Thats what the Panasonic DVD=R/RAM web site says.

Here is the link:

http://www.panasonic.com/industrial/computer/storage/dvdram/support/support.htm

The relavent text now follows.

"To Enjoy Your DVD-RAM for a Longer Time

- Cleaning the drive lens, DVD-RAM disks and PD cartridges
To enjoy your DVD-RAM for a longer time, clean the lens and your DVD-RAM disks and PD cartridges. The reasons for cleaning the drive and media are explained in "How Data is Read/Written". It is recommended to clean the lens and media about once every 1 to 4 months, using a purpose-specific cleaning kit. Note that with built-in drives, the amount of dust and dirt infiltrating the unit can be particular high depending on the capacity and location of the computer's cooling fan.

1. Lens cleaning
- Drive cleaning kit
Name: PD Lens Cleaner
Model: LF-K123LCA

2. Disk cleaning
- Disk cleaning kit
Name: DVD-RAM/PD Disk Cleaner
Model: LF-K200DCA

- Both of the above cleaners can be purchased at stores which sell the drive.

Note:
Using cleaners not designed for optical lens and disks can scratch the lens and disks, making it impossible to read data.

Nope...

Not even after spending $20 on name brand x2 DVD-Rs and $12 on a DVD cleaner (eyelashes type) and $5 on a can of compressed air. Still I guess it doesn't hurt to clean it once in a while - the players too! Now I'm burning the title set from Nero!

And the trials go on and on, like rolling a rock up a certain mountain in Hell...

Of course they rec the panasonic cleaner - I bought maxel and was surprised to see the eylashed were not perpedicular with the edge ( as you would expect) but we parallel!?!? so it would only clean when read precisely the right spot - which I'm sure it does.

Could not reach the lense on any drive OR player to clean, not even with a compressed are can straw. Just gotta trust teh eyelashed I guess.

My bugs totally unchanged - going to try demuxing before spruce up now next.
