Some of my programs does not see the MS DV codec so it can not render the requeired avi format (like Aura 2.0)and some of the program cant even play the captured dv (avi) files (get message "codec not found"). On the other hand no problem for MS Media Player and Premiere. The codec does not appear in the list of video docdec under "System/multimedia" in Control panel.
OS is Windows XP.
Any clue?

MS DV or MC DV or any other.

Bob a lot of programs do have trouble seeing the MS DV "codec" (its not a codec but it simplifies the discussion) and I for one have run the MC DV fix for Premiere for nearly a couple of years so that I could actually render out in it. However, I think the quality between MC & MS is not as noticable as it once was and that is not a requirement anymore.

The advantage of having MC on my system is that MC will work as a Video for Windows codec and therefore a lot of oldish programs will see it where they do not see the MS one. I have several old programs or shall we say old versions that do only work in DV because MC is a multipurpose little device.

A warning perhaps, some of my friends with XP have had a lot of trouble with MC and were forced to take it off so under those circumstances you actually loose a great deal and oldish programs may never see the other "codecs."

Ms codec

Thanks Ross,
I have this problem even with a very new program: CCE 2.64.1.10 (DEMO), as a stndalone, cannot convert captured DV files but, strange enough, can do it as a premiere plugin.
I sometime get the message (when I try to load the DV file): "cannot find 'vids:dsvd' decompressor".
Regards,Bob.

Re: DV codec is not seen

I have Win XP (Home) and while I can't remember exactly what type of video file I was trying to play, I got the "missing codec" error. Installing the (free) Canopus playback codec fixed it.

You can find it near the bottom of this link:
