Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. I am saved. I am not like members of Christian Science, who believe that flesh is not real, so Jesus Christ has not come in real flesh. They are condemned by that passage, they are antichrists. And in fact when John wrote this, there were already false gospels in the world, which preached that flesh is evil, so Christ did not have flesh, he did not come in the flesh. Such people were antichrists, like John mentioned. Finally when the Catholic church took over the Roman empire and imposed Catholicism on everybody there, the people in those false gospels had to convert to Catholicism or be killed. So these false gospels became generally exterminated. Though that was bad doctrine, God wants us to choose Christianity freely, not because we are threatened by the government and the denomination. Anyway, such false gospels became somewhat popular again in medieval Europe, with the Bogomils, the Cathars, and the Albigenses. But finally the Catholic church exterminated them. They even sent a crusade against the Albigenses, in southern France. The Catholics did not know at that time that God wants us to choose freely.
