This forum is great, but yet, I havent found answers on MY questions, I would be greatful for any help!
---------
I use an DV camera and Pinnacle Studio 7 to make my own stuff, works great, and I output the avi file in full qualtiy from Studio, 720x576, 25fps.

Then I use TMPGEnc 2.59 to Encode to SVCD.
I choose SVCD - Pal and CBR. But I dont understand why it wants to create the MPEG-2 file in 480x576 ratio.
That makes it higher than it is wide..! Anyway, I "ignore" it and continue, CBR Standard is chosen. Further, I have tried both interlace and not, on source settings. I thought the sourch avi was not, but it sets the option to interlace as default. I dont know much about this setting.
Further, I select defult values, but puts it on highest quality, and with a bitrate on 2520.

The output MPEG-2 file gets the ratio: 768x576, so it seems like it gets the perfect 4:3 ratio after all. Anyway, it looks very nice! Perfect when played in mediaplayer, so I started to burn it.
Easy CD creator said it was not compliant at all, and it just didnt add it to CD-layout when I told it to do so.
I then started Nero Burning ROM, it said the same thing about my MPEG-2 file, but it ignored when told so.

I tried the CD on my standard DVD player. Nothing, it recognized it as VCD, but wouldnt start it.

I tried it on my PC with my software DVD player, and it "worked" but had an terrible aspect ratio, much higher than wide, and there was blips and beeps in the sound all the time. The picture was full of squares and thick lines with other parts of the movie, few moments before or after it should really appeared, and in sick colors!
Have anyone got any ideas on what I do wrong? Or maybe I should use other applications? Isn't there a straigh forward and easy way to do it, if you dont have too complicated source files.

I would be very thankful if someone could tell me what the h... I'm doing wrong, I tell me to do it THAT f..... way instead!!

SVCD PAL is 480x576 and NTSC is 480x480.
PowerDVD is best to play interlaced or de-interlaced files. Played with M$ Mediaplayer doesn't always look allright

Pal is Interlaced so it has to be set as Interlaced..EZ CD Creator Will in most cases Not accept files encoded by Tmpgenc as Compliant files..In tmpgenc in the "System" tab it has to be set to "SVCD" not "Mpeg2" I would sudgest useing something like "Ulead DVD Workshop" to author your SVCD Cuz it accepts Mpeg2 files as SVCD files, and it is easy to use and it does Menu"s and Chapters and Much more...And 480+576 is the standard Resolution for Pal SVCD..Media Player is the Worst Player for Watching Mpeg files with Cuz it never Plays files with the correct aspect ratios and it does not Deinterlace ..I personally Get Much better results useing VBR encodeing for SVCD"s, this way you can get Much better quality and to get More On a CD-R..I Think I have Just about covered everything ...You can download a Fully Functioning 30 day demo version of "Ulead DVD Workshop 1.2" at the ulead Web site and if you want you can e-mail me and I"ll send to patch to make it a full version and the patch lets you Upgrade to the 1.3 version....Good Luck...

There are some really good guides at http://www.vcdhelp.com which might help you. As many people said, 480x576 is the correct resolution for PAL SVCD. I do not personally recommend that people use EZ CD Creator. It seems to cause a lot more problems than it solves, in my opinion.
