Well Shenley, I´ve seen you mention in several topics that Ulead Video Studio has a good MPEG encoder. Which version of Video Studio are you talking about as I can´t see that Video Studio includes an encoder that I can load my MPEG files into and encode to SVCD.
Are you sure you´re not talking about Ulead DVD Moviefactory og Workshop?
I have the product in the message title, and it does have an encoder. It gives decent quality depending on what you're trying to do with it. its primary use is to allow you to take parts of your movie and add transitions, titles, credits and pictures.
It will take the end result and try to smart render, that is, only reencode those parts that don't comply with the template you've chosen. Its not always successful at that, but in any case I don't consider it the right product to reencode a lengthy production.
Just tested UVS6 and a 200 Mb divx avi 352*288 to 20 Mb VCD. It looks quite near as good as with CCE. Does it have built in MPEGG! now encoder ?
Encoded/resized to 40 Mb SVCD too ~ in RT but looks like VHS.
Yeah I know, crap in > crap out. And resizing is the last mistake You should do while encoding.
I started off ripping DVD's to AVI's to watch throught my TV out, eventually I started to download AVi on Mirc and Kazaa.
Friend started to ask me if I could make disk that would play on thir DVD Standalones.
I always used Virtual Dub to sort the audio then Tmpeg to encode to VCD/SVCD and chop, then either VCDeasy ot TSCV to author.
I came across a DivX Avi that had an error which Virtual dub could not fix and Tmpeg could for the same reason not encode. So I had a look at video studio. I quickly learned that the DVD writer pluggin is actually just the Moviefactory program, so used Vid Studio to encode using the create video file button (basically so I could adjust the bitrate) instead of the create VCD/SVCD button. I then opened the MPG in Moviefactory to author it. Video studio did the job very quickly and did not have any trouble with the errored AVI.
The only problem I then had was that the chapters that Moviefactory create are not real chapters, they are really scenes, when you select a chapter it plays the chapter and then returns to the menu, useless if you want to want to watch the second half of a film only.
Now I use DVD workshop its pretty much the same but it creates real chapters and you can also do motion menus.
I suggest getting the latest version form the Ulead wesite, try it it is pretty good IMHO.
I also have a Canon DV camera I use these products for making miniDVD from stuff I film myself and the results are also pretty good.
Try the trial versions avaialble on thier site, i use all three. Workshop is by far the best of course but I have opened divx avi's, DV avi's and MPG's which I have encoded with good results, particularly SVCD, I also find it quicker than Tmpeg. I did read on this forum they they have teamed up with Morgan, i think it was Morgan anyway, I already have the Morgan codec and encoder stuff on my machine so perhaps that is why I get good results.
All I do in Vid Studio is drag the AVI out of the libary onto the storyboard then select the custom from the create video file menu from thier you can use the options button to adjust the bitrate. I pretty much do the same thing in Workshop.
