Other good editing program

I'm looking for another good editing program, besides Adobe Premiere 6.5 that I'm using now. I'm getting artifacts around motion when capturing DV from my Sony cam and have read to try Main Concepts DV codec to reduce it. The artifacts are present even in the AVI files when played on my computer, even before encoding. But the "jump-thru-the-hoops" approach to force Adobe to use MC's codec is very confusing to me. I've tried downloading the trial version of MC DV codec but can't seem to get it to run when capturing w/Adobe. I'm about to pull my hair out (what's left of it, that is).
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ronbo

Well there are Lost of good DV capture and editing programs , a Good one besides Premier is "Pinnacle Edition DV 4.5" it has to be one of the Most intence DV editors I have ever Tried, and there is "Avid DV" which is another great editing and DV Capture program..Then there is "Vegas Video 3" or "Video Factory 2" which are both great Programs, if you want the latest Build of "Vegas Video 3"(about $500) e-mail me and I"ll try to hook you up..one of the Better DV Codecs is the "Canopus DV codec" I"m not sure But I think I might have the full version of that also..So if you want Vegas Video let me know....

If the artifacts that are bugging you are in the avis "captured" directly from the DV camcorder then the codec on your computer isn't going to help you get rid of them..... because no further compression is going on between the camera and the computer - it has already all happened onboard the camera and thereafter its just a digital transfer.

(The codec will affect newly rendered footage such as effects and transitions.)

Your best bet is probably to try and filter/smooth the artifacts while frameserving the avi into your mpg encoder.

Have a look at Vegas 4

February 15 2003, 6:06 PM

Hello,

I am currently using Vegas Video 3 and love it, but I plan to upgrade to Vegas 4 in the next few weeks, before Sonic Foundry's special upgrade offer expires on March 15.

Vegas comes with the Main Concept MPEG2 encoder, which is one of the best. Some people like to apply a touch of Gaussian Blur before doing an MPEG2 encode, in order to further minimize artifacts. There is a 5-page review of Vegas Video 3 at:
