MPEG -2 to MPEG 1 conversion

OK, well i've been trying this all day with no luck.. maybe someone here can help me?

First off, my dvd player (Panasonic RP56) Doesn't read SVCD's well, its a little choppy.. VCDs are fine though.. so here's the problem.. I want to convert my SVCD (MPEG-2) to VCD (MPEG-1), but I can't seem to do it. It says with CD mage you can simply extract the movie (mpeg) from the bin/cue (what i have) but that doesnt seem to work. I try to multiplex it to mpeg1 in TMPGEnc but it gives me a buffer underflow error (whatever that is) so that wont work. If i try to do anything with it in VCDEasy it says its just a dat renamed to mpg so i need to convert it.. If i do this, i still have no luck with converting to mpeg1. What am i supposed to do with the cue/bin to extract the movie? Is there a conversion program or what? because this whole taking the large file from the mpeg folder of the bin file isnt working. If you need me to supply any info to help solve this problem i'll be checking back here very often, I've just about given up!!!

You can convert the MPEG-2 file to MPEG-1 using something like TMPGenc. I think http://www.vcdhelp.com has guides on doing this. Expect quality to suffer quite a bit on doing a MPEG-2 to MPEG-1 conversion. Your real problem may be that your player doesn't like your media. Trying CD-RW discs or another brand of CD-R might help. It's impossible to say what brand of CD-R might work better as all players seem to be a little different and what works well in one model doesn't work so well in another.

If your Player doesn"t play SVCD"s very well Cuz they are choppy then Trying to fool your DVD Player into thinking the SVCD file is a VCD file by Changeing the header with the Multiplexor isn"t going to work...But if you were going to try it that way Useing the Multiplexor isn"t the right way Cuz you will allways get Buffer underflow errors ,Whet you need to do is load the Mpeg2 file into the "Merge & Cut" and just run it through with the "Vide-CD Non-Standard" setting, this way you will not get a Error...But this won"t make the Mpeg2 file a Mpeg1 file..The best way to do that is to first De-Mux the SVCD/Mpeg2 file then Load the Video into DVD2AVI and make a D2V file then encode the D2V file with Tmpgenc to a Mpeg video file then Multiplex the Audio you demuxed from the SVCD with the newly encoded Mpeg1/VCD file and Burn it as a VCD...This is Quicker than Useing the Mpeg2 decoder in tmpgenc...
