Of cource there is ,even Much Faster..I have a Intel 1.7ghz and with CCE I encode DVD Rips at 1.2 times real time , so about 36 Frames a Second, and this is while frame serveing which slows the encoder down Quite a bit, But when encodeing say "Uncompressed AVI" It gets MUCH faster Over 150 FPS so over 5 times real time...And there is software that will allow you to Capture from a Digital Or analog source in Real time also...You get MUCH better Quality encodeing with Software encoders than you do with Hardware encoders, well Unless you have 30 grand to spend on a Hardware encoder....
Your avi has to be Uncompressed, meaning that it can"t be made with a Codec..The problem with Uncompressed AVI is that it is about 1gb per minute of Video so for a Whole movie you need at least a 100gb hard drive to Capture the avi file..and yes the CCE audio encode isn"t the greatest..I use "Headac3he" to encode the audio to Mp2 audio...
