Again: "McLintock"

The two spanking scenes in "McLintock" (1963) are cute and have a somehow subtile but wonderful erotic build-up, especially the Wayne-O'Hara one near the film's conclusion. mclintock in UK

I live in uk and as far as I know, only VHS available here is one that came out c. 8 years ago (same as shown on TV here couple of times) so would be interested to hear if any different video (or DVD comes out here)
For me, wayne/ohara scene is greatest ever (captivated since I saw on TV here when I was a kid!); , ohara at her most beautiful being chased by tough guy Wayne, marched to the venue....spanker and spankee's performance superb, ohara's costume great...full legs flashing, enthralled audience...spanking having desired effect...I could go on and on !
Any enhancements to the scene would be most welcome, although I think many stills shown on web are publicity only and did not appear on original film-can anyone confirm this ?

McLintock stills

I've seen quite a few stills for McLintock on the web, more than any other movie. There are some that look like vidcaps from the actual movie and others that are obviously posed. I think the studio must've wanted some good clear otk shots to use for their posters and newspaper ads that didn't have the motion blur that the frames from the film would've had. In one color still, you can see that Maureen O'Hara isn't wearing exactly the same outfit that she wore in the movie, because her corset has purple trim instead of green.

McLintock stills

I've gone all over the web trying to find good McLintock stills, and some of the sites I forget. This site has quite a few, including the one with the purple-trimmed corset. If you go to the English language films of the 60s, and click on McLintock the first picture that comes up is that one. It was used for the cover of a novel of the movie's story and the novel shows up every now and then for sale on ebay. A bigger version of that picture is used in an ad for a Crimson Moon compilation of spanking scenes from mainstream movies.
I've never heard any stories about how many takes they filmed of the spanking scene before they had the footage they wanted, or how many times they had to pose for still photos.

McLintock stills

Happy New Year! Well, I guess boom is right - the photo with Maureen wearing the purple toned corset from the title of R, Wormser's novel can be found quite often on the web. It is probably a publicity still - there are also many b/w stills that do not occur exactly in the movie, at least in the uk-version I know.
I got a number of stills (partly from web sites, others bought and others taken from the movie) and I started a photo album in "Arild's yahoo group" - maybe there are other fans of "McLintock" who could add some more; I myself will add some more in the next days or weeks.

Tres Balas Perdidas

The Mexican western film, Tres Balas Perdidas, came out at roughly the same time as Mclinctock did in the U.S. (found on Cinema Swats 1) If offered a magnificent triple spanking of three, then prominent, Mexican actresses.

However, I have yet to see any publicity stills from this film in stark contrast to Mclintock which offered many. Granted I am sure the budgets were not of comparable magnitude. Has anyone found any stills or web links?

Yes, the picture you posted is from a Silent Film, it is a still from the 1925 MGM comedy titled "Exchange of Wives". In the scene pictured Lew Cody is sitting on a large garden swing spanking Eleanor Boardman.

"Exchange of Wives" was daring for its time, and not because of the two spanking scenes in the the film, but because it was a "Spouce Swapping" story. The story is about two couples, each married to opposites. In one the wife likes the night life, and is very social, but her husband is just the opposite. In the other, the husband likes the good life, but his the wife a homebody, very domestic. So the friends decide to experiment by swapping wifes or husbands if you prefer.

This 76 year old film is a "gifted film", in that it has two spanking scenes is still intact, safe, sound and bundled away from prying eyes in the Turner Movie Archive It has never been played on TMC nor has it been released in any video form, at least to my knowledge.

According to a describtion of the film written in a late 1970's Janus "Spanking in the Cinema" article, Creighton Hale also treats Renee Adore (the second couple) to a healthy spanking in the film. I've never seen a picture of the Hale/Adoree spanking.

The old adage "Where there is smoke there is fire", may apply to film directors.

"Exchange of Wives" director, Hobart Henly also directed the following films during the same time period with very spanking suggestive titles, "His Private Secretary"(1925), "Abysmal Brute"(1923),"The Flirt"(1922), "Snooty Snobs"(1921) and "June Madness" in 1917.

u.k. magazine sources

Watch out for old copies of `PICTURE POST' beat dates are 1939 - 1940. Dozens of graphic letters from mothers talking about spanking their teenage daughters. You can read copies (and buy photo copies) at Collingdale newspaper library in London and the Bodleian library in Oxford.

Well worth the time and trouble. I live close to one of the addresses used in the letters and it does exist.

Another interesting source, but it does require a certain amount of research, is the old `week-end' magazine. Newspapers to study are: the London Evening Standard and the Daily Mail; both publications come out of the same publishing house and they do love a good smacked bottom story!!!!!

The newspapers concerned are:

1. THE DAILY MAIL

2. WEEK END magazine

Week end magazine carried teenage letters around the late 1960s.

Daily Mail have had quite a lot of letters over the years, but recommend 1986 when news of outlawing C.P.
in state schools was hot.

There is a 3rd publication (Tit Bits) popular in the 1950s; also had letters concerning spanking, but the winner by far is `Picture Post'. The letters went on for about 4 months before the editor finally put a stop to them! pre 1920s there was a magazine called
`Domestic', it also carried letters from parents.

