely to the original performance of what presumably occurred in 1839. Whatever, I'm jolly glad they opted for the more modern interpretation! Perhaps it was just a good chance to get a spanking into their performance!
In my copy's version, Fiona Tonkin is dragged to her spanking by her skirt. Her expression of resignation to the spanking just prior to being placed over her stage Mother's knee is classic! It could be the carrying under the arm in other performances may explain why a guy in 'drag' was cast as the Mother? (Even I'd consider dressing in drag for that role, & that's really saying something!) Perhaps it would have been a bit much for an older female lead to carry the naughty little imp to her fate so a male was cast? Just spaculating.
It is interesting later when Lise is contemplating her future as a Mother herself that she simulates her thoughts by pretending to spank an imaginary child. That may explain why the spanking was added to this ballet, that going from being the spanked to the spankee signifies the transition from being a girl to womanhood that this ballet portrays. Just some of my thoughts.
More to the point, sure would love to see any of those pics you mentioned, Smack! Then I could die a happy man, (just not too soon!) Great to know they are / were around! The fact such prima donnas, bless them, would pose in such a way was really great!,
Keep It coming,
Jindabyne.

Regarding "La Fille..."

by

Hi Jinders... You asked what "La Fille Mal Gardee" means in English. Literally, it means the poorly-guarded daughter; however, differences in language syntax being what they are, we know that the true meaning is "The Naughty Daughter."

As a side note: Back in the 1960s, in L.A. I saw a ballet version of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," presented by the Royal Ballet. The lead roles of Oberon and Titania were played by Robert Helpmann and Moira Shearer, both of "The Red Shoes" fame. Anyway, there are two minor characters in the story, Hermia and Lysander, who are in love with each other but quarrel after a woodland fairy sprinkles them with magic dust.

In the Royal Ballet's interpretation, there comes a point when Hermia gets so bitchy that Lysander picks her up under his arm, and gives her a five-swat spanking.

Of course Shakespeare didn't write it that way. In fact, Shakespeare is famous for NOT giving many stage directions in his plays. Which is why they are played so many different ways. In this case, the Royal Ballet gave us a very enjoyable interpretation, for this viewer at least.

Cheers,
Dan

My dear Chap. I was extremely happy to read your note; Its not desirable to get into controversy when one is very much the new "kid" on the block| You are obviously very well informed on many aspects of our topic and, I am fairly sure, you opinion is accorded some weight by the readers and contributors to this site. Accordingly your endorsing comments are very much appreciated.

Also thank you for drawing to my attention in such a subtle way my error in my Police Series Spanking posting. The script writer was indeed Ted Willis and not Ted Lewis as stated by me. Thank you, I seem to recollect that spankings were referred to in several of his scipts but not actually shown. However there may be one "in the Dark Ages" although I ,assuming it ever happened, did not see it, Two other people claim to have done so.

The program was "Dixon of Dock Green", the spanker was the actor who played Andy Crawford (George Dixon's son~in~law} and the spankee was his young wife (George's daughter} . It was a supposed to be a very light comedy type spanking OTK relating possibly to Christmas presents. The spanking is alledged to have been fairly lengthy and to have occured at or near the end of the episode in the Dixon's parlour in front of George and several guests {invited around for a Christmas drinks?}. I got the impression the matter was treated light heartedly and there may have been some "quips" by the onlookers,

A BBC production Anybody out there of an age who can remember seeing it? Any "inside" information Smack?

Best regards

Sir John

Laurel and Hardy

Stan Laurel played in nearly 200 movies, Oliver Hardy played in over 400.
If you would build up a photo gallery, which stills from which movies
would you take ? That's hard to answer, because there are so many of them...
Maybe you should take a look at the "HUGE" photo gallery the IMDB
offers ? What is the quintessence of their work (in the eyes of the IMDB) ?

Did Steph. McMahon get spanked on WWF? The program before Monday had her arguing with Nature Boy and confronting him. She was coming back Monday but I missed it. Anybody know what happened? WWF is not in the sports program and does not show when it is on. I am new to this. Is WWF the only wrestling and are all the females on just WWF?

See seems to argue with her father and he has some wrestlers and others are on the other side. also the thin females seem to argue with each other but not with the large female wrestlers. any way you can help me understand the story of this.

Hope we do seem to get some action with stephanie. The former spanking queen trish is now the wwf womens champion and that probably unfortunatly will pervent her suffering the indignity of a spanking in my opinion. However hopefully she will seek revenge for some of the spankings she received from jackie, torrie and stephanie. Stacy seems to be taking over as spanking queen from trish. she seems to be the gal getting them now.

Biggest disappointments in movie spanking history

by Tiger

1. In Mclintock the decision to use that darn coal shovel on Maureen O'hara's backside.

2. And the Angels Sing - What could have been a classic triple spanking of 3 forties lovelies (including luscious Dorothy Lamour) was a total wimp-out in the filmed scene.

3. The Thin Man Goes Home - The decision to have William Powell spank beauteous Myrna Loy with a rolled up newspaper whereas the hand would have been infinitely more sensous.

4. Flight to Hong Kong - Rory Calhoun had stunning Dolores Donlon in position and declined to spank.

Re: Biggest disappointments in movie spanking history

by Dallas

Just by their nature, every aborted and off-screen scene is a disappointing heart-breaker.
Franchot Tone chasing Shirley Temple around the room in Honeymoon with the intent of spanking her and being foiled by a judo toss is a hard one to swallow.
More recently, there is a softcore movie called Naked Wishes, which deals with a Genie trying to get her reluctant new master to accept her both as his Genie and lover. The Genie is staying at her master's beach home when the master's girlfriend stumbles onto her. They exchange insults and a catfight ensues, the Genie choosing not to use her magic but to fight her straight up. At one point in the tussle the Genie gets pushed face down on a lawn chair, the girlfriend jumps on her and shoves her through the strands of the folding chair, trapping the Genie in the chair to the point her rear is sticking up in the air. The girlfriend mounts herself on the back of the Genie's legs and raises her arm as if she is about to begin to spank her, but then she loses her balance and falls backwards. She recovers as best she can and begins to flail away with both hands in the direction the the Genie's behind, making little if any contact. It seems the filmmakers had a good idea working here but the scene was flubbed by the actress doing the spanking, and they kept it as the final scene. Pity.

Re: naked wishes

It should still be out there somewhere, I rented it at my local Hollywood Video store about a year ago as a New Release. But remember I am discussing this movie under the concept of 'disappointing spanking scenes,' so I wouldn't suggest putting a lot of effort into finding it.

I don't believe Francine was spanked at that event, the commonly known PPV that she was spanked at in 1997 was Crossing The Line Again.
To my knowledge she was spanked twice by Rick Rude, four times by Jerry Lynn (1 of which is not available on video,) once by Mikey Whipwreck, once by Tommy Dreamer, once by Dawn Marie, and once by Kid Kash. Scott Hall also spanked her but it's nothing much.
I'm always looking to find any hidden ones to add to my collection.

Rick Rude/Francine

One of the spankings you're asking about is included in the video compilation, "Cinema Swats 5." You can find more info on Arild's main website.
