VCD's for my DVP-NS300

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction for a how-to on creating home-brew SVCD's that will play on my Sony DVP-NS300. I have DVD Workshop. I'm interested in the basics:
- What files need to be on the CD
- Whether they can be in folders
- Whether R/W disks are acceptable

I'm not familiar off hand with your player, but be warned that some older Sony models don't support SVCD and the only way to make it work is to author the SVCD as a VCD. A guide was recently posted here on doing that. Other older Sony models do support SVCD, but they don't support CD-R media very well. Unless you have a new model that specifically says it supports the format, I suggest burning to CD-RW as that offers you the best chance of success with a Sony DVD player. Follow the SVCD instructions at a place like http://www.vcdhelp.com. Eric's suggestion to look at the DVD compatibility list is a good one too.

I've got NS700V snd play SVCD OK.

If you have files in MPEG2 format suggest you buy Nero off the internet.

If you have to convert AVI to MPEG2 suggest you also buy TMPGenc.

I spent lots of money on all sorts of crap until I got to this combination.

CDRW disks work OK.

I also got Phillips Silverspeed CDR disks from PC world.

Actually I would suggest getting CCE for encodeing Cuz it is Fast and Good and use what you have for authoring, Ulead DVD Workshop..You don"t wory what files have to be on the cd or anything like that..SVCD"s have to be burned a certain way But it is the Burning program that does all the work in formating the files on the Disk..."Ulead DVD Workshop" Burns the disks for you..You can also use nero if you want But if you want Chapters and Menu"s and Titles then you Cant use Nero for that Cuz it is Strictly a Burning program..There is a lot to understanding everything on how to make VCD/SVCD"s, you might even Wreck a Few CD-R"s before you get your first good one..And CD-RW"s are OK as long as your Player supports CD-RW...go to "http://www.vcdhelp.com/" and read up on how to do it ..there are lots of tutorials there ..
