DivX to VCD ? possible?

Hi all. I have no probs burning MPEG's to VCD with latest Nero, but DivX movies? a different kettle of fish. For a laugh, I used Nero to 'try' and convert a DivX to VCD, it looks like its working fine, reporting no errors, on playing in my DVD player, I got perfect stereo sound, but no video? It was worth a look just to see what happened. Is it gonna be a pain to do a DivX to VCD (or even SVCD)?

any sensible help would be appreciated

Steve

Not a problem. Virtual dub to save sound as wav.
Tmpegenc to encode to VCD. Video = the divx avi, audio= vdub saved wav

SEB Your a Star Thanks very much

I don't even have Virtual dub, so I didn't have the correct tools, I'll nail a copy now..

So, I assume, now I have 2 files, the Wav and the decoded Tmpegenc VCD video file, that its still possible to burn both using Nero? I purchased the full Licenced MPEG2 Plugin for Nero, so hopefully it will work?

Video tweaking/converting does seem to be a bit of a minefield, doesn't it, so many permutations.

One day we may get a 'single' proggy that does it, using pre-made 'templates' similar the nice Nero ones, when creating VCD/SVCD, just drag and drop the files
...without making too many coasters

Thank again

Steve

Use the wav as audio source in TMPGEnc and the avi as video source. Select the default VCD template in TMPGEnc and encode. You'll get a mpg file from TMPGEnc that include both encoded video and encoded audio. This mpg file can be imorted to NERO VCD and then burn it. You don't need to burn the wav, the audio will be included in the encoded mpg...

However you will get worse quality compared to wathcing the divx directly with TV-out connected to the TV and the divx file size is smaller than VCD file size (mostly) so why convert it???

reason for conversion ;)

I appreciate that DivX is a better format.
The pc is too far from the TV, Svideo cable at that distance would be 'iffy' also difficult.

I have a 2.4GHz video/stereo sender, that I can use, which works, but is also 'messy' as when I change to TV out, I need to see the TV to do the final confirmation click in TV out mode I loose the pc screen. Maybe my next video card ATI 9700 will allow both screens at once? so this may not be a problem.

I still think that a conversion is neater.

Thanks for all the suggestions. all noted.