There have also been occassional letters in `Woman's Own', but you would need patience to research the mags.
I used to have dozens of cuttings but unfortunately my wife put them in the bin (She thinks I'm kinky) Really!

I will follow up probably beginning this weekend when I layover in NYC, I didn't have any luck this past weekend finding old American Weekly's at the University Library here where I live.

I sure have a lot of work to do thanks to all the leads I've gotten over the past few days.

So far after almost 32 years of marriage she hasn't destroyed any of my collection. Though I worry about it happening, since I travel a great deal and would hate to loss a lifetime of effort.

The early 1920's saw the appearance of Picture Newspapers, sometimes called Jazz Age Newspapers.The leader of the pack was the New York Daily News which for many years held the world record for circulation.

From roughly 1919 thru 1926 News in the Voice of the People column published many short letters from readers about spanking experiences and opinions.

The two I'm posting today are from the year 1923. One written by a 17 year female spanking recipient and in the second an embarrassed husband who tells the world how a strong arm could help motivate his recalcitrant wife.

Even if some of the letters were prefabricated, mathematically speaking the large circulation of the News guaranteed that many a parent, husband or boyfriend would attempt to motivate a Flapper Girl with the application of a strong arm.

Give me some feedback, tell me if you more of these letters, better yet if you have a few, post them along with mine.

American Weekly

One first-rate source of this stuff is the "American Weekly," which was the Sunday supplement for the Hearst papers in the mid-20th century. They reported and, if possible, illustrated every story with a spanking angle they could get their hands on.

This peaked in the late 1940's in their weekly column "Teenage Tempest," which was a series of letters from teenagers and their parents on particular topics. Spanking, almost exclusively of girls, was a regular feature. The thing was, they used apparently real names and towns. They collected their letters into a pamphlet entitled "To Spank or Not to Spank," which was apparently quite popular, and people regularly wrote letters referring to it.

One of those letters was from a mother in my hometown, writing about how her two teenaged daughters were now spanked on a weekly demerit system, suggested by a letter in the pamphlet. I did a little discreet research in the local library -- I have, of course, always scrupulously respected everyone's privacy -- and found that the people involved did indeed exist. So there may indeed be some truth in these letters.

It will be a while before I can get to a library with an adequate microfilm collection, but if anyone has access now to a Hearst paper from those years, here are the dates: March 23, 1947; May 4 and 11, 1947; July 13, 1947; September 19, 1948; June 12, 1949 (This one was about why girls are spanked more than boys!); and November 6, 1949.

American Weekly Leads

Did you ever spot check the American Weekly for articles from the 1920's?
Two other newspapers I'd like to check out are the Los Angeles Daily News and the older Los Angeles Evening Times before it was upgraded.

American Weekly and others

Yes, js and Will, I do remember the old American Weekly supplement that came with the Sunday L.A. Examiner. Even as a child, I was impressed at how frequently the stories touched on spankings.

I remember distinctly a story in which a young husband spanks his wife, "although she was 15 years his senior." Adding to the titillation was the illustration of the spanking, in which the wife looks trim and lovely in spite of her years.

Will: If you plan to check the L.A. Daily News, be sure they don't get you in the wrong cubicle at the library. There was an old "Daily News" tabloid in L.A. in the 1940s and '50s, and that's probably a good place to look. But they went belly-up years ago. These days, there is a full-size Daily News in L.A., but this newspaper is only about 20 years old and has no connection to the tabloid of years ago.

I responded to mention Geri Halliwell spanked herself about 6 times during a live link up from England on Australian show, "Rove Live". She really enjoyed 'getting into' herself. Hi Tiger... Jill Clayburgh played a spanking scene in "Where Are the Children?" (1985), but it is not a memorable one.

What happens is that she is recalling her life with a former lover (or maybe it was a former husband), and the film flashes back to a time when they were playing kinky sex games. In the scene in question, she is shown across the guy's lap, and we see two (2) swats land.

The actor playing the spanker is never identified, and in fact we don't even see his face. But it is definitely Jill Clayburgh getting the swats, for we can see her face in the same shot where the swats land.

It's all over with, in about three seconds.

I don't know about any full-fledged spankings, but there was an ep where Tony was mad and came in saying something like, "Young lady, this is going to be the worst afternoon of your life." Jeannie zapped him into a (locked) steambath, but his boss came in at that moment so Jeannie had to take a powder. Tony was stuck in the bath until he left, which took most of the fight out of him.

Barbara Eden, incidentally, was spanked by Eric Fleming in an ep of "Rawhide."

Tony mistakenly thinks it is Jeannie posing as a man, and because he is mad at her from earlier, tells her to knock off the scherade and leave or he would put her over his knee and give her a good solid spanking. Mai Zetterling

Yes, Mai Zetterling, who in the 1950s costarred with such actors as Danny Kaye and Tyrone Power, became a movie director in her later career.

One of her films was "Flickorna" (Sweden, 1968) which means, literally, "The Girls." And that movie does contain a terrific over-the-knee M/F spanking scene. I've seen the clip, but unfortunately I cannot identify the spanker and spankee.

I was watching the Facts of Life marathon last week and was wondering if anyone else thought the same thing. Don't you think that Nancy McKeon's character "Jo" could hand out a good spanking?
