Hi guys!

Is there a SVCD recording software around, that can directly capture video streams and that does not need any additional steps... and where the captured file can directly be put on Cd with i.e. Nero...

I know of MMC 7.7 - but that seems not to work on my machine...

Thanks!

Well you can use "Ulead dvd workshop" which you can capture directly to Mpeg2 for SVCD and author and burn all in the same program..Or Ulead Video Studio 6 does the same but it has much better capture Quality...

I tried both - you're right Video Studio 6 is much better quality + when I captured the video somehow I can decide later on how I want to put the file on cd - either VCD, or SVCD...

... but still when I captured with SVCD directly - the picture has got many art effects? Do I do anything wrong here?

Thanks!

Capture

What are you capturing from?
External analogue inputs?
TV card?

Knowing this is helpful.
Software capture to mpeg2 is very much dependant on your system.
Rich sems to get very good results with ATI cards while I was never happy with any of the ATI captures (apart from plain avi, but their were also done with Virtualdub)
Also you could try software from Intervideo

On hardware site for analogue inputs you could use DV bridge (Dazzle, Canopus) or hardware MPEG Encoder like Dazzle DVC II (I am happy with its results)

Capture

Hi!

I'm capturing mostly analog - directly from TV or VCR
Capturing card ATI AIW 128 Pro 4 AGP

I would like to capture SVCD directly - but I have heard that the Dazzle II card is ok with SVCD but very bad with VCD...

I've tried out Ulead Video Studio 6 - but I find the SVCD recording very arteffective, almost like I was doing a VCD...

What's the best software for captureing analog SVCD?
My computer: AMD 800

Thanks!

I don"t think you should be worrying about a Capture card With a Slow system like yours Cuz No matter what type of analog capture card you get you still WONT be able to capture good Quality SVCD without Dropping frames...I have a 1.87ghz CPU and I still drop frames with some Software when trying to Capture to SVCD..Trust Me No matter how good your capture card is it won"t be able to capture good quality svcd on such a slow system...get with the times...

why do you worry how the DVCII capture to vcd if you plan on capturing SVCD ?? For the record - it does not capture awfull vcd - it captures vcd in the same quality as anything else - hard or soft - but VCD simply isnt good quality - its not the DVCII theres anything wrong with - its the format itself.

The simple answer to all of your questions is this:
There are NO software that will capture in good SVCD quality in realtime - period. Realtimecapturing is very demanding - much to demanding for any softwaresollution to be really good. You will need a hardwareencoder like the DVCII to do this.

PS: ATI guys pls dont flame me - I also have an ATI card - in all respect, for softcapturing its the best you can get - but still it does not beat the DVCII hardwaresollution for SVCD or DVD - peace
