Alright, I'll cut to the chase. First thanks to luisifer for all of his help in an earlier post.
So I got TMPGEnc 2.59 and I took my source movie file: movie.avi Details:(287mb DIVX encoded audio and video...Audio data rate 20.00 Kb/sec, sample rate 48.00 kHz, stereo...Video (Stream name: Videostream, Frame width: 640, Frame height: 352, Play length: 2412.44 secs, Frame count 60311, Frame rate: 25fps, Data rate 116.215 kb/sec, Video sample size: 24 bit, Video compression DivX codec
I opened it in TMPGEnc with the wizard and choose Super Video-CD/NTSC, next I browse to open the file and FIRST NOTICE THAT THERE'S NO AUDIO FILE TO OPEN, WELL THE AUDIO AND VIDEO ARE BOTH IN THE AVI FILE, RIGHT? So I just assumed that it will encode both the audio and video into the resultant MPEG-2 file. I leave the expert settings default values. Except, I have a question about the Content of video. What should I choose, Video movie (default), Film Movie, or Video/Film Mixed? I then click next and skip all filter settings (I'm way too new to this an I'll probably just screw things up, unless anyone knows a good filter to use). And the last step before the encoding to MPEG-2 takes place... Automatically is says the movie info resolution will be 480X480X 29.97 fps / 44100 Hz Stereo (does this mean it will have sound in the output?) / 40 min 13 sec. 480 X 480? What happened to the original size of the avi 640 X 352? I then select Auto Setting for a 700mb CDR (which maxes out the CDR, noticed the bitrate went up...will this make the movie better?) and voila after about 3 hours the resultant MPEG-2 encoded file movie.mpg is 820mb and has these characteristics: Super Video-CD NTSC (MPEG-2 480x480 29.97fps CBR 2519kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)
Now, I'm going to use VCDEasy to create my first SVCD from this new source file....BUT I DON'T FEEL VERY CONFIDENT ABOUT THE QUALITY OR SOUND...I went ahead and previewed the mpg file using Windows Media Player and noted two things, first the resolution changed dugh! And, the quality of the movie is a little less than the original avi file. BUT THE MOST DISPOINTING THING IS THAT THERE'S NO SOUND! Is this normal? Will the sound come back when I create the SVCD? I just don't want to make too many CDR coasters.
Remember my source file is a DivX encoded avi file which I use Windows Media player to watch on my computer and it's great quality (sound and video). Any help on this would be great!
Now, after I figure this process out, I'll need to know how to encode XVid avi files to mpeg-2 files for SVCDs.
There are Many Many Problems Here..First off the File you are encodeing is a PAL file Cuz it has a frame rate of 25FPS, you CAN NOT encode this file as a NTSC File with Tmpgenc Cuz Tmpgenc does Not do Proper Conversions from 25FPS to 23.9/24fps or 29.9/30FPS, you Might notice that there are Little Jumps in the File you encoded That is Because of the Frame rate Differance and Tmpgenc"s inability to convert it to NTSC Properly..So basicly you CAN"t encode this file to NTSC SVCD Unless you convert the Frame rate to a NTSC Standard But this will make the audio Go way out of sync..As for Not haveing Audio this Is Besause the audio format in the DivX/AVI file is Not supported in Tmpgenc, you would have to Extract the audio from the AVI File to WAV format and use that as the audio source..And for the Resolution Changeing, Well of cource it is Going to Change Cuz the standatd NTSC Resolution for SVCD is 480+480 and for VCD it is 352+240 and for DVD it is 720+480, it will not Play with the same resolution as the source file...So Basicly if you want to make a NTSC SVCD out of this file there is a Lot of work ahead and it isn"t the kind of stuff that the unexperienced can easily do, You chose the wrong movie to make a SVCD out of...If your DVD Player Can Play Pal Movies then you can allways Encode it as a Pal SVCD But there is No gaurantee that it will play on your DVD Player ,It most Likely Will Not....If you really have your Heart set on Makeing a SVCD out of this File then you can e-mail be and I"ll try to help out But I would sugest that it is a Lot more trouble than it is worth and to go on to something else, and next time download NTSC Movies if you want to make SVCD"s out of them..Actually Downloaded Movies Cause a Lot of problems Cuz of wierd Frame rates and resolutions and Audio formats and they Have a really bad habbit of being Corrupted, you should get a DVD-Rom and Rip DVD"s or get a Capture card Cuz Downloaded movies are Just trouble......
