Iam about to go and purchase Pinnacle V8...to capture, edit, produce full resolution (720X480) DVD video. I am useing MGI Video Wave 5...but have serious audio sync problems. Can anyone tell me if Pinnacle V8 is a good program by the time I get back home and open the package?

Also being very new at this...could you please detail some steps on how to (backup) my factory DVD's? I have smartripper...but it just makes vob files...what do I do with them to make a DVD?

Jer

I wouldn"t Get Studio 8 if I were you, especially If you are Captureing From an analog source..Studio 8 uses Pinnacle Propietry Codecs which are OK For Quality But they aren"t Compatible with Many Third Party Mpeg encoders and the Mpeg encoder that Comes in Studio 8 Sucks really Bad..But besides this the Editing Functions are Not bad accept the Scene Detection Takes Forever Like an Hour for 2 hour movie. And Pinnacle Studio 8 doesn"t Seem to Compentate for Dropped Frames very well So you might still have those Sync issues..Hell if you want My Copy you can Have it...I would sugest something like "Adobe Premier" which is a Good with Digital and analog Captures and unlike Studio 8 you Get to use Any codec you have installed on your system and you aren"t stuck with Crappy Propietry codecs, it has Powerfull Editing Function and effects and Has a Number of High Quality Mpeg Plugins available ..It is a Far better Product than Studio 8 even though Premier Costs a Bit more it is Worth it for the Functionallity...I have Many Many Different Video editing Programs and premier is One of the More Functional..One Good Digital Video Capture and Editing Program that Pinnacle Makes is called "Pinnacle Edition DV" or "DV500" Which is Analog Compatible But you need at least a Pentium 4 or Preferably a Dual P-4, Cuz it is One of the Most Complex editing Programs I have ever used..Any Just some advice From an Owner of Studio 8 and Many othe Editing programs.....

Making DVD-VCD-S-VCD

January 12 2003, 1:50 AM

HI

I have working with Videos for ca 15 years. What I have learned on quality and digital transfering through this years is:

Now I only captures and edit with Ulead Media Studio 6.5 This program is stabile,no crash and handle all codecs you want.I only capture digital/analog as AVI DV codec1 and edit this files with sound etc.Making a AVI file to hardisk. Then I get TEMPgenc to codec the file to what I want DVD VCD S-VCD etc. This program seems for me giving very high quality on all codecs.
All programs as Pinnacle studio8,MyDVD,etc make a very poor quality on VCD/S-VCD codecs. At end I burning only with Nero 5.5.8.2

Have tryed the most of editing programs and the second I have tryed, is Adobe premiere, all of them, but it work very unstabile on my computers
Sincerely Per Norway

I'd recommend Premiere6.5 over any of the Ulead Products - it works flawlessly for me at least. VegasVideo3 would be another to consider.

Once you have the vobs from your DVD, you have to fiddle with them and the accompanying ifo and bup files to get around the problem that most commercial DVDs are larger than a single home-burnable disk ('cos commercial ones are double-layer and hold 9GB)....you either have to split to two disks or recompress the mpeg streams.

If you're using smartripper, ifoedit is probably the thing to try. Read more at http:/www.doom9.net which has guides to this and more.
