Many Sony models don't support SVCD at all. Try looking at the DVD player compatibility list at http://www.vcdhelp.com and see what it says. It could be worse. I had a conversation once with a guy who told me that a major Japanese manufacturer (I think it was Toshiba) sold a DVD player in the US that didn't even play VCD! I don't mean it didn't play homemade VCD, I mean it didn't play commercial VCD either.

I highly recommend Pioneer, pretty much any model. They will play VCD, SVCD, DVD-R as well. Also it load up fast too.

You can use Mpeg 2 files but change the header to a VCD header and then your player should play them,OR you can encode VCD but use Mpeg2 and put VCD header on the file and this works also......

See svcd on sony dvd players

Hi,

I agree Luis answer. Encode an mpeg2 file like if you want to create a svcd and then use the file to create a vcd.

One thing that could also help, try to use a CD-RW instead of CD-R cause some sony units have problems with some CD-R brand, but will usually play well a CD-RW.

Complete explanation on how to create this "franken" vcd could be found in this forum in one thread i wrote before. I have test it on an old 2 years old sony unit that could not play svcd at all and get svcd quality on it with success by using this method...

Good luck!
